I'm right there with you. I was never a huge media or sports watching guy but did partake a bit. No more NFL or NCAA. (Never watched NBA or MLB). I haven't watched newer programming nor movies in years. Most media is Leftist propaganda. I think the local news is the worst. I will only briefly view it to see what the enemy is saying today and what they want the useful idiots to believe.

If you have to go out in public you should wear as sturdy a mask as you can procure. Even a few layers of cloth held on by rubber bands is better than nothing. We're in a war, but the enemy doesn't have tanks, or airplanes or bombs. The enemy is an invisible virus that can do untold harm to our bodies. Our only defense against it is to try and break the cycle of infection. A sturdy mask can help to do that. Social distancing can help more.

Your hyperbole is exactly correct. We're in a fight, some of us for our lives. And yes, a mask is a very good idea, not for identification, but to try and prevent viral spread. They aren't foolproof, but any mask is far far better than no mask.

I don’t agree with Steingar, but when YOU make a claim YOU are expected to provide the citations. The same of course applies to Steingar, who is expected to provide citations to back his claims. Neither of you have done this.
Several poster in past discussions have already posted citations to studies on the effectiveness of masks. Rush posted a very interesting one. I know it takes real effort to track them down, but if the discussion is about mask effectiveness on virus transmission, the most relevant studies would appear to be those that performed experiments specifically on viral transmission. Most didn’t do that.
But the science of mask effectiveness is distinct from freedom of choice. People who don’t pilot small planes are less likely to die in them. People who authorize Do Not Resuscitate are allowing themselves to die when they could have a small chance of extending their lives, yet both dangers are allowed under freedom of choice.
Treating everyone as if they are disease carriers and curtailing their freedom of choice on those grounds is ethically identical to treating everyone as already guilty of a crime and punishing them.
