Title: PA Dem clean sweep
Post by: President in Exile YOLT on November 06, 2019, 06:57:46 AM
It's been drifting for the last few elections. but the once solidly R county and township I live in just went completely --county and town commissioners, the freaking school board, the coroner! -- Left. Straight ticket results is like 1.7:1 D:R.

There are a lot of immigrants moving in because there's a Big Pharma presence, but the town is largely (white). So just Millennial dummies voting robotically. Also of interest is the fact that we went to the "fill in the circle" ballots for the first time since, I don't know, the 60s.

The only thing Left for me to do is follow Mr Trump to Florida, which is now in full steam ahead mode.

I'm done.

 Aw, c'mon.........

Look at all the progress done in liberal/leftist controlled areas!  Why, it's a utopia!

You're in Montco, right?  Same thing happened to me in Chester County.  Even the County Sheriff and DA went Democrat.  It used to  be a solid Republican County, but now with all the growth and development we've got loony leftists moving from both inner suburbs and out of state.  Communists from NY and NJ and elsewhere with their Teslas and Land Rovers.

At one point I was considering moving back to Colorado, but the Front Range is now California, so maybe Wyoming for me.

The Trump effect at work.  I landed at Chester County once.  Flew in to see my nephew in prison there.  Got raped up the six by the airport, never had seen a jet in a ditch before.

So you got raped going to see a nephew in prison that's by the airport, and for some reason a jet went into a ditch because of it?

Maybe he got raped up the six when he was near the airport?  Or his nephew got raped in prison when Steingar was near the airport?  Or did the jet in the ditch rape his nephew?  Not very clear.

There are other airports in Chester County.  Was it Carlson you landed at?  I don't know of any prisons near there.

Here?

Not the Trump effect.  They metro area Nanny State effect.  We have too many people moving in from NY and NJ to escape high taxes and higher cost of living, then the recreate the same MADNESS where they relocate.  It's called stupidity.

I thought he meant the airport charged him an arm and a leg for fuel. That's what "raped up the six by the airport" sounds like to me.  I didn't really get the jet in the ditch comment. Pics?

PS: what's the nephew in prison for?

I don't know.  It could be him projecting what he really wants.  :)

It's got all the earmarks of a fantasy or dream.  Prison, rape, jets in ditches.........

PA is pretty much surrounded by Communist, Nanny State occupied, enemy territory.  I don't even like to fly over it for fear of being shot down, and unarmed as they don't recognize my PA LTCF (license to carry).  New York to the North, New Jersey to the East, and Maryland to the South.  Godless, soulless lands devoid of reason and hope.  PA will eventually become the same and I will leave before that happens.

I thought I was flying into some podunk airport, instead I landed at this big city airport with tons of jets all around (one of which had been driven into the weeds under mysterious circumstances).  Paid big city prices for tie down and gas, despite the fact being in the middle of podunk.  Chester County airport, which was the nearest to my destination, the Chester County Prison where my nephew was a guest.  My concern was that his father lived in Nevada and his mother (my sister) was dead (though I am certainly glad she didn't live to see her only son go to prison). I was at that point the first person to visit him (he didn't even know how to use the phone) and I'll bet I'm the only one who did.  I'm the only member of the family with an aircraft who can make that trip in an efficacious fashion.

So I did it.  I certainly don't approve of the crime for which he was incarcerated, but he is still my nephew.

It is good that he knows he has family that will take the time and trouble to visit him.

He doesn't have the "stones" to respond to me anymore.  God knows where he was.  The Chester County Prison is nowhere near there.  It is closer to West Chester, Brandywine OQN now.  Used to be N99.  The FFL I use for firearm transfers works there.

Wherever the hell I landed was as close to the fucking prison as I could get in an airplane that had the facilities to rent me a car.  Couldn't just hop over to the Prison wherever I felt like it, had to go at a specific time in the morning.  There was nowhere closer, I checked.  It was about a 15 minute drive, if memory serves.  I recall Chester County, maybe I'm wrong.  Don't really give a shit about rural Pennsylvania airports.  Not a big deal to me.  What surprised me was to see this giant airport with all the jets out in the middle of the damn sticks.  I got raped up the six by the costs, but I was able to score a car, so I shouldn't bitch too hard.  Turns out one of the big home shopping networks, QVC I think, is just down the road.  The big airport is for all the celebrities to come in on their jets and hawk all their shit.

The picture looks like Coatesville, Chester County Airport KMQS, but you mention QVC (the TV retailer) and they are located in West Chester and practically NEXT to West Chester Airport KOQN.  And neither Coatesville, nor West Chester are "in the sticks".  Certainly not West Chester which is county seat of the most affluent and fastest growing County in PA, Chester County, and has a university and a very vibrant downtown area.

Coatesville is a bit farther West, and in a less populace area that is undergoing tremendous development with most new homes starting at $600K and up and $400K Townhomes.  So hardly podunkville, or however you characterize it.   West Chester is no more than 35 - 40 minutes from Philadelphia and Coatesville Airport which is actually substantially west the city of Coatesville is no more than 50 - 60- minutes.

The Kathryn's report says KMQS, so that's where I was.  I didn't see any city or anything else from the ground, so it looked like the sticks to me.  Hell, I could even get any fucking cell phone coverage.  The guy at the FBO was the one who told me about the QVC thing, so what do i know?  Not my circus.  Everyone was really tightly wound about the jet thing.  Some said brake failure, someone else said the guy was drunk while taxiing it, someone else said tow failure.  I neither know nor care.  What I do know is I hit foul wx on the way back and stopped in Altoona.  Spent the night in the seediest Motel 6 I've ever seen.  Folks were living there, there were fights and cops.  Didn't bother me any, had a nice flight back the next day.  I hope to never see that part of the country again.

Anthony, since you so vitriolically hate anything remotely liberal I suggest you move to the deep South, Alabama, Mississippi, or Louisiana.  I think even the Carolinas might be a bit too liberal for you.  Either that or Alaska.  I'm surprised you speak with such pride about Eastern Pennsylvania, since you seem to hate the place.  In that we are in agreement, I'll be happy to be done with it , though I suspect I'm going to have a flight to Lockhaven at some time in the near future.  Definitely NOT looking forward to it.

So you're going to hire a pilot then?

No, there's a part that you buy from Lasar.  The front opening of the aircraft is enormous, far larger than it needs to be.  It causes drag, and actually contributes to engine heat, as some of the air backs out and doesn't cool the engine.  One of the changes on the 201 was to reduce this opening to a couple small nacelles.  The part just covers up part of this yawning opening.  It's $500 from Lasar, and is supposed to be good for 4-5 knots.  And there's a mechanic locally who's put in a  few before.

No beer fridge?  I thought you were a pilot.

I never, Never NEVER NEVER ever drink and drive. The beer, and more importantly the bourbon, are at home.

Yes, that would be The Lucky Strike during her visit to that airport.  And while she may be old, she has good bones and certainly has it where it counts.  She'll handily outrun your Grumman on the same gas.

They were awfully nice at that airport too.  Were I headed back I would certainly think about landing there again.  Of course it is my fond hope not to return to that part of the world.

You maybe have five knots on the Tiger.  Maybe.  And with a constant speed prop, and retract gear to maintain.   Hey, I like Mooneys, but only an M20J/201 would be worth it for me.  You have a nice airplane, no question.  I have flown an M20C and M20F.  Good rides.

They were awfully nice at that airport too.  Were I headed back I would certainly think about landing there again.  Of course it is my fond hope not to return to that part of the world.

You should have fly into Brandywine/West Chester, KOQN, as the prison is much closer to there.  Nice airport too, but so is KMQS.  I am sure you can get rental cars.  I know Enterprise will drop off and pick up there.

Gear is manual, and doesn't take much maintenance.  And the Grumman gets its speed from a cruise prop, and as such climbs like a dog.  Not only am I faster, but I'll be at altitude way sooner.  Oh, and my Mooney cost less to buy.

I think I was motivated ahead of time mostly by the rental car, and it wasn't at all clear that I could score one at the other airport.  I came in on a Sunday evening, and lots of places close Sunday afternoon.  Not at all displeased at the outcome of the trip.  Whatever I paid for gas and facilities was worth it having local transportation.  Thankfully my nephew was sprung from that place long ago and moved away from the area, so I have no need to return.  I have no desire either.

My apologies, but I see no photo.  Still, you can see my aircraft and easily determine if it is in your photograph.

Me neither.  There is no photo in that post. But there is a small empty square where I assume a photo should be.  I wonder if our browsers are scrubbing out a script or something.

Wrong.  Most Tigers have a 63 degree pitch prop which is halfway between a cruise and a climb prop, and still get an honest 135 KTAS.  They get their speed from aerodynamic clean up and the wing design.  180 HP planes gain little from a constant speed prop, but Tiger owners can install an MT electric, constant speed prop if they so desire.  Not many think it is necessary.  Remember, I was based at an airport that was over 5,000 FT MSL for several years, and flew everywhere over 12K FT, and climbing to altitude was never a problem.

In #18 ?

That's weird, I can see it on two different laptops-- one  uses Chrome, the other Opera, and I see it on my iPhone as well.

The big city Carolinas are turning Democrat. Bunch of yankees moving in.

Yep.  I lived in Charlotte from 2000-2006. I noticed it changing.

There’s a town around Raleigh by the name of Cary.  Natives call it the “Containment Area for Relocated Yankees.”

No need to worry folks.  I currently live and work in the Charlotte area and I can attest to the fact that racist, xenophobic, homophobic, illiterate southerners still dominate.   I work with several.

Is it the same picture as in post #45?

Can't see it in Chrome  nor in IE.  Really weird.

PS OOOOOH!!!  The image is a link, not a file you uploaded. The link only works if you are logged in to Beechtalk.  Like Jim just said which flew over my head.  ;D

It’s still a cruise prop. And I wouldn’t hesitate to fly out of a high altitude airport. My Mooney will still outclimb and outrun your Tiger on a much smaller acquisition cost. I’ve yet to have a problem climbing into the teens. Like I’ve said, Tigers are for those who haven’t the stones to fly complex. And that’s fine. A man’s gotta know his limitations.

I don't understand why you continue to have to get insulting, and say things like I don't "have the stones" to fly complex?  I have more hours in my friends last two Bonanzas as PIC than you probably have in your Mooney.  Why fool around with the additional maintenance and cost of a constant speed prop and retract gear for 5 knots?

Plus there are other factors, like the sliding canopy for summer ops, and that I can fold the back seats down and have a six foot long cargo space for bikes, camping gear, or to sleep in which I've done.  Again, climb has never been an issue either.  But, keep up your little, childish and demeaning rants largely based on wrong info.

The old Mooney's are fine.  They are a PITA to work on, weeping fuel tanks, tiny panels, etc.  If one is of midget proportions, they're comfortable.

The older C's and E's are hardly speed demons unless someone wants to spend big bucks to modify them.  The 201's solved that problem and in my opinion are much more desirable.

The Grumman's are in their own class.  Economical, plenty of speed and just downright fun to fly. Lots of room, easy to work on, great fold down rear seat.

^^^^^The M20J/201 is the only Mooney I would consider, or maybe a modernized, highly modded M20F.

My Mooney has bladders, so the leaky tanks thing is in the rear view mirror.  I agree it is a pain to work on, so I pay a mechanic who makes a lot less than I do. I suck at wrenching. As far as speed, for the money a vintage Mooney cannot be touched for speed. The short body Mooneys are the biggest bang for your buck in GA. The only thing faster on the same money are some one seat experimentals.

Tigers are nice airplanes, but when I was looking a Tiger commanded a 20-30 thousand dollar premium.  That is too much money to spend to go slower, even if you do get the canopy and folding seats and whatever else. The constant speed prop does add complexity, but is adds efficiency too. And my Johnson bar gear is as low maintenance and foolproof as I could ask for.  The biggest thing for me is the Mooney is the stoutest airplane out there. When the chips are down, if I can keep the aircraft under control and fly it all the way into the crash the Mooney will take care of me. I don’t need a parachute, I fly a Mooney.
