Title: Idiocracy in action
Post by: Lucifer on February 14, 2020, 05:18:24 PM

When you think you're so damn funny.

https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/the-testing-center-has-accused-me-of-cheating-on-my-ir-written.124383/

 What a fuckin' moron.

Agree, that was a moronic thing to post. However the testing contractor is moronic too for taking it seriously and not just reviewing camera footage before calling in the FAA. Stupidity all around.

A testing center has to follow very specific guidelines, or risk losing their designation.

What that idiot did was absolutely stupid.

Social media is very dangerous. This is why I don’t post anything except the most innocuous occasional statement in FB anymore.

Got rid of facebook a decade ago, don't need it, don't care, and nobody really cares if/when I scratch my ass anyway.

Edit: It's all just an ego grab anyway. "Look at my fabulous new car", "Look at my fab vacation." Constantly comparing yourself to others is a bad way to live as you'll always come up short and thus feel badly about yourself. Be blessed and content with what you have, and always strive forward.

Got rid of facebook a decade ago, don't need it, don't care, and nobody really cares if/when I scratch my ass anyway.

I've never had a FB account, nor Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.  I'm not bragging, as I am sure it is useful for many people to keep up with kids, grandkids, and family and friends in general.  I can see the value, but I also see the pitfalls of broadcasting personal info to the universe.

It seems Social Media has heightened the narcissistic element of many individuals into thinking their every movement needs to be photographed, filmed and put on the internet.  I went to a family gathering recently and two minutes after we sat down to eat, one of my female cousins already had it on FB for the world to see.  Now who the EFF cares about a bunch of people having freaking lunch?

Are people that desperate to feel self important or do they think they matter in the grand scheme of the Universe to make them constantly say "look at me!"?  I just don't get it.

Lots of stories about people going bankrupt because they have spent everything they have and gone into massive debt traveling the world to get the "perfect selfie" somewhere exotic to post on social media.

Then you have the idiots that have to get that perfect shot, and end up either dead or permanently disabled.

No thanks.  I enjoy my privacy, and don't need it.  I don't care what someone had to eat, or anything else they feel they need to advertise to the world.

Bryan's hobby is making funny videos, and in person he's a pretty funny guy.  Perhaps it was one joke too far, perhaps he's' having a laugh on POA.  I don't know.  He's already had the local FSDO investigate him based on one of his videos.

Yes, like Michael, Bryan is a good guy to hang out with in person. Believe it or not.   ???

Because really, we're supposed to have freedom of speech.  That, and Bryan described his interactions with the FSDO folks after his incident.  His description made it sound like a positive event that he was glad happened.

Please, go read up on the first amendment before making such ludicrous remarks.

Free speech has consequences.

Quote
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

OK, so you believe that the first amendment gives you or anyone the right to use free speech in a malicious manner?

Free speech has consequences.

Yes.  If you incite a riot by using speech, and people die from being trampled, or whatever, you can be held accountable.  Yes, you are free to say something, but there may be consequences based on the OUTCOME of that speech.

Exactly.  The state can't restrict your speech except in certain circumstances.  However, the people around you may strongly object to what you're saying.  That's fine, but I also expect the state to take action if those people escalate their free speech into violence.  Too often we see that the state does not when the violence is against conservatives.

True, or worse, the left regularly and consistently equate “hate speech” (whatever that is) with violence, and feels justified with using violence to stop “violent” speech.

I despise the concept of hate speech and hate crimes.  Our oppressive government can define anything they want as either of them to illegally suppress Free Speech, and Free Expression.

A crime is a crime.  If it is premeditated for any reason, it should and does carry stiffer penalties.

So free speech is still safe on an individual level, eh?

https://bigleaguepolitics.com/court-rules-against-professor-who-refused-to-call-transgender-student-by-their-preferred-pronouns/

A court has determined that an Ohio college professor does not have the free speech in the classroom to decline a request to refer to a transgender student by their preferred pronoun.

While a student on campus may have free speech, a state employee on a state campus in front of a class doesn't have these same freedoms.  Outside of class on their own time not representing the school, OK.  Each year I have to undergo training on what is and what is not allowed as a state employee.

Yup.  We are all constrained in our speech by our employers.  The First Amendment only refers to what the government may or may not do.

What does your contract say? In the case of McAdams vs Marquette University, a professor was kicked out for something he wrote on a blog, but his contract had a guarantee of academic freedom - presumably in regard to making tenure meaningful.

One case summary: https://reason.com/2018/07/06/marquette-university-breached-its-contra/ (https://reason.com/2018/07/06/marquette-university-breached-its-contra/)

“Though Marquette is a private, Roman Catholic institution not bound by the First Amendment, the university promises faculty "the full and free enjoyment of legitimate personal or academic freedoms," and it explicitly guarantees that "dismissal will not be used to restrain faculty members in their exercise of academic freedom of other rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution."”

I'm free to pursue any line of research I like.  For tenure they checked the quality and quantity of publications, and that's it.  An "A" journal in any field is an "A" for tenure and beyond.  Which is good since I publish WAY outside the norm of my college.

HOWEVER, as a state employee I'm not allowed to stick a Trump sign in my office window, do any campaigning on campus, and so on.  Here on my own time, on my personally owned computer, using NO university resources I can say what I want.
