This is not the Onion. The Illinois Senate passed a bill requiring Presidential candidates to release the past 5 years of tax returns and have them posted online and “certified” by the Secretary of State.
Of course this is a bill to keep Trump off the 2020 ballot.
Keep it up Democrats. You are hastening the next civil war faster than you realize. And we have all the guns.

How is it constitutional for states to do what many are doing ... this tax return thing, the withholding of electoral votes, and so on?
This Illinois thing looks to me like blatant manipulation ... you don’t like someone, so you make a law designed to take them out.
Seems like Old West stuff to me ... a corrupt sheriff does whatever he wants with the power of “law” behind him ... but it isn’t federal law.

Every so often, some state tries garbage like this and the Supreme Court reminds them that they cannot add additional requirements to run for President.
The law on this is already settled.

It would be interesting to see if they specifically say that no one can require a candidate, regardless of office, to produce their tax returns.

That's not a sure thing. With Roberts and Kavanaugh voting with liberals, who knows what is going to happen!

That's not as clear as "shall not be infringed", and look at how man laws SCOTUS allows that do infringe.

Communist organizations? You mean like the Democrat Party whom have totally embraced Totalitarian Communism, and are doing whatever they can to ensure one Party rule? It is why they are bringing in illegal aliens, and why they want to abolish the Electoral College, steal our guns, among other things.

They aren't suppressing votes. Everyone is allowed to vote. Everyone is encouraged to vote. They are just restricted to voting for the approved candidate.
