Title: Let's Pretend:
Post by: Number7 on August 12, 2019, 09:03:08 AM
Let's pretend you're a democrat...

The field is the current crop of democrats (communists) running for the democratic (communist) party nomination.

Who would you pick and why???

I would vote present., because I'm not stupid enough to think there is a democrat (communist) running that cares even a tiny bit about America, jobs, the economy, or the greater good of anyone by themselves.

Having said that, I am interested in other opinions, which sounds like a paradox.

Right now I think the only one in the clown car that could launch a viable campaign is Tulsi Gabbard.

However, she's not extreme left enough to satisfy the progressives.

If I were serious about picking the best of the worst, I too would probably choose Tulsi.

But in reality, if I had to vote for one of those dorks, I would vote for Bernie.  It would be using the old theory of "give them enough rope".  He would prove their way doesn't work faster than most of the rest because he would push for it harder because he is the only one that really believes in that socialist bullshit.  The others just like promising free stuff to get votes.

I was talking to a friend of mine today about just this issue.  If McConnell, Trump and the Republicans support yet more gun control law like an Assault Weapons Ban (yeah I know, not really assault weapons) and have something like a mandatory buy back program, then we are going to vote Democrat.

Let the shit storm begin, and let the Democrats hang themselves.

I guess if I had to choose one it would be Gabbard, but yeah let's see what Bernie, or Warren would do to destroy things the most quickly.

My biggest problem with a few people that I knew that identified as libertarian is that they are actually anarchists.  Extremists seem to ruin everything for everybody. (not saying all libertarians are extremist; I am talking about libertarians and others that ARE extremists.

I call myself a Conservatarian, as I like elements of both.  No, I am not for Anarchy.

This is so correct. Even conservatives are being too extreme and risk losing in 2020 because of it. I’m thinking of abortion and don’t want to get too flamed here, but the recent “heartbeat” laws are way too extreme for today’s culture. Yes I believe life begins at conception but I also believe in positioning yourself realistically to get elected. If you don’t win elections then you cannot stop the most extreme pro-abortion policies in the other direction. The heartbeat laws effectively ban abortion at 6 weeks. The majority of people are not on the extreme ends of the issue, but somewhere in between, ie abortion should be allowed in some circumstances up to some point of time, and this includes a big chunk of Republicans and people who identify as ideological conservatives.

I fear extreme abortion bans may lose swing voters who otherwise will go Republican because of the economy. I realize these bans are at the state level, and my official position on the matter is Roe vs Wade should be revoked and each state can regulate abortion as they see fit. On that level I have no problem with state heartbeat laws. But I fear that they could influence federal elections too and I am in terror of losing to the Dems in 2020. If the Dems win and implement anything like a green new deal there will be mass destruction of life in the long run exceeding those lost to first trimester abortions.

Even so it’s a moral dilemma to “sacrifice” today’s babies to save the future and I might not advocate that, but I believe those babies will be aborted anyway. People in those states will simply go to another state for the abortion. So the law isn’t saving babies and it has the potential to turn off swing voters.

I also recognize that reversing RvW and leaving it up to states has the same result, but nevertheless that seems to be what is Constitutional. The federal government should stay out of it, just like they should stay out of a hundred thousand other things they do to interfere with State sovereignty.

Which parts would keep a Republican from being elected or reelected for backing this?
