I’ll be there from the 21st through the 31st doing Flightline Ops marshaling aircraft off the runways onto the taxiways. Read the NOTAM!  (I refuse to call it the Notice.). Make your signage clear, and do not, for all that is holy, think that marshalers can read your iPad through the window. We cannot.

If you see me, give me a wave. I’ll be playing in traffic.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220702/8ee26733f63df64f2299e27f0ba76e44.jpg)

One of my more memorable shifts - an F/A-18 Super Hornet taking off for the night airshow. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220702/5262274e63b2c12539f6550889a6a924.jpg)

There is one that was at OSH last year or 2019  and was for sale.

I had to delay my trip until tomorrow but I’ll find out.

Some fucking cunt put up their campsite right on top of me. When I put my stairs down, it's on the line they staked out. Supposed to have 20 feet wide. I have 10 now. As soon as this storm is over security is getting a call.

And I did have my site staked, but removed them earlier today. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it back before the storm and didn't want anything possibly flying around. Didn't think someone would think that putting a tent right on top of someones camper was a good idea, but alas, people are stupid.

Yesterday they were landing on 27 yesterday with a quartering tailwind. I saw a pretty yellow Waco ground loop on 27. Minimal wing damage.

That sucks no matter what. Saw a jet (cant remember which type) have to do a go around because a 195 couldn't follow directions. Then there was 3 go arounds in about 30 seconds. It's sporty out there.

Their costs have almost doubled.  Thank the Elites who are making this happen.  Remember, they don't care about everyday costs. The can more than afford it. These Royals need to swing.

The hubris of these people. It’s very deliberate. They don’t even try to hide it anymore.  Which one was it who recently said the country needs to experience this pain (of high gas prices) so that those of us who can afford electric vehicles can benefit.  I posted it somewhere here recently.  I couldn’t believe my ears.

Pete Buttigieg. Biden also said something similar. They are hurting the working poor and middle income earner the most who largely live paycheck to paycheck and now have to decide between paying their rent or mortgage and buying food and gasoline to get to work.

Lets no forget EAA and their infinite greed. No doubt they are demanding a larger cut from the vendors this year to make up from lost revenue because of "covid".
Title: Re: OshKosh 2022
Post by: Dweyant on July 28, 2022, 06:43:09 AM
EAA has also moved the fence farther out at the front.  It sure looks like they did it to make it much harder to walk out the gate to buy the MUCH cheaper drinks from the house just outside.  Now they won’t let you go out that gate on foot.  You have to walk WAY around to get back to them

This is no different from any other carnival, and that’s what it is, a carnival.

I stopped going to these years ago.  Same shit, different year.  Watch the same boring routines, vendors hawking their overpriced wares, and so so food at exorbitant prices.

Have fun, but it’s not for me.

The night airshow sucked. Same boring routines, same boring music. It's night, after a long day. Pump that shit up. I fell asleep for a bit. I know from comments around me others weren't happy with the quality of the night airshow. I barely watch the day airshow anymore as it is.

I agree with Josh. Not just the night airshow, but every airshow was slow and disjointed. I think there’s some real problems with the EAA. As you know, I’m enmeshed in the warbird community, and in prior years, my T-6 buddies and jet Warbird buddies flew at least twice if not 3 times during the week. This year, except for a few chosen T-6s, the only day the T-6s flew was Tuesday.  In prior years, they flew Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

My friend flew in the four-ship formation of two T-33s and two Marchetti jets. I think the Air Boss kept them flying a racetrack pattern at 1,500 AGL. What the fuck?  Who can see them?  He also flies an F-86 Sabre and has a 200’ card, but the Air Boss kept them where no one can see them.

I don’t know if Pelton or the EAA board hate warbirds, but they are being given the short end of the stick by EAA.

I guarantee you that at least 50% of the attendees come to see loud warbirds, yet warbirds are being given a diminished role. I know some operators who aren’t even bothering to come any more.

For me and the rest of us in Warbirds camping, Oshkosh is more about connecting with friends, volunteering, and being our own community separate from EAA, which is unfortunate.

I’ll add some pics, but here’s one. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220801/610596fa4c9d04cec3f3793bb7f06517.jpg)

I was there Monday and Wednesday.  All the usual things were there and it was fun to see the commercial displays, the static aircraft displays, drool over the vintage aircraft, and look with wonder at the Warbirds.  The airshow has always been secondary to the aircraft and reconnecting with friends.  But yes, the airshow was just not interesting.  I can appreciate the tremendous skill of flying a precise aerobatic display.  But there's only so many times I can see a Pitts or Extra routine.  YES!  Give me a mass warbird display.  Loud and low.  The U2 was an unexpected treat.

Does EAA pay for warbird fuel?  That might be a reason for cutting back.

Yes, if you fly in a show, EAA pays for your gas, but only if you have a commercial certificate and a 2nd class medical or better. I think they pay for some to fly in and remain static, but I’d have to confirm that.

Thanks. I’m wearing the orange shirt and the tan Nomex in the pics.

The guy next to me in the maroon shirt is, I kid you not, 75, flew KC-135s out of Guam and Thailand during Vietnam into the Gulf of Tonkin,  flew tankers for SAC as active duty and in the ANG, retired as a United captain flying 727, 737, 757 (his favorite Boeing), and 767.  Oh, and he played football for Ohio State. He’s a good friend and is also my warbird mentor, and taught me to fly the Fairchild PT-26. He’s owned a Harvard and a DeHavilland Chipmunk for 30 years, and is active in NATA formation clinics.
