Title: The coming death of just about every rock legend

Quote
Though popular music sales in general have plummeted since their peak around the turn of the millennium, certain genres continue to generate commercial excitement: pop, rap, hip-hop, country. But rock — amplified and often distorted electric guitars, bass, drums, melodic if frequently abrasive lead vocals, with songs usually penned exclusively by the members of the band — barely registers on the charts. There are still important rock musicians making music in a range of styles — Canada's Big Wreck excels at sophisticated progressive hard rock, for example, while the more subdued American band Dawes artfully expands on the soulful songwriting that thrived in California during the 1970s. But these groups often toil in relative obscurity, selling a few thousand records at a time, performing to modest-sized crowds in clubs and theaters.

But there's another sense in which rock is very nearly dead: Just about every rock legend you can think of is going to die within the next decade or so.

This will force us not only to endure their passing, but to confront our own mortality as well.

Thanks for reminding me how fast I’m getting old.  :'(

The age of rock is dying?  Can’t be.

Except Keith Richards.  He apparently is never dying.

Yes music has changed.  I never thought I'd see the type of Pop music we have now.  I can't stand it, nor Hip Hop.  Taylor Swift?  Ugh.  It is almost as if The Beatles never happened, and all the other 60's rock onward.  I think Country is the new Rock, but I don't like that either.

So I've been thinking about this.  Maybe good music isn't dead. This band has been my favorite for about 12 years now. Not exactly hard rock, I think this is considered progressive alternative rock or some such, or maybe just a class of their own. But they definitely are creative musicians, not formulaic.  Especially in their early years.  I recommend listening to this with a good headset and your eyes closed.

I'm a fan of rock music, but I'm a bigger fan of the blues.  And without the blues, we would have never had rock.

If you get a chance listen to Peter Frampton's latest album, All Blues.   He covers several blues standards and knocks it out of the park.

I will, and I agree about the blues.

I liked Peter Frampton when he was with Steve Marriot in Humble Pie.

Listen to All Blues.  I’ve always liked Frampton, but I was blown away by his latest, and a blues recording!   It’s absolutely perfect.

Things like this seem come in threes. Who’s next?

Just saw that Rod Stewart is in remission from prostate cancer. That’s a good thing.

I'm surprised Paul McCartney and Ringo are still around and still touring!  Then, yeah, Keith Richard.  Go figure.

Keith Richards will outlive all of us.

Here’s an old blues standard he recorded 30 years ago, and was just released this year.

bah, the first time I really felt old was when I was working with someone who wasn't yet born when I started working at the company.

Think about the people who weren't even born yet the last time Man walked on the moon (about 47 years ago).

Think about the people who weren't even born yet when we lost the shuttle Challenger (about 33 years ago).

Think about the people who weren't even born yet when the Mode C requirement when into effect (more than 30 years ago).

I still find it hard to believe Jimmi Hendrix has been gone 49 years ago.

We lost Stevie Ray Vaughn 29 years ago.

Grace Slick somehow went from Hot to Not in record time. Sad.

Grace Slick was a model before she was a rock singer.  Now she's just a bald fat pig!  LOL!

If one doesn't take care of themselves as they age, it will not be a graceful process.
