"Those who love radial engines never tried to make a living with one."    ;)

Definitely true in my case.

I love the sound of a radial engine!  I run outside every time I hear one.  Most of the time it's a Harley a few blocks over.  But sometimes I'm rewarded with a T6 flying by.  Yeah, I'd like to have one someday.  Oil everywhere, exhaust billowing, cylinders deciding if they want to fire this time or not.  Poetry!!

I'd love to hear the story behind this...

No story, other than I’ve never had a job involving radial engines.  And I like them… from a safe distance.

Love the sound and look!  I see them almost every year as the Reading airport (KRDG) has a WWII weekend and always has some B-25's, B-17's, Hellcats, Wildcats, etc.  When I was based at New Garden, N57, Lex Dupont (yes that Dupont) owned an antique aircraft museum on the field and would fly his Grumman Wildcat pretty regularly and New Garden also hosts an airshow which brings the radials.  I'd talk to him when we'd both be refueling at the pumps.  I still had the Cherokee then.  His wife would drive up in their Chauffeured Rolls Royce (older classic model) and her little Italian Greyhound would always run over to me.  They were very nice to me, a peasant, you know.

I think I have a picture of me standing next to that plane!  We used to fly into New Garden.  Damn, I need to dig through my boxes of old photos now….

LOL!  They're flying the Space Shuttle also.  Renamed the Confederate Air Force as God intended plus all the planes now proudly display the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.

We have four T-6/SNJ/Harvards, three Stearmans, and one T-28 based at our airport.  I live 9nm from the airport, so I know when my friends are flying if I’m at home.

Exactly. The Wisconsin Wing of the CAF is looking to get an KC-97 with the confederate battle flag on it.

Let's say someone would like a relatively modern, low-wing, radial engine family traveling machine.  I can find only one: the Spartan Executive.  All the others are rag-wing, or high-wing like the Cessna 195.  Or rag-wing with both a high and low wing. Looking for low-wing only because it will fit in the hangar overlapping with the high-wing that's in the hangar already.  Asking for a friend.

With a total of 36 built, I'd imagine any survivors are very very expensive.

It would be north of $500,000 by now I imagine.

Get a Beech Staggerwing and cut off the spare wing on the top.
