I could swear that at one time a MC member stated something along the lines of aviation related subjects which incidentally touch on government policies are allowed. Does anyone else remember that? The argument whether to allow politics related to aviation has been a constant one across all the boards ever since the AOPA board banned politics. Then of course it followed into the PoA board which was created specifically to include the spin zone and then of course went down the same censorship road itself. I don’t recall allowing politics related to aviation ever being codified in writing, but has sometimes been tolerated case by case.
We have to keep in mind the overall background of Internet forums which grew from infancy during the same two decades after 9/11. I first joined them in 1998 or 1999. I might have still been on dialup. I doubt there was much aviation forum activity prior to that. So that’s a mere couple of years without being in a post 9/11 world.
9/11 had a major impact on aviation both commercial and GA and nearly all of that impact was political. You couldn’t discuss it without discussing politics. Indeed that has been the biggest argument for allowing politics, even if the subject isn’t directly related to aviation, the broad subject of which party is in charge ultimately affects our aviating activities even if indirectly.
But the tension on the boards at the point where politics directly affects aviation has been there ever since political talk was banned with the moderators skirting the line, sometimes allowing it, then ultimately shutting it down when it gets too feisty.

I can't remember the last time I was over there, but may I remind you Pilot Spin was created as an off site Spin Zone SPECIFICALLY FOR POA. So people here had a vested interest. Also, there used to be a link there you could click on to get here!
Most of the people here were on POA the first day and for many years until it changed to Occupied Communist Territory, so maybe give folks a break unless you come here just to get off on trying to call people out. If that's the case, have fun!

The really sad thing is POA was created for the Spin Zone, and it was a huge success. The Spin Zone itself accounted for a third of the POA message traffic by my estimation. The biggest advantage was if any post got political it could just be dumped in the Spin Zone, and didn't have to be closed. The moderators didn't like it because it did get contentious and make more work for them. Says me too bad, if the Mods don't like it get new ones who are up to the task. Instead they binned it. In so doing they diminished POA.I checked my account over there today - first time I’ve looked at it in years. I have over 13,000 posts on POA. Almost 100% more than my mere 7,000 posts here since I joined in 2015.

I met Scott in person. Really nice guy.I met him at a POA fly-in/drive-in (due to Wx) at the Janesville, WI airport diner 10 years ago or so. Seemed like an ok guy, but he kept bugging me to be a safety pilot for him, and I felt he was a guy that I had no interest in flying with from a safety perspective.
