Good wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving.
At the top of my thanks list is a prayer for continued health and safety of President Trump, and a permanent end to the permanent warfare political class.

This is a good time to tell you all. Hubby was scheduled for his first knee replacement January 5. Last week on Monday night he got a call from his surgeon in Houston. They had a cancellation for Wednesday (one week ago) and can he come in the next day (Tuesday) for the pre-op.
So we had to pack suitcases in a rush, make a hotel reservation and get on the road at 6 am Tuesday, do the pre-op, run around town getting prescriptions and buying a walker, then show up at the hospital at 5:30 Wednesday morning for the surgery. It went very well, we spent one miserable night in the hospital and drove home Thursday.
Today and yesterday he had his first physical therapy sessions. I’ve been full time caretaker, cook, ice pack bringer, nagger about his meds etc.
He is recovering very quickly, ahead of schedule. Already ditched the walker and only rarely even uses the cane. Friday and Saturday were worst and now it’s on the upswing.
This is an opportunity for me to be extremely grateful for many things:
1. The American medical system. Despite its flaws, it is the best in the world. The “for profit” hospital was excellent because they knew we had a choice. Capitalism and competition.
2. The surgeon. Top notch.
3. Our marriage. Trying to do something like this without a dedicated spouse must be a nightmare. He was there for my hip, now I’m there for his knees.
4. All the surgeons, engineers, scientists, researchers and specialists that developed the hardware for joint replacements.
5. Western civilization. With reliable electricity, infrastructure to carry out what they do in an operating room and all the materials and labor that go into maintaining our way of life. We are the pinnacle of civilization here in the U.S. and I’ve never been more grateful to be American.

Rush,
I can't love this too much. No doubt taking care of each is the most important part. I'm glad my wife had some help from my oldest son for a few days. It was hard on her having to do so much. Drove me to work harder to take over the things I normally do.
I am so glad he was able to get in so soon. Everything you said is true and the technique and hardware just keep getting better and better. Being up like he is is a testament to all of it.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving!!

LOVE your positive take on this whole thing.
Prayers for you and him.

Happy Thanksgiving, you turkeys!

What’s everybody eating? We have no family here so it's just the two of us and I’m not fooling with a turkey dinner. So I got two filet mignon and a carrot dish kit. (Carrots baked with sage and some sort of seasoning from Sunbasket meal kit service).
That’s it. No starch, no bread, we eat low carb, and hubby was sternly told in all the post-op instructions to load up on protein. Apparently the body needs protein to properly heal a knee.
And yesterday I received a surprise delivery of John Kelly Chocolate that hubby ordered to thank me for all the work I’m doing to care for him.

We host every year. Maybe 15 this year. Turkey, ham and all the sides. My wife is in her "stay the hell out of my way" cleaning mode so I'm just sitting quietly drinking my boozed up coffee.

A very happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Thank you, Rush, for who you are. That was a great post.
No turkey this time. We have a lot of it throughout the year. Got a spiral sliced ham from Texas and we'll have that with whole berry cranberry (in its proper can shape), rolls, dill and sweet pickles, green and black olives, and pumpkin pie with LOTS of Cool Whip. And then we'll break out the Christmas trivia game.
And a reminder to everyone... Hitler was a vegetarian.

Good news Rush! Tell hubby fast recovery from me! Keep positive!

I think 14 was the most I hosted and cooked the big turkey dinner for. Our daughter told us she misses those huge family gatherings.

Only two of us here too but fortunately our kids live nearby so we’re just showing up at daughter’s house. Think they’re frying and baking turkeys and of course trimmings and desserts.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Rush for your husband. He has a great caretaker in you!
