Title: The new normal
Post by: President-Elect Bob Noel on March 25, 2020, 08:21:13 AM
So, given all the shutdown, social distancing, etc etc etc, will this all get repeated when flu season hits October-ish?

If not, why not?

Depends.  If Trump is on his way to a landslide re-election, yes, absolutely.   If we get a leftist progressive back in the WH, then the MSM will silence any mention of a virus (see H1N1, 2009).

The dems have just added a new chapter to the playbook, and their loyal MSM will now use this when it fits their agenda.

I've made this argument on several different boards/lists, and I get:

The flu isn't as contagious
The flu isn't as deadly
The flu isn't exponential

yada yada yada

Did they give any source for their claims?

edit:  Johns Hopkins has a page or two discussing the similarities and differences between the flu and COVID-19.  Unfortunately, no sources are capturing the number of people that have recovered from COVID-19 illness.  Nor are sources doing much to document the fatality rate of COVID-19.

No sources needed when being used as propaganda to incite fear and chaos.   I mean, would anyone in the MSM lie?

https://www.cjr.org/analysis/journalism-stimulus.php

Quote
To support that work, we need a journalism stimulus now. Free Press is asking for at least $5 billion in emergency funds right away—which would be less than half of one percent of a trillion-dollar recovery package—and that Congress put a foundation in place to help sustain journalism over the long term.

A journalism-recovery package should include:

Doubling federal funds for public media. After decades of trailing behind leading democracies in support of public media, over the next two years, Congress should double the annual federal appropriations for public media. This would amount to an additional $930 million.

People need trustworthy news and information that isn’t hidden behind a paywall and more educational resources for kids who will be home from school for the foreseeable future. This money isn’t for Downton Abbey reruns. It should be earmarked specifically for emergency support, education, and especially local journalism.

The House Democratic version of the recovery bill reportedly includes $300 million for public media, mostly devoted to station operations to keep struggling stations in underserved areas on the air. Community stations should be a priority for this spending, particularly in places where other journalism outlets have disappeared and public and community media might be the only sources of news.

California offers a model for what additional needed investments might look like. The Los Angeles Unified School District teamed up with PBS SoCal/KCET to offer instruction over the airwaves while kids are out of school, with separate channels focused on different ages. We should be doing this everywhere, for children in preschool through high school. To help make that happen, Congress should appropriate at least $200 million to bolster and expand public media’s “Ready to Learn” initiative or similar programs to cover all school-aged children.

^^^^^This.  It is up to the American people to vote for Trump and vote out Democrats in the House and Senate.  This is treasonous.

Referring to the title of the thread, does anyone else hate the phrase "The new normal".  I'm starting to hate it almost as much as  "this" http://www.pilotspin.com/index.php?topic=4129.msg71409#msg71409 (http://www.pilotspin.com/index.php?topic=4129.msg71409#msg71409)!  I read an article that said this is the "new normal", but the article ended up talking about when things get "back to normal".  Well, if things are going to go back to "normal" then why call this normal.  What we are living in now is abnormal.

(my senility is showing.  I can't figure out how to turn "this" into a hyperlink.  I hope this isn't the new normal for me!)

Because:

1.  They HATE Trump.
2.  They want to continue this as long as possible because, see above.
3.  They hate Trump so much they are willing to crash the economy and for people to suffer.

Bill Maher admitted this openly on national television.  He is typical of them.

Yes, I remember that, but it has been obvious for several months. actually over a year when the Media and Democrats have been talking up Recession.  Now, they've created one.  They don't want things to start returning to normal too soon as they know the economy will rebound.  They need this to last at least until September, or so.
