I had to commit an apparent federal crime in order for the AI to accept my Medicare application. To apply for Medicare online you have to answer questions and if you don't do it right it will not allow you to proceed.
- Are you covered under a group health plan? Yes or No. I said "Yes". Because I am.
- Is the Group Health Plan under your own current employment? Yes or No. Since I am retired, not currently employed, I said "No." My coverage is under the retirement pension plan. That's not "current" employment.
- Is the Group Health Plan under a spouse's employment? No.
ERROR ERROR ERROR!!!!! Red X's everywhere and scolding verbiage. I must choose either my own or my spouse's "current" employment.
So I called up the local SS office and waited until I could talk to someone, asked them what to do and they said, "Say 'No'. That's just for special enrollment later if you continue working past age 65. When you sign up during the initial enrollment period they don't care about your coverage."
So, I went back (after having to find a special secret "re-entry number" to get back to my application) and I edited it to say:
- Are you covered under a group health plan? Yes or No. NO!
Then it allowed me to proceed. Surprise, a space to type any clarifying remarks. Oh yes. Actually I AM covered under a group health plan you idiots but your stupid software forced me to lie to you in order to process the application.
Down at the bottom where you submit it you have to check where it says, "Telling us anything false on this form is a federal crime." Well it is false that I do not have group health coverage.
So there you have it. I expect the FBI to raid my home at about 4:00 am tomorrow morning with a CNN crew, because I have been a registered Republican at some point in the past.
