The point, which I thought was obvious, is that Biden is breaking 87 years of history by not having a live speech in January or February, and NO ONE in the MSM appears to have noticed.

We jest, but I absolutely think this is part of their calculus - figuring out how they can get The Original Superspreader (love that!) to give the speech. “Progressive President Biden breaks the glass ceiling; gives Black Vice President opportunity to be on national stage.”
Another option is, in the interest of Covid dontcha know, to RECORD the speech for TV, with selective editing and canned applause. I shit you not. The Wisconsin Governor recorded and played his State of the State address last week doing just that (but without the canned applause.)

Delivered on February 28, 2017, the speech was not officially deemed a "State of the Union address"; like the freshman addresses of President George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama, President Trump treated this speech as simply an "Address to a Joint Session of Congress."

The convention is that a newly inaugurated president only gives an address to a joint session of Congress, and it’s not deemed to be a SOTU. I’m 60 and have heard them all since 1980 and can’t differentiate between them. Seems like a distinction without a difference.
