Title: Bill O'Reilly Attacks George Will
Post by: nddons on November 07, 2015, 06:50:56 AM
My jaw dropped watching this exchange on O'Reilly's show last night.

http://dailycaller.com/2015/11/07/bill-oreilly-slams-george-will-youre-a-hack-video/

George Will wrote a column entitled "Bill O'Reilly Slanders Ronald Reagan" about his "Killing Reagan" book.

So O'Reilly gets Will on his show and says that Will has libeled O'Reilly, and calls Will a "hack" among other things.

I dislike both men. O'Reilly is a bombastic, thin-skinned asshole, and Will is a mouthpiece for the GOP establishment.

But Will raised excellent points about O'Reilly's failure to interview many people who were there with Reagan, and other matters.

Will recently joined the Fox News team. I wonder how long that will last after this.

Will has been a Fox News contributor for at least a year...not particularly recent.

I call that recent, but it's not really relevant to the story.

O'Reilly accused Will of libel, and denigrated Will in every possible way.  It was stunning.

If I was Will, I'd give O'Reilly and Fox the finger and move on.

I don't like O'Reilly, but watched his show for his guests. But I think I'm going to free up that hour in my schedule from now on. I wonder how many other people will do the same thing.

I stopped watching Ted Baxter a year or two ago, the self-righteous bloviating was too much - I do tune in for Dennis Miller though.

Haven't watched Megyn Kelly since her dismal performance at the first GOP debate, and haven't watched Hannity for over a year.  Still go to Fox for news (along with the BBC) but just tired of being taken for granted and then crapped upon by the establishment which at this point definitely includes Fox which is the only national 'non-Liberal' news/media outlet.  The Five, Red Eye and Gutfeld are still fun to watch for entertaining opinion programming.

I don't always agree with George Will and he is definitely establishment, but I would probably side with him over Ted Baxter on basically any day ending in 'y' - in full disclosure, I did not see the exchange and have not watched any video of it.

I am not surprised that Will would vigorously defend Reagan, and I am not surprised that O'Reilly and his ghostwriter(s) would possibly get something wrong since it seems he is pumping out these books at an accelerated pace.

I don't always agree with Will either, but his opinions are universally thought through and carefully considered.  Certainly cannot say the same of O'Reilly.

Agreed completely. Example:  he likes a higher minimum wage "For the folks."  That's the extent of his justification of it.

My only exposure to Will is via Newsweek.  He was one of those writers who thought the more words he used the better his column.  To the point that many of his columns were just too difficult to figure out what he was getting at.

I always had the impression that he was trying to prove that he was the smartest guy in the room.

Agreed. Back when he ran Nightline, before Fox was born, I thought he was a breath of fresh air from the normal network news.  Now he's just a stale old guy with highbrow columns.

But kudos to him for tweaking O'Reilly to the point of being unhinged.

O'Reilly is another inside the NYC media bubble Progressive.  He is condescening, especially whe he refers to his audience as "The Folks" which is demeaning.  It means he is far superior, and knowledgeable about everything, more so than his viewers.  I do like Dennis Miller though, and would  prefer he was on for the entire hour instead of O'Reilly.

I think Megan Kelly should be pushing O'Reilly out of his time slot (and perhaps off the air) within the next couple of years.

Well, he's got to retire at some point also.  I lost a bit of respect for Megan Kelly in the way she conducted herself during the debate.  I getting very tired of "gotcha" politics.

Agreed. But she's much easier on the eyes than O'Reilly.  ;)

No question.  Fox has the best looking women in the news/opinion business.

This would be a fun thread in the "old" SZ. I remember Migaldi defending Rachel Maddow as being the "smartest" person on cable.  I guess that's all he could say, as she wasn't the most attractive person on cable.

If she was so smart, why did she support such stupid policies?
