Oh God... he’s climbing in the polls:

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/andrew-yang-freedom-dividend-matt-taibbi-katie-halper-useful-idiots-920375/amp/

He doesn’t scare me as much as say, Warren. I completely agree with him that AI replacing humans looks like it could be a major problem, but his solution of universal income is most definitely not the answer. Right now, unemployment is way down, and we have yet to see a sign of the catastrophic effects of AI, if they’re imminent.

The problem with him, like with all young Democrats, is they never got a good education in economics, while knowing a lot about technology. They feel smart because of their tech knowledge but are deplorably ignorant of how money works.

My theory is that new vocations will replace the lost truck driver and retail jobs. A big upcoming thing is locally grown food production. People are getting sick of tasteless produce bred to survive a trip halfway across the planet while not ripe. People are waking up to the cruelty of industrial meat production. Small farms raising grass fed beef are making a comeback at least would be if we could get the government regulators out of the way, and prevent too much of a “vegan only” mentality from taking over the country. Likewise there is a huge potential for medical marijuana production.

It’s way too early to know for sure if there will be a big unemployment problem caused by AI, but one thing I do know for a fact: humans will be entrepreneurs and figure out something to do with their time, to earn a living, if, and this is a very big IF, government stays the hell out of their way. Regulation can completely kill this spirit, not to mention taxation. If humans are left to be free this problem will solve itself, but if not, something like a universal basic income will be pushed on us and our civilization will decay, as people sit around doing nothing, collecting money that becomes ever more worthless because it’s not associated with anything of real value.

Some humans will be entrepreneurs.  Others will be parasites.

AI could replace politicians today.  They wouldn't have to be programed to do anything smart.  What the AIs would be programmed to do is left as an exercise for the read.

About 10 years ago, I faithfully patronized, at some inconvenience to myself, my local egg farmer, my local meat producers, and my local CSA (weekly box of locally grown veg) producer. I even got my Thanksgiving Turkey from the local turkey farmer.

They’re all gone now. Too much backbreaking labor for too little profit. We still have farmers markets in season, but I’m back to the grocery store the rest of the year.

Some humans will be entrepreneurs.  Others will be parasites.

Most parasites will actually work for food if:

* they have a supportive community, including social shaming for not pulling your own weight
* they aren’t burdened by unreasonable tax and regulations
* people can legally shoot burglars, looters and robbers
* welfare handouts are not easily available
* male children are raised by their fathers, or other strong male role model

A healthy society has morality and self polices parasitic behavior. You can’t get rid of them entirely but you can minimize them.

But it might be too late to go back to that in the U.S.

When I look at what politicians are doing today, I almost get physically sick. Look at the impeachment proceedings for example, and know that all of that is being paid for by the taxpayer.

Fascinating discussion about AI and democrats, but no comment about the video?

It’s funny his handler starts to pull him away when he knows it’s going to go viral and look very bad.

I did too. I met the local farmers literally in the back parking lot and paid cash like it was a drug deal. Part of the problem is regulation, raw milk being illegal for example. Demand would have to grow a lot more for it to gain the kind of organization and structure that would support it, and we aren’t there yet.

What’s to say? Juvenile humor, and very inappropriate. But then, Trump said “pussy” so there’s that.

I don’t know anything about the back story, but for a presidential candidate to think that this is a good thing on camera shows either their utter stupidity, or utter contempt for most normal voters.

Honestly, my daughter is a dairy veterinarian, and she sees milk production literally from the second it leaves the cow. She is very against raw milk, because of the very significant dangers of salmonella, E. coli, listeria, and even viruses.

I agree with your daughter to an extent.  The regulations have become beyond ridiculous.  I talked to a local creamery who sells homemade ice cream.  It used to be a dairy farm and they still have cows for SHOW ONLY.  They have to buy their cream from somewhere else indicating the regulations are so onerous that it wouldn't be profitable to use their own milk!  I forget the details as it was some time ago that I talked to them, but I remember just shaking my head in disbelief.

I like to think that milk comes from a store in a carton.  Not from a cow.  Don't even get me started on goat milk.  eeeeeeeeeeew  too close in size to my dogs.  And eggs.  They come from stores.

Trust me, my daughter is conservative and against stupid regulations. However, she is integrally involved in the food safety aspects of food production, and knows how outbreaks occur.

One of her favorite movies is Outbreak. Yes, these vets are all a little sick!
