From my experience they constantly have hosting problems.   Give it a day or two and it’s back.

Thanks, I am concluding I can do nothing about it except wait.  But I am impatient.

Lucifer is correct. The same thing happened about 6 months ago or so. It was back on in a couple of days.

Is there a specific accident/incident that you are concerned about?  Richard McSpadden’s AOPA Air Safety Institute has started getting much more current information about incidents which I find very helpful.

Full disclosure:  Richard was my Navion transition instructor and is also one of the nicest guys in the world. I’m proud to have his signature in my logbook.

I wanted to check the one where the copilot “jumped”(?) out near RDU.

Quote
Pilot (P): "Raleigh Approach, Shady 02."
Raleigh Approach (RA): "Shady 02, Raleigh"
P: "My co-pilot just ran out the back of the plane."
RA: "Shady 02, what now?"
P: "He just ran out the back of the plane."
RA: "So you don't have a co-pilot on you, sir?"
P: "No, he just jumped out the back of the plane."
RA: "Uh, roger."
P: "Would you like me to circle where he leapt at?"
RA: "Uh, say that again?"
P: "Would you like me to circle where he got out at, or you got me on track?"
RA: "We've still got you on track, but did you need something else?"
P: "No, the dude literally jumped out the back of the plane without a parachute."
*Seven seconds of total silence*
RA: "Shady 02, did you need to do something else, circle or something, or-"
P: "No, I need to land. I'm just making you aware you're gonna have a dead body out where I just called you at. He just jumped out the back of the plane."
RA: "Roger, continue on your heading 0-5-0."
P: "Roger, 0-5-0, 0-2."

Thanks!  I had found that online at an unverified source but it looks real from that source.  Sounded real anyway.  So the initial media reports about “jumped” were correct, surprisingly.  Or at least that’s what the pilot claims.  I don’t happen to believe he pushed him out and lied about it, but who knows?

It would take a great deal of trust in your autopilot to leave your pilot’s seat and throw a copilot overboard while on final approach into an airport.

Occam’s Razor says that is not likely.

Agree but they weren’t on final approach.

Agree.  But all you have to do is open the back door and pitch up.  Unwanted cargo slides right out.  Not saying that's what happened, but why not have some sort of harness on just in case?

I didn’t say they were on final approach.  But they were talking to RDU Approach, and were on the heading of 050, and RDU has a 05L and 05R. I think it’s fair to assume they were on either an approach or a straight in visual, even if they were 10+ miles out and probably descending.

I think they were talking to Fayetteville Approach first when they reported the gear problem.  The RDU tower was the second recording and he was given the heading of 050 at that time, I don’t think they were on that heading straight in when the guy deplaned.  That location was pretty due south of the airport. By the time he was given the heading he had progressed a bit west and then could turn to line up with the runway.  Although yes they were probably descending.  I’m going from memory here as I’m too lazy busy with work to go back and look up the track and stuff.

Yes, unless I’m wrong the back ramp opens via controls in the cockpit but the side doors open manually.  If for some reason the copilot had gone to the back and was not tethered and why would he be if all doors were shut, the pilot could have opened the back and pitched up thus dumping him out.  Somehow I doubt that’s what happened.
