Quote
(CNSNews.com) - Of the 150,272,157 tax returns filed for the 2016 tax year, 50,219,667—or 33.4 percent--were classified by the Internal Revenue Service as “nontaxable returns,” meaning the people who filed them paid $0 or less in income taxes, according to data published by the Statistics of Income Division of the IRS.

At the same time, 80 percent of all income taxes paid that year were paid by tax return filers who had adjusted gross incomes of $100,000 or more.

Table 2.3 in the Statistics of Income data released by the IRS lists the total number of all returns the IRS estimates it received in a tax year. It also breaks that number down by the number “taxable returns” and the number of “nontaxable returns.”

Then they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Wait, wait, I thought the rich don't pay their fair share!

I'm far from rich, yet paid more this year.

Really?

One of those was my mother who was 77.  She made ~9000 in social security and around 1200 in capital gains.  After the standard 12,000 deduction under the president's new plan, her net income was 0.

You're suggesting she should not have been allowed to vote?

People whom have no "skin in the game" shouldn't be allowed to vote.

If you worked and paid taxes all your life but your retirement income isn’t enough to pay taxes I would let you still vote.

On the other hand people can get stupid when they get older. I would mandate cognitive testing for all voters. My mother at 92 has “mild cognitive dysfunction”. She is very pliable and easily manipulated.

That and making it illegal for the so-called civic organizations going into nursing homes and filling out the ballots (voting democrat) for those with cognitive dysfunction.

I wouldn't have used the word "stupid", (maybe "confused"), but otherwise, I agree with you.
My reasoning for not allowing people that don't pay taxes to vote, is that some of those people will vote for whoever promises them enough freebies that they won't have to work.  People on SS are counting on young people actually working and paying taxes, so they won't vote for quite as much "free stuff".

Who was it that said something like "Democracy dies when people realize they can vote themselves money"?

This is one of the biggest fuckups by George W Bush. One of his tax cuts drastically raised the threshold for people to pay a single dollar of federal income tax. Of course he sold it as a “compassionate conservative” but as any of us could have told him, it gave him no quarter with the leftists who, to this day, still use the “pay their fair share” bullshit.

Fucking RINOs.

All the Bush's are New World Order, Globalist RINO's.  I tried to be supportive of GWB when he was in office, but with crap like that it was difficult.  Yet I voted for him twice just to avoid the outright Commie alternatives.  Gore, Kerry.  Really?  A con man, and Lurch?  "Cutting off heads, cutting off...."  Ugh.  Ahhh, NO.

Then when all the Bush's started criticizing Trump during his candidacy and after he was elected, they totally lost me.  They are no better than Democrats.  I got sick when I saw GWB handing Michelle Obama candy every time they were together.  Same side of the same coin!  The media saying they're such good friends.  Please.  Effing elitists, all of them.

Everyone should pay some tax, everyone.  Even if those 50,219,667 only have to pay in $100 each, they still should contribute something.

And remember, in that 50,219,667, many get tax credits, and even though they pay zero in federal taxes, they still see a refund.  That crap needs to stop as well.

I would mandate cognitive testing for all voters.

Really?

You're not afraid of who is going to create, standardize and grade that test?  Next think you know, if you're a conservative, then you'll be mentally incompetent and therefore can't vote.  The left already believes this, why would you suggest anything to support them in executing it?

I'm of the opinion that there ought to be very few barriers to voting - identify who you are when you register and when you vote.

Official voting cognitive test.

A movie comes out including representation for all races. How do you respond?
A:  Applaud the filmmakers' diversity and enjoy the movie.
B:  Complain about lack of representation for LBGT people.
C:  Yell, "Stay in your lane, whitey!" whenever a white person comes on the screen.
D:  Scream at the sky.

Cipriano v. City of Houma

City of Phoenix v. Kolodzieski

The Court has previously ruled that you cannot exclude non-taxpayers from voting as a violation of equal protection.  If you want to change that, change the 17th Amendment.

IIRC democrats have a higher mean income than republicans so you could potentially be cutting out more republican voters than you intended.

There are many times in my life i've not paid federal income taxes. When In school with a parttime job. The year I switched careers. Doesn't mean I didn't have "skin in the game". Voting should be easy if your of age and a citizen then you get to vote.

The idea of test(financial, cognitive etc) is scary. Why give government that power?

Agree for the most part, but we may be getting to, or past the tipping point where more people that do not pay Federal Income Tax, or maybe even state income tax can vote for more, and more benefits.  My concern is that they vote irresponsibly for self serving interests.  I don't know how to address that or even if we can in a "free" Republic.  We may be going down the rabbit hole and it is inevitable I fear.
