Title: Interesting History lesson

It t was summer, and a major U.S. political party had just chosen an inexperienced, unqualified, loutish, wealthy outsider with ambiguous party loyalties to be its presidential nominee. Some party luminaries thought he would help them win the general election. But many of the faithful were furious and mystified: How could their party compromise its ideals to such a degree?

Definitely some similarities to today, but still many differences. However the selection of Trump may well be the end of the GOP just like the Whigs. It will be interesting to see if there will be a rise of a third party in this election cycle, or over the next four years.

Agreed. My concern is what arises out of the ashes?  A conservative, Constitutionalist party, or a bombastic entertainer party?  It can be called The Orange Party.

How come no one is bemoaning the fact that the opposition party is running a soon-to-be felon, who spent her entire life failing at every political job she managed to get?

I mentioned nothing about current political situations, simply a historical discussion of Pres Taylor.

You guys really crack me up.  Keep in mind that Petraeus willfully and knowingly divulged classified information to his lover.  They did nothing to him at all.  Now they're going to throw Hillary in jail for using the wrong E-mail.  Oh well, at least it isn't birth certificate or flag pins.

Because that is their party's problem, not mine.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A federal judge on Thursday sentenced David H. Petraeus, a former C.I.A. director and the highest-profile general from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to two years’ probation for providing classified information to a woman with whom he was having an affair.

Mr. Petraeus was also fined $100,000, more than double the amount the Justice Department had requested.

Petraeus knowingly passed on classified information and saw no jail time and was given a small (by their standards) fine.  Now you're telling me their going to do worse to Hillary despite the fact that there is no evidence at all that she knowingly passed anything to anyone.

Hey, I get it.  She's arrogant as all get out and feels she's above the consequences.  I don't like her one bit.  But that doesn't mean I'm going to imagine felonies against her.

Petraeus's government career was ruined.  That is all I ask for Hillary.  Jail would be desesrt.

Agreed. Hillary was criminally negligent (IMO) with our national secrets so that she could keep her own secrets.

All in the interest of avoiding FOIA access to insulate her for her run for POTUS. IMO.

The State Department just said that 75 YEARS!!! was "not an outlandish estimation" to take to respond to an RNC FOIA request for emails for Clinton's 3 former aids because it says the RNC's FOIA request was "very complex."

I shit you not. Those bureaucrats should go to jail too.

EDIT:  Here's the story on the 75 year bullshit:
