Spin Zone / Re: a possible reason to vote for the donald?
« on: November 08, 2016, 04:40:15 AM »
Voting for Johnson gives you triple the power.

A vote for "Not Hillary" is a vote for Trump = 1
A vote for "Not Trump" is a vote for Hillary = 1
A vote for Johnson is a vote for Johnson = 1

Total:  3 votes!

It is because of this that the election commission has declared a Vote for Johnson to be a violation of election law.

Spin Zone / Re: 269-269 - who?
« on: November 03, 2016, 07:46:36 AM »
There's a legitimate scenario where the electoral vote will tie 269-269 - taking the current predicted map and flipping New Hampshire to red, which is actually reasonable because their last polling showed Trump +2.  If there is a tie, then the House of Representatives will elect the next president.  Each state delegation will get one vote and it takes 26 votes to win.  The state delegations are overwhelmingly republican, so in the event of a tie, a republican will win it.

But who would they elect?  I don't believe they would have to vote for Trump.  Pence seems reasonable.  Kasich?

Who would you suggest?

It's my understanding that the House of Representatives can only select from the top 3 electoral college vote recipients.

The media, including the "news", and network TV shows are going full bore against Trump.  It is vile crap, and shows just how corrupt the media, and the Democrats have become.  If Hillary steals this election we are going to have a revolt.

Hillary couldn't steal it as about the only GOP nominee who couldn't beat her is Trump.  That the media is making up false things about Trump is BS.  Name one thing?  It is Breitbart and that ilk that make up stuff.

Spin Zone / Re: Obama Will Bypass Senate
« on: August 31, 2016, 06:40:16 AM »
Actually, I don't think it matters.  The president can declare the treaty approved, but it would be just like declaring himself king of the golf course.  It doesn't make it so.

The first time the government tries to enforce it, the defence attorney asks "which senate action approved the treaty" and the whole thing goes down in flames.  We should not need to go this route but we do because Dems elected a pompous ass for a president who doesn't understand the country he's running.

OK, that's pretty funny.  Trump fans should find it funny too, but I haven't heard any reactions about his flip flop.

Look, Stan. Trump knows words, ok? He has the best words. And if in fact he did flip flop, which he didn't, it would be the best flip flop, and everyone would love it. And just to be clear, there is nothing wrong with his penis, either, and he can assure you of that.

Nonsense, he is very consistent, going back decades. Google old interviews, read his books. Same guy. Now he plays the crowd, but at least he doesn't change his accent to "good old boy" when talking to southerners.

Personality-wise he has been disturbingly consistent.  It is the policies/positions he changes somewhat more often then he changes his undies.

Spin Zone / Re: What is a "weapon of war"?
« on: August 13, 2016, 11:09:50 AM »
Yeah, sure, if you say so, but IMO, the pro gun movement (which I am a member) needs to be more honest than this. Those other characteristics are much more than "cosmetic". They are actual improvements in the weapon's effectiveness at killing people. At some point we need to change the conversation away from the "The AR-15 and other's like it is just the same as Grandpa's old gun" argument and towards the facts and the true meaning of the Constitution.

Fact- The AR-15 is nearly as good of a killing machine as the M-16. Automatic fire is used mostly for suppressing fire. More often than not, carefully aimed shots get the kill. Fact- The Constitution is about arming the people with the means to counter their government if need be. The AR-15 is a good match for the M-16. Fact- AR-15s and similar "assault rifles" are not used in many homicides, or gun crimes. Fact- Domestic terrorists can get easy access to the AR-15 and it's popular with them.

These are issues that need to be discussed. To say that the AR-15 is just a regular ol' gun, nuthin' to see here, move along... is disingenuous. It is not your grandpa's gun. Rather we should be emphasizing the reasons we should have the AR-15 and why a ban is not needed.

fact:  improvements made to the "AR-15" type platform have improved the reliability of the rifle, and accuracy.  (for example, adding weight helps in shooting competitions but those stock weights and forearm weights would never ever be added to an M-16 intended for combat).  (another example, match triggers are an improvement to the "AR-15" type platform but would not last long in combat conditions)

fact:  baseball bats are used more often than any form of AR-15 to kill and injure people.

fact:  My Bushmaster was designed to be an accurate rifle for shooting competitions.

fact:  Although millions and millions of firearms have been sold in the USA, gun deaths have remained relatively flat.  and the sad reality is that suicides make up about half of firearm deaths.

"Domestic terrorists can get easy access to the AR-15 and it's popular with them"  - well, to that I ask:  so what?  if the AR-15 wasn't available, domestic terrorists would use something else, like pressure cookers, pipe bombs, or box cutters.  Oh wait, they already have used those.  It is completely irrational to think that eliminating all AR-15s would stop domestics terrorism (or even slow it down).

I believe that it is NOT incumbent on gun owners to justify why we need any firearm.  I believe it is incumbent on the anti-gun <deleted> to justify restricting my constitutional rights.

I do agree honesty is needed in the discussion.  Sadly, honesty from the anti-gun crowd is rare.  and even more sadly, ignorance seems to be their preferred approach.

So why didn't the establishment GOP put forth an effort in the past 12 years to put in a candidate that could actually win an election?

You want to blame the voters for your continued butt hurt, but the reality is the GOP has failed miserably.

Keep making excuses for them and blame everyone else rather than finding a solution.
I'm starting to believe that you and your ilk have been RINOs from the very beginning, with faux anger towards the "establishment GOP" so that you can nominate a candidate who will do what you liberals have been unable to do - beat back every conservative movement possible, and advance a progressive agenda within the Republican Party.

Well played. But your over-the-top hatred of Ryan belies your love for a candidate who's conservative bonafides could fit in Paul Ryan's back pocket, they are so small.

I'll bet you disqualified Romney for not being "conservative enough" too, right?

Spin Zone / What the Republicans should do at this point. (IMO)
« on: August 07, 2016, 09:26:29 PM »
They should admit they have lost the White House this time around to themselves. It is unlikely Trump will win, but even if he does by some fluke, they need to distance themselves from him. At this point they should spend all their time, money and effort on winning as many of the down ticket elections as possible. The country will need them those senators and representatives to put the brakes on Hillary's plans and should the nut job Trump win, they need to keep him in check too although the Democrats will likely have that covered.

Basically the Republicans need to ignore him and let him do his own thing while they work on the important work. They need to deflect attention away from Trump and towards the more sane part of the party. They need to lay plans for 2020 and hope they will be around by then.

If a candidate really wanted to throw the election to the corrupt doormat, what more could be done than what the donald has done?

Ahhhhh......apparently your lack of humor clouds you from a sarcastic response.  Got it.

And this is the classic logical fallacy knows as oh-shit-he's-right-let-me-pretend-I-was-joking.
