Title: Another POA deletion
Post by: Rush on September 15, 2021, 05:01:38 PM
In the 800 people thread someone linked to this story and commented that it looks like the Taliban has already started fighting amongst themselves.  After I got back from reading the link, the post had vanished.  I forgot who posted it and maybe they deleted it but I doubt it. Why would they? Had to be management for some reason we can’t mention that the Taliban is handling things badly? That’s not arguing politics.

And who knows with the loopy MC over there.

Well technically all political subjects, especially those not aviation related, are prohibited in PoA. Agreed about the decreasing quality of moderation by the MC there.

Cool, another U of M physics alumni!
Welcome to Pilot Spin!
It gets rather ugly here at times, but that just adds to the forum’s charm.  ;)

On the Purple Board, we have a long running thread on COVID. Eman1200 on PoA comes and posts in that thread quite frequently since he can't pot about it on PoA.

FYI, Peter was recently "ejected" from POA.
That should earn him a few points here, although honestly, I'm not sure what his political persuasion is.

Interesting.

Well, not interesting, but it does illustrate the problems with POA MC members.

They are rather upset with me for using the full name of one of the members over there. I have asked the MC for clarification but was apparently given more points and a one week ban for asking!

Welcome Peter, we look forward to your participation.  And sorry for the childish behavior of the PoA MC.

We have an aviation forum here as well, so please feel free to post anywhere in the forum, and we zero moderation.

The pussy mods over at POA are avowed assholes, allowing only opinions they approve of.

Fuck 'em and the horse they rode on.

Welcome where your opinions are yours and not subject to approval from assholes.

Ah, I was wondering what on earth you did, I don’t recall you being a particularly out of control poster.

Thanks, I try to keep my posting on public forums respectful and objective.

I try and avoid all name calling and frankly have a simple policy of just blocking all people who start to do so. I have found that they almost never respond to even a gentle reminder that this is a logical fallacy and not really a good idea when you aren't speaking in person to people.

I hope people will find that I may at times have unpopular opinions, but I try and present them in a civil manner, even if logically the points are fairly crisp.

If you happen to post something that does not sit well with some others here, expect to be told so in a not-so-civil manner, and since there is no moderation, you will probably be called names like "pathetic" "pussy" "communist" etc.  Just let it roll off.  The most interesting conversations happen when someone disagrees with the majority.
Title: Re: Another POA deletion

Thanks for warning Little Joe. I think that sort of name calling is very inappropriate in most cases and so will likely be following my normal policy on unmoderated forums. Which is an immediate block. I just don't have time for it when it devolves to that point.

I agree completely that the most interesting discussions occur when people disagree with the majority. I just think that discussion can be conducted in a civil manner and that really that is the only way that people of differing opinions can meaningfully try and understand one another.

We’ll see what their response is in a week. I always hope for people to be rational and probably persist in that sort of belief to a fault.

Thanks Jim. What year did you graduate? I graduated with a BS Physics from the then IT in 1987.

I also got my degree in the Institute of Technology rather than the College of Liberal Arts. My freshman year was 1974. I graduated in 1992. So a tad over 4 years.  ;D

I dropped out in 1976 to make money at freelance programming the new-fangled microcomputers that were coming out. But after a few years I realized I really wanted to get the degree so finally started taking classes when I could and got it done. I’d have to go look over my old transcripts to see if I was taking any classes during the years you were likely there, but I’m currently traveling to a niece’s wedding so can’t check.

I have to wonder if we had some overlap. I was a sophomore there starting in 1979 but also get distracted by founding a local company called Steinmetz & Brown, Ltd. We did microcontrollers and custom programming. We were based in the Hubbard Building right next to KSTP up the hill from the U.

It's fun to watch the rumor mill on PoA twist and turn.  Also amusing to watch those who disagree invent creative ways to attack posters (PoA) as a way to justify their views.

I have no idea who he is.  I must be missing something too because I don’t get the R&W reference. Maybe I’m not paying enough attention on that board.

Pretty sure he was Rotor & Wing, then changed to Doc Holiday for some reason; the authoritarian know it all who posted like he used to be FAA.
