Title: Massive power outage Norcal
Post by: Anthony on October 09, 2019, 08:53:37 AM
Looks like PG&E is getting back at all the people that filed lawsuits over the forest fires.  Instead of using the money to keep trees away from the power lines, they have to use it in legal fees, and file CH. 11 bankruptcy.  I lived in the Bay Area at one time (can you believe it?) and know Marin County very well.  It is populated by very wealthy FAR LEFT Progressives.  They are getting what they asked for.

Quote
Overnight, the utility shut off power to more than half a million customers in Central, Coastal and Northern California. Officials said a second group of about 234,000 customers will lose power starting at noon.

It could take as many as five days to restore power after the danger has passed because every inch of power line must be checked to make sure it isn’t damaged or in danger of sparking a blaze, PG&E said.

The utility, whose lines deliver electricity to millions of Northern California residents, began what they call Public Safety Power Shutoffs around midnight in some regions–Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Marin Counties–as a precaution to prevent deadly wildfires.

PG&E is currently under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after its power lines ignited several massive wildfires in Northern California since 2017. Victims of those fires have filed millions of dollars in damage lawsuits against the utility.

The utility claims a combination of a high wind advisory and red flag wildfire warning forced their hand.

Wow, good thing they have all those electric vehicles that don’t use energy, otherwise what would they drive to get to Whataburger?

One way the local government can claim victory in keeping rates low is by allowing the companies to defer triming branches away from power lines.

Well, that's penny wise and pound foolish, however, I believe that in the right of ways and/or easements it would be the utility's responsibility, but it's California so who knows what convoluted scheme they have going.

Between the brown outs in the summer, and this stuff, how will they charge all those Electric Vehicles they are going to mandate?

Of course.  Maybe it's different in California, but in Massachusetts, electric rates have to be approved by the government (some state bureau or something).  These politicians are usually stupid.  It is much better for them to be able to pat themselves on the back because they "saved" money.  They usually don't think it all the way through and realize that trimming the branches is better in the long run.

Areas of the country that have the highest electric rates (PG&E can’t claim income poverty):

(Note how the California rates halt at its borders while other areas seem demarcated geophysically.)

A thing now is for neighborhoods to sue power companies for trimming trees because it "spoils the view".  And probably removes squirrel homes or bird nests or some such.

Don't get me started. My first full time job was as an engineer with an electric utility.  Do not get me started on the many and varied government and environmental whacko interferences that have all but RUINED the industry. If not for them we would by today have the majority of our power clean nuclear, with coal and gas for peaks and saving all the oil for cars trains and planes: thousands of years of all the cheap abundant electricity we could feed our iThings and our air conditioners and if you really must, charge our pitiful little runt electric cars. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOO government and greenies fucked it all up from the start by ruining nuclear, whining about coal pollution and shutting down coal plants when we have fossil reserves for at least a thousand years, plenty to run down the clock on the impending population implosion. This planet will never run out of energy to support modern man. Or wouldn't if we stopped knuckling under to fascist authoritarian extremists and idiotic bureaucracy. But no, instead we face more blackouts, brownouts and ultimately mass starvation, if they get their way. People like Warren, AOC and the Green New Dealers must NEVER get in power. If they succeed in trying that bullshit we will experience a Hell that makes Stalin, Mao and Hitler's look like child's play. We are all extremely dependent on electric power and fossil fuel (for not just power but extracted products) for virtually every single thing in every minute of every day WAY more than we were even in 1942. Yet most of us are so disconnected and ignorant of it the average person has no damn clue how the juice gets to the outlet in his house, NONE. And then they go out and vote Democrat.

GOV wants high electric rates because they want you using less.  If that means driving less, all the better.  They hate cars and want you on the bus.

And they want us herded into cities or at least Metro areas, voting for the Collective (Democrats), dependent and controlled.

I think you meant say that they want everyone trapped in cities and forced to vote for communists
