Officials in Gettysburg are bracing for protests this weekend coinciding with the 154th anniversary of the Civil War battle fought there.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans and a patriots’ group called Real 3% Risen, have received special use permits for 11 a.m to 6 p.m. Saturday in a special section north of Meade’s Headquarters.
“We make accommodations for people who want to exercise their First Amendment rights,” said Katie Lawhon, a spokeswoman for the Gettysburg National Military Park.
Officials also are aware of plans for other rallies that have been announced on social media but have not obtained permits and there are unconfirmed reports that anarchists plan to burn Confederate flags during the anniversary of the battle
Reports that the anti-fascist group Antifa plans to burn Confederate flags and desecrate graves has prompted calls on social media for other groups to gather in Gettysburg to counter anarchist protesters.
The anniversary of the battle, which raged from July 1 to July 3, 1863, comes at a time when there is a growing movement to remove Confederate symbols from public spaces.

Gettysburg is one of my favorite places. Just so much history there, and maybe a few ghosts running around. It is a beautiful place that when not crowded is very tranquil. If these Antifa types burn flags, and desecrate graves like the say they are going to they are in for a rude awakening.

I'm with you on this. If the protesters want to march - have at it. Desecrating graves, lock them up.

If they decide to get violent, arrest them. Start prosecuting them for vandalism, inciting riots and whatever else is applicable. I don't think this will stop them, but for some of those who think it's "cool" to be part of it instead of being actual believers, they may think twice.

During the Obama Admin there was a hesitancy by the police to actually enforce the law for fear of legal, and public cries of police abuse, especially of minorities. This has to change, and you're correct they need to arrest the offenders, and depending on the charges make the pay up and including jail time.

Not surprisingly given the poor state of our public school system combined with the viscous demonization strategies of the left, but these "Antifa" anarchists have zero comprehension of what Fascism truly is.
