Title: Simple Pleasures
Post by: Anthony on June 25, 2022, 04:04:45 PM
So we bitch a lot because we have REASONS to, regarding the direction of the U.S. and world.  So maybe we can talk about the good things in life.  Not our Ferrari's, Gulfstreams, Island homes, etc....  lol!!!!

Just got off my lawn tractor, a 37 y.o. Wheel Horse, did my yard work in 90 degree heat,  but had a good time.  Now relaxing with a Peroni Nastro Azzurro beer and smoking a Diesel brand cigar.   Later I will try the Evan Williams small batch Bourbon I just bought thanks to a suggest here.   I'll think of who made the suggestion soon and thank him as I bet it's good and it was reasonably priced.  Life is good.

So what's your simple pleasures?

Won't have to mow for a bit, everything is dry, dry, dry.
I enjoy working on things. I have a leaf blower I need to finish up. It was left laying outside for some time in back of a neighbors house. She passed recently and I saw it and grabbed it before it ended up in the dumpster.

Like electronic projects also.

Just got back from the next door neighbor’s 50th birthday party.  He played in a band they had set up outside and they served something called “links” which is like a fat sausage smothered in BBQ sauce on a hot dog bun, and cupcakes.  Hot but we sat in the shade and there was a very nice breeze.  Wonderful neighbors whom we love.

Also dry here, we need rain bad.

Yeah, leaf blowers. We have bird feeders filled with sunflower seeds.  Really, to feed the squirrels and they entertain the dogs.  Using a leaf blower to blow the seed shells off the deck is oddly satisfying.

That and hanging out at the airport watching the planes go by and polishing the 170.

“Oddly satisfying” resonates with me. Grinding lemon rinds in the garbage disposal. Draping laundry around outside on a sunny day to dry, using no electricity.

Simple meals. Early morning walks. Reading. Day trips, exploring nearby rural areas.

We live on a bluff overlooking the airport so we watch planes all the time. Especially when we’re chilling on the patio. With wine or margaritas, or our current favorite, the French 75 cocktail. Coffee on the patio is nice too.

Currently a biplane is in the pattern, and my husband says it’s a Stearman, kept by the local aviation museum people.

My friend’s nephew was accepted into the Naval Academy and began his stint as a summer plebe yesterday.

Good, all good.

So what's your simple pleasures?

if you are a target shooter, having the perfect sight picture, followed by the perfect trigger pull, resulting in an X.

(sometimes followed by the line from "Bull Durham":  "That was beautiful.  How did I do that?")

Yeah, I belong to a gun club and target shoot regularly.  So, that's an excellent one as are good groups with my AR, CZ's etc.

Still stuck in the 60-70s as far as music is concerned, which is good and one of my pleasures. Still trying to play geetar after these years (started in ‘67, layoff for 50 years for life). 74 in a month or so and still instructing and enjoying helping people to pursue their flying dreams. When I was 72 had another 72 finally get his Private after he had 2-3 failed check rides trying over the years and now owns a late model 182 w/G1000. Still a thrill getting out of the plane for their First Solo. Reading a pleasure, mostly history especially military history. Mowing the lawn 😳 I actually enjoy, although 90+ weather makes it a challenge sometimes. Coffee in the morning with quiet for a couple hours until wife arises (early riser). Few other things but that’s most of it.

another pleasure... but may not qualify as simple:

completing a woodworking project.

Doing hands-on work was an especially pleasurable diversion when I was working as a systems engineer.
