Saw on the local news this morning that the Chicago Police issued a statement saying that there was "No Evidence" the attack is a hoax. Of course their leadership is all Democrat, and the city leaders like the corrupt, subversive Rahm Emanuel are all Far Left Democrats.This kind of reporting used to make me mad. But I think people are paying more attention to what they see around them than what they see in the news. And they don’t see people of color being attacked by conservatives in red hats. Once again you fail to account for media outlets like Fox News, Tribune media and others. Hell, Tribune media is rabidly conservative and controls nearly half of all local TV stations. Fox News is a juggernaut with huge viewership.
The real problem isn't that there are outlets on the left or right. The real problem is folks tend to listen and/or watch content that reinforces their already established beliefs. That just increases the polarization we've seen in the America electorate. Gone are the days when we could count on reporting as honest and unbiased journalism.
Actually, unbiased journalism isn't new in America. It goes back a very, very long way. What's new is the widespread dissemination.

Tribune media sends out rabidly conservative commentaries that member stations absolutely have to broadcast. Remember, local news is usually where you go for high school football scores and stories about fluffy puppies. it usually sin't where you go for political commentary, but Tribune is changing that.
There is some push back. I've seen that some stations broadcast the commentary in the middle of the night, or some other time of low viewership. I doubt that'll last though. I won't claim that there are a large number of media outlets that swing leftward. I just have to remind you that there are plenty that swing rightward. If there weren't Lucifer wouldn't have aught to post.

My mother gets all her news from the liberal rag. She’s a conservative at heart but so brainwashed by that thing. She’s too deaf for TV and refuses to turn on captions so she can’t watch Fox and there is no other paper in the city. It’s heartbreaking seeing her cognitive dissonance. She is filled with anxiety over the negativity of the “news” in that that thing. Once in a while she will rally and think for herself. During the Kavanaugh brouhaha she told me (about CBF) “well what was she doing at the party in the first place?” She believed the story that there was a party but at least she wasn’t buying the metoo horseshit; she thinks if a girl goes out and gets drunk with a bunch of guys she shouldn’t be surprised if they make passes at her. She doesn’t believe in hanging the drunk guy 30 years later. She’s still reasonable. Trying to avoid left wing hysteria. But the pervasive left bias of her news source makes her think there’s something wrong with her.
She is very pro-life, very anti-communism (leftism), pro- job creation, anti- illegal immigration. She liked Trump at the start and would be thrilled with his accomplishments if she knew of them, but that paper has got her all twisted around and full of doubt. It’s not like she is “growing as a person” and seeing the other side. It’s not like she is saying “I had an epiphany- socialism is good after all!” She still has her core values. What that paper has done is make her feel pervasive negativity about everything.

You have to be an intellectually agile person to find and contemplate media articles and news that, taken together, will give you a whole picture. Most won't. Happily, it looks like independent voters are waking up and looking around at the patterns ... Kavanaugh hoax, Covington hoax, Smollett hoax ... and realizing that the Dems have resorted to fiction to keep their narrative alive. They’d have you believe lynchings still occur every little bit, and that Trump and all (63 million!) Trump voters are itching to beat up gays and blacks.

I think the point you’re missing is that mainstream media is left biased. Only Fox isn’t. Mainstream is what you have on at airport terminals, doctors waiting rooms, virtually all city newspapers, most social media newsfeeds, the news popping up on your iPhone. Default media everywhere is left biased.

This is correct but this is one thing I like and respect about Steingar, he isn’t on board with the censorship. Those that are, are authoritarian thugs. This applies to every side. There are right wing and left wing authoritarians and we see the result in history is much the same.

I disagree vehemently with anyone trying to censor conservative media. Censorship is always bad, no matter who's being censored. Like I said, the speech that needs the most protection is that which everyone hates.
I have been participating in this thread because Anthony has consistently said that all media is left biased. I have said over and over again that simply isn't true, that conservative media is alive and well in America. I am genuinely surprised at the numbers Eppy put up, I would have pegged the Fox News viewership quite a bit higher. It is, by the way, what I see in most of the office sI frequent.
That said, if more people are watching left leaning media (something I actually doubt), then the market has decided, which I think you would all agree is a good thing.

You know nothing Nndons. Violent behavior has been impermissible on every college campus with which I've been associated. Were it otherwise I would seek employment elsewhere. Universities are supposed to be sites of free expression.

First, while I would welcome the most virulent of alt-right speakers, I do understand the viewpoint of those students who do not want that sort of indoctrination in their community, and respect their efforts so long as they remain nonviolent. I doubt my University would dare censor students who nonviolently express their ideas and do not interfere with University business. I certainly cannot blame the University for failing got host such ideologues. The problem with hosting such people is you inextricably get labelled with their ideals.
I would like to see an example of a University that has failed to punish students who were identified to have caused violence. There was one at my institution who became violent and suffered no official opprobrium from the school. That's only because he was shot dead during the incident.

Actually, I've been to most of the school sin the UC system in one capacitor another. You're saying that students who initiated and participated in violent actions were identified by the University and no disciplinary action was taken. Prove it.
