Title: More NFL Virtue Signaling: Aluminum Cups
Post by: nddons on February 01, 2020, 09:39:43 AM
Apparently, recyclable aluminum cups are more “sustainable” than recyclable plastic cups?  Do they even hear themselves?

Don’t get me wrong. I like metal cups. But sustainable?

I can’t wait until they are used at every game. I wonder if some, say, Philly fans might just figure out that a few crushed aluminum cups make a hell of a projectile.

They will do, say, and use anything to virtue signal they are "saving the planet" even if it is worse for the planet.  Doesn't matter to the Steingars of the world.

Yes, I'm rising to the bait.  Dec. 15, 1968.  Me being an eight year old kid with my Dad and Uncle.  It had snowed the night before and maybe that morning.  We arrived at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field in West Philly to planes flying over head trailing banners saying "Joe must  Go!.  Vendors were selling Joe must Go buttons and tee shirts.  Joe was Joe Kuharich, the Eagles coach at the time and with the worst season record of many bad seasons.  People were angry, cold, tired of losing, tired of the snow, and tired of living in an around a city in decline.

The stadium still had snow everywhere, especially in the stands where we were forced to sit on wooden benches next to mostly drunken fans that were not only vocal but pornographically so on what the coach and the team could do with the ball, goal post, their heads, etc.

The Eagles sucked as usual, and half time arrives.  The "real" Santa couldn't make it for whatever reason, so a drunken, skinny fan stepped in to be Santa.  He comes staggering out onto the field.  People realized immediately that it wasn't the real Santa and we had been duped yet again.  Immediately boos filled the stadium.  Santa was now the object of all the pent up frustration and hatred the fans had bottled up.  Then snowballs started to pelt Santa from everywhere, and not only snowballs.  SLUSH BALLS as the snow had started to melt in the rising temperatures.

They guy next to me, an "adult" was scooping up slush in front of him and throwing it in between sips from his flask.  I looked at my Dad, and he just shook his head NO, because he knew exactly what I was thinking.  I knew better than to disobey him.  However, we ALL laughed our asses off the entire time Santa was getting destroyed.  Fuck Santa was the cheer of the day!  (not for me, I would have gotten in trouble}

Now, 52 years later, the National Media still brings up that game and incident to describe Philly fans.  Fuck the Media!  There, I can say it now.

I was in Cleveland when the Dog Pound started throwing the beer bottles.

For the record, I was not at the stadium.  I probably would have been throwing the bottles if I would have been... crappy calls.
