George Washington had slaves.  We should rename everything with the name "Washington."

Let's take it a step further.  The Richard Russell Senate Office Building should be changed.  Richard Russell was a democrat seantor who fought against civil rights and was a segregationist.

Remove everything named after Sen Robert Byrd. A democrat senator and was a member of the KKK.  Remove his statues.

Remove everything named after Sen Al Gore, SR.  A democrat senator who opposed civil rights.

Remove everything named after Sen J. William Fullbright. A democrat senator who opposed civil rights.

Remove everything named after FDR.  A democrat President who used internment camps to imprison US citizens because of their ethnicity.

Remove everything named after Woodrow Wilson.  A democrat President who supported the KKK, and a segregationist.

Shall we continue?

I sincerely hope it was an oversight.  Censoring artists in any way due to their political views is reprehensible.

A while back Oregon renamed everything that had the word “squaw” in it. No more Squaw Creek, Squaw Valley, and so on.

Derogatory to women or something.

Burning Man offends me. The HVAC guy told me last week that he had shut and locked the “man door” in our garage. How dare he!

I’m telling you, there is NO END.

Frighteningly, I’m reading a novel about Communist Russia right now. Folks, it’s here. Statues torn down, schools assimilated, speech shut down, forbidden thoughts and words, misinterpreted actions and words, roaming enforcers who may or may not view what you are doing as harmless.

Wow, "squaw" from Wikipedia, if you can get past the massive bias about this being a bad word, and read this far:
Quote
Eastern Algonquian morphemes meaning "woman", which are found as components in other words and may have been transcribed into English include the Massachusett language "squa",[9][8] "skwa", "esqua", "sqeh", "skwe", "que", "kwa", "ikwe", "exkwew", "xkwe", and a number of other variants.[7]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squaw

So it's obvious the word came into English to mean a Native American male's woman, or wife. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Funny how words "turn bad" over time. I can understand when words become used with a tone of scorn, that they can become hurtful.  But I think we go way too far, way too far.  Too much political correctness stifles language and amounts to censorship.

Are you kidding? Look at all the trigger terms in there! English, male, wife!

And lookie here ... everything but white!  The rainbow flag has had brown and black stripes added. No white stripe. Whites are unpersons.

Will it make me hopeful or discouraged? I have a daily limit on leftist insanity, to preserve my sanity. Today’s limit was exceeded before breakfast.

Well, Jordan Peterson always makes me feel hopeful because he articulates truth so well and so many young people are listening to him. But that particular part draws clear parallel between the group identity politics that led to mass persecution in Soviet Russia and today’s leftist inclination toward identity politics. Marxism has been rebranded as “post modernism” but it’s exactly the same thing.
He explains how people solve problems by creating heirarchies which leads to stratification which leads to caring about the disenfranchised and hatred of the competent, and how historically it’s the hatred that predominates. It’s just brilliant.

Communist regimes always erase the history of a country when they overthrow the government.  Progressives are just getting a head start on this one.

How could it possibly cost $600k to paint a wall?

Government contract.
Now, lets wait for government contracts to invade our healthcare system.

They are IDIOTS.  They don't need to paint over it.  They claim it "Traumatizes" the students.  So, these kids can murder everything in sight in graphic fashion in VIDEO GAMES, yet a few Indians and Blacks on a mural traumatizes them?  Yeah right.  GMAFB.

If it really does bother them they can cover it with a tarp with the schools name, and logo on it.  Why DESTROY it?  It is legitimate history.

History disagrees with the narrative.  To a progressive communist history is bad.

Just take a look at what the communist did in Russia and China after the overthrow.

For $600K you'd think they could have it preserved and moved to a museum.  It is legitimate, historical artwork.  I thought these "woke" enlightened, SJW types appreciated art?

And it's at a public school.  How much did they pay for the artwork in the first place?  Heck, for $100k I'd take some paint and change the offending figures to happy white folk.

Look at all of the art that the communist regimes around the world destroyed.

Then, today, look at all of the historical art the progressives are attempting to destroy or remove from the public.

Progressives have already stopped some school systems from teaching history pre reconstruction.   They already ignore their own history pre Obama.  When was the last time you heard them refer to JFK or LBJ?   These use to be icons of the democrats.

We are just one election away from losing this country.

from the referenced article, they budgeted $600,000 to cover the required environmental review (I kid you not) and expected legal challenges.

Thanks Bob, I didn't catch that.  The only environmental risk is if there is lead paint, or asbestos in the wall, and determining that would cost next to nothing.  Remediation is another matter, but again there are was to do that by just encapsulating the area which is easy and very low in cost.

The extra $575000 is for payoffs and graft.
