Spin Zone / Re: Reasons to Vote for Trump
« on: June 14, 2016, 07:39:51 AM »
I kind of got lost in this thread. It's titled "Reasons to Vote for Trump", what are they again? The only solid one I can remember is "...because Hillary!"

I like that he is a capitalist, and not a Marxist like Hillary, Bernie, Obama, etc.  I like his position on job creation, and foreign markets, and trade.  I like his position on immigration, and actually knowing who we are letting in to this country.  We do not currently have borders, so we are not a country, but just a territory with free stuff for illegals, and Syrians.  I like his position on the 2A, and NOT blaming the legally owned gun, but blaming the criminals who commit the crimes.

Why is Trump's financial status so important while you liberals give Hillary a pass on all the money she has accumulated ILLEGALLY.  Did Trump take donations from enemy foreign countries and banks to undermine America?

It is fun to see all these conservative pundits who think they wield so much power behind the scenes and now have their heads spinning in their shoulders because they wield nothing.  Elitist pricks trying to subvert the very system they put together.  I still remember all the hoopla out of the gate at the first debate when everyone was asked to pinky swear and when Trump wouldn't you'd have thought the world was coming to an end.

I respectfully disagree that companies should pay any tax whatsoever.  Eliminate the business tax completely and watch the economy boom like never before.
Employees will make more money which, in turn, will bring more money into the coffers offsetting the elimination brought on by the lack of biz tax.

I see Colorado as the straw that broke the camels back.  Disenfranchising up to a million voters while the party bosses make their choice sends a bad message regardless of who the candidates are.

There is going to be considerable blow back from this event and not good for the GOP/RNC.

Isolationism never works. Oh yeah, when was the last time there was a war, a conflict, or a suicide attack in Switzerland?? A thousand years ago or something?
Switzerland is an interesting example.  They have a very fine defensive military.  All young men are required to serve.  Women are permitted to volunteer for any position.  One reason they have never been attacked is they have very mountainous borders that are custom made for the many anti tank ditches they build.

Since all young men are required to serve in the military, and all military personnel are required to keep their guns at home, Switzerland has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the world.  And when they exit the service, they are able to get a permit to keep their weapon.  But they do have to buy their own ammunition.

But you are correct that their non-interventionist philosophy is one reason they have not been attacked, along with the fact that they would be a formidable target.  Today's air power could change that, but their extremely business friendly environment with low taxes ensures that Countries that have the ability to attack by air also have huge corporations doing business there and have no reason to attack.

Low taxes; business friendly; extensively armed civilians; what's not to love.  And a dangerous place to attack; even by terrorists.

That was a good example you chose.  I mean that, but for a different reason that you may have intended.

Spin Zone / Re: Question for the Cruz supporters.

The saddest thing about the circular firing squad that is the republican party, is the unavoidable urge to attack anyone that might rock the boat. When every RINO in town, not to mention Mitch McConnell AND John Boehner hate you, you have truly earned my support.

It is pathetic, isn't it?  McConnell and Boehner are greater enemies to the Conservative movement than the entire Democrat party, as evidenced by their treatment of Cruz, their fight against Tea Party candidates who dared challenge GOP establishment incumbents, and their inability to advance conservative causes out of fear that they can't pander enough to make people like them.

I'd vote twice for Bozo "You don't say" Schultz before I'd cast a ballot for that criminal, carpetbagging, Mao-jacket wearing,  barking, coughing, cackling, cankley old harpy from Little Rock.

It may be, but I made that comparison on my own pretty early on.

Watch some of Hitler's speeches, and tell me if there's not at least some commonality with the brash, sweeping proclamations and the mocking tone.
Hitler was trying to rally the German population after losing and being humiliated after WWI. Hitler wanted to round up anyone who wasn't blonde haired and blue eyed (never mind Hitler was from Austria and was not blonde hair and blue eyed himself). Hitler blamed everything on the Jews and used that to fire up the people. Hitler was an evil, terrible person. There is no comparison between him and Trump. Sure, the optics don't look great when you have a crowd of people raising their right hands swearing allegiance to a candidate but I would not put that anywhere in the same book as Hitler.

I don't think it would look all that different.  Most of the manufacturing here is heavily automated.  The jobs the immigrants are doing are the jobs Americans won't.  The guys who painted my house were all immigrants, as were the dudes who put on my roof.  I asked both foremen why, they said they couldn't get Americans who would show up for work sober.  I've heard the same thing from every auto mechanic shop owner I've ever met.
Four guys are outside right now giving our lawn its yearly aerating and de-thatching.  All are white.  And we live in a county with a 50% Hispanic population.

The other day we had an electrical company come out.  The principal was Hispanic, the assistant white.

Our HVAC guy is white.  My mom's housecleaner is white.  The two guys who painted our house last summer are white.  We didn't all select for white, it just turned out that way.  So I have a little trouble accepting that whites don't want work.

While there should not be any expectation that all of the jobs outsourced would come back onshore 1 for 1, there certainly could be a meaningful amount returned. Also,  even though automation takes away a significant share of those jobs,  installation,  repair,  and maintenance of that machinery becomes a larger and larger market for job creation.  Again,  not 1 for 1, but it does help a bit.  If China, et al., suddenly have no one buying their products or using their cheap labor because the US brought jobs back home,  the dynamics of the Chinese currency and their economy will change drastically.  If the US and other developed nations were to start enforcing patent law in terms of economic sanctions,  China might be more inclined to play ball.

I would vote for anyone over Hillary.

A vote for Hillary is a vote for flushing what's left of the old USA down the toilet.

Right now I am in the Cruz camp.  I will vote for whomever wins the GOP nomination however, as I think another eight years of Obama will certainly destroy this country irreparably.

So what makes you think Trump will make it to the White House?  He is losing in nearly every poll to Hillary Clinton (RCP Clinton + 2.8), and his negatives are lodged at 58%.

Meanwhile Cruz beats Clinton (RCP Cruz + .8) and Rubio beats Clinton (RCP Rubio +4.7).

Did you watch the Chris Wallace interview that I posted here yesterday?  Tell me where he actually answered a question.

What troubles me is that you talk about the Cruz and Rubio schoolyard shenanigans, but never say the same thing or worse about Trump, and that's  consistent with all Trump supporters that I know.

Take any issue that I've posted here:  pro-eminent domain to give property to private owners, anti-First Amendment desire to "open up" the libel laws so he can sue people, and numerous other liberal positions, and I don't think I've received one post in defense of Trump. Not one. They have just been ignored.

But they will not go away.

I've heard that the dems are surfacing videos from Trump's appearances on the Howard Stern show, where he is rating women, saying "look at that face, she's only a 5" and "I'd do her".  I'll see if I can find that.  But how will that work with the "GOP war on women" narrative that is guaranteed to come out?
I am not a Trump supporter and feel no need to provide any defense.  I do find several positions he holds problematic although I think each of those issues have had more hay made about them than they deserve with respect to what it appears Trump's position actually is - bottom line is nobody in consideration is an ideal candidate, frankly none of them are even good candidates for a variety of reasons both political as well as personal.

WRT to national polling, it may or may not be accurate - the big unpredictable element is how a candidate Trump would campaign against Hillary (or Bernie), I believe scorched earth doesn't even begin to describe the withering assault I would expect a candidate Trump to unleash - if anyone can move the needle on Hillary (or Bernie) it is Trump, since the establishment has demonstrated again and again they are unwilling/incapable of actually taking it to the opposition - this belief I have by the way is one of the fundamental reasons that people who actively support Trump do so, in their own words - he takes no shit - we the people are tired of being shit on again and again by both parties and Trump is capitalizing on that (almost like he knows what he is doing).

WRT to shenanigans, the reason Trump folks call it out when others do it and not when he does is based on expectations I think more than anything - it is expected from Trump and is considered out of character for the Pols, that is also why they are so bad at it IMO.  He gets benefit of the doubt for his behavior in the same way Cruz is excused by his supoprters, and Rubio is excused by his supporters - there is zero difference there, it is pure human nature to support 'your guy'

WRT war on women trope, my belief is that like every other thing that was supposed to torpedo Trump's campaign, it is based on conventional beliefs, conventional experience and conventional assumptions which are inapplicable for Trump because unlike the other candidates (with notable exception of Dr. Carson) he is not a creation of the establishment or of the political media therefore neither can truly destroy him.  The bullshit identity politics victim card is overplayed and anyone trying to continue using it will be seen as, you guessed it a loser, a yuuuuuuge loooooser.

Trump is riding a populist groundswell that has not, in my opinion, even come close to its zenith - and the continued 'attacks' against him from the esablishment, the media and the Democrats will all only serve to continue to expand his support from the vast middle ground.  The consultant class has been telling both parties for decades that they can only win if they secure the middle, and that only they (the consultants) can help them - Trump is nuking that and that may be one of the best results of his involvement in this campaign season, but only if future candidates are taking notes.

Totally agree can't we say we are better than them and do thing the right way?

So when your kids get in trouble do you let them off becuase they tell you that everyone is doing it. Sure it is ok to cheat on the test everyone else did any ways.

This is a difficult one.  It's like when a football team cries foul when the refs enforce the rules, and then when it happens to the other team the same thing happens.  All I know is the Democrat/Liberal/Progressive have done a lot of wrong, and broken a lot of laws and rules because to them the ends justify the means.  They've made it an art form, and get away with it due to the complicity of the media, their partners in the Progressive agenda.
