Title: Phrases/Sayings that tell something about a person
Post by: pilot_dude on May 17, 2016, 07:48:21 AM
What are some phrases that you use which either date you (age wise) or indicate a geographical location?

I'll start with a few I use almost daily:

1) "use it like a rented mule" to refer to how most mules were rode hard and put up wet back before row crops were plowed by machines

2) "have a big weekend" to wish someone a good weekend

3) "cash on the barrel head" to mean cash is only accepted form of payment

I grew up in the Midwest raised by a father from Oklahoma and a mother from Chicago and now live in the mid-south.  A lot of sayings bounce around in my gray (or grey) matter as I rapidly approach the start to my 5th decade.

There are a bunch of things that I can tag someone from Saskatchewan in an instant.  My wife (from Quebec) doesn't understand me sometimes when I'm talking to folks from back home.

Examples would be appreciated.

OK

If someone refers to their "flip-flops" as "thongs", or a hoodie is referred to as a "bunny hug", or a road is referred to as a "grid", and -40 is referred to as "a bit brisk", you might be talking to a Saskatchewanian.
