My bride and I have never done it.
My parents and her parents never did it, but it seems like lots of people do.

Back in the day, people would camp out overnight in order to be first in line whenever the doors open

Why in hell would anyone fight crowds to buy things on sale? The very idea of shopping when everyone else is gives me panic attacks. I hate people.

I go in, do the most efficient route through the isles to get what's on the list, and go to the self check so I don't have to talk to anyone. My wife likes to shop: explore every isle, see what's on sale, chat with people, interact with the sales person. She knows to plant me in a chair somewhere so she can shop in peace.

Same. She knows I get what's needed and leave. She knows better to text me 20 minutes after I left because I'm already checking out or driving away, yet she does it anyway.
