2 fatal, rip.

N628RS

Evidently non instrument rated and using a special VFR clearance.

As @Steingar has noted on TOF, lots of places to land nearby, so a real pity.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been too busy to post about it. I keep my Navion at Waukesha (KUES). I checked with my friends when this happened and no one knew anything about it. I checked the METARs and ceilings were 400-800’. I just assumed the pilot was instrument rated.  I’m sorry, SVFR on a long-distance flight and not being IR is stupid as fuck.

Both are being remembered by neighbors here who are extremely thankful for whatever the pilot did to avoid hitting these homes.

Uh, nope. But I’m fine with letting the neighbors think that.

Did he perhaps think the bad weather was localized and he could get out from under it? Agreed a very risky thing to do.

I think a lot of VFR only pilots seriously under estimate just how quickly you will become disoriented and crash.

As a flight instructor for the last 40 some years I agree with that!

I wonder if she had breast cancer. She’s got a little left arm edema going on there.

What I recall about that part of the nation is lots of smooth fields and way, way too many "Wau"s.  Waukesha, Waukeegan, Wautoma, Waupaka and more.

Hey hey!  Never too many. I fly out of Waukesha, I work in Wauwatosa, and fly to Wausau, Waupaca. Never been to Wautoma or Waupun. Been to Waunakee, and we fly to the annual airshow in Waukegan, but Waukegan is in the People’s Republic of Illinois.

And people make fun of Atlanta with all of their "Peachtree" streets.
