Spin Zone / Oshkosh 2024
« on: July 18, 2024, 08:34:42 AM »
A little fun aviation to give some relief from all the crazy going on out there.  Who's going to Oshkosh?

Spin Zone / D Day
« on: June 07, 2024, 06:10:31 AM »
I am astounded at pictures of the brave men who at their advanced ages attended the ceremonies on the 80th anniversary of D Day.  They stood if they could, sat at attention if they could not, but had dignity, were humble, and quietly accepted the praise they so richly deserved, but would never ask for themselves.

Contrast the FJB stumbling through a speech, pooping in his pants, and having to leave early.  I am so ashamed at what we have become.

Spin Zone / Trump's NY Trial
« on: May 26, 2024, 06:24:22 AM »
I'm getting a really, really bad feeling about this.  Biden has announced that he will make a statement from the White House right after the jury announces the verdict.  The jury is biased enough to convict.  The judge is paid off enough and biased enough to sentence President Trump to prison for a bookkeeping error.  I believe that the left is rabid enough to put President Trump in prison for at least a while.  Of course the sham trial will be overturned on appeal.  But the damage will be done.  We've descended into a third-world dictatorship where no dissent in thought will be tolerated.  I feel like crawling into a hole and pulling it in after me.

Spin Zone / Solar Eclipse
« on: April 01, 2024, 08:18:55 AM »
Why is there so much hype over this solar eclipse?  I just happened to be in the zone of totality a couple of times and in the partial zone a few more and other than it getting dark and a little chilly it's no big deal.  Yet there's all this "here's what you need to do to prepare for the eclipse!" stuff.  Yes, if I had one I'd fly my Learjet to Nova Scotia to see one, but otherwise, why?

Spin Zone / Presidentuial Immunity?
« on: March 01, 2024, 06:14:40 AM »
A case is going to the Supreme Court regarding immunity for "criminal" acts by a sitting or former president.  President Trump asserts that he has absolute immunity from prosecution.  His opponents say otherwise.  I honestly don't know.  Searching around, I can't find any absolute answer other than there is already a remedy through impeachment.  What do y'all think?

Cool Places to Fly / Grand Hotel on Mackinac?
« on: February 03, 2024, 10:38:07 AM »
My wife and I never had a real honeymoon.  Lots of great trips, but nothing specifically honeymooney.  I'm thinking of flying us over to Mackinac Island and spending a couple days in the Grand Hotel.  Do it right.  Now that we can afford it, money is no object.  Within reason.

Any pireps on the airport and the hotel and the island in general?

Spin Zone / Go back in time and kill Hitler?
« on: December 31, 2023, 08:04:46 AM »
Rush brought up an interesting question.  If you could go back in time to 1938 and kill Hitler before he got started, would you?

Spin Zone / Removing McCarthy as speaker?
« on: October 03, 2023, 12:54:59 PM »
So the Motion to Vacate and table the discussion fails 208 - 218.  This means he will face an official Motion to Vacate his position as speaker.  He's been effective on some things, a failure on others.  What say you?  A good thing to get someone new?  Who?

Spin Zone / Nazi as sexual orientation?
« on: September 27, 2023, 12:51:59 PM »
OK, so all they have to do is declare that Nazi is a sexual orientation.  They get off on discriminating against various races and religions.  A big turn on is beating (consensually) other people.  Playing dress up in black uniforms with swastikas.  Really, no different from drag.  Presto!  No one can ever say bad things or discriminate against Nazis.

Rusty & Student Pilots / Accelerated Instrument vs. regular
« on: August 16, 2023, 03:11:08 PM »
I've been informed that I need to get off my ass and finish my instrument rating.  About 20 years ago I was nearly done and in the "polishing" stage when my wife got very sick and my priorities changed.  Some 16 years later I took the written again, got training lined up and then Covid.  Two years later I took the written again, got an instructor lined up, and then he moved to Florida leaving no choices.  I'm finally ready to go again.

So... do any of you have any experience with one of the accelerated instrument training programs?  Total immersion for a couple weeks and just get it done.  Or I can go the usual route with a couple flights a week and get it done that way.

Spin Zone / STEM mocks the LGBTQ survey
« on: July 21, 2023, 08:47:52 AM »
I'm not surprised.  Engineering and Computer Science students don't care much for LGXYXZ ideology.
In an article for the Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies, academics from Oregon State University wrote about their shock at receiving sarcasm and mockery in response to their research into undergraduate LGBTQ students studying in STEM fields.
According to the article, when the "malicious" subjects were asked to fill out demographic data, "12 respondents (24%) indicated their gender as being related to a helicopter or aircraft" ranging from an "Apache Attack Helicopter" to a "V22 osprey." In the section declaring one’s disabilities, responses ranged from claiming to be "illiterate" to lamenting "My country is run by communists," or even declaring that identifying as transgender is a disability in itself due to "the inability to come to terms with biological reality."
The research team declared that the mockery they received "had a profound impact on morale and mental health," particularly for one transgender researcher who was "already in therapy for anxiety and depression regarding online anti-trans rhetoric." The paper claimed that "managing the study’s data collection caused significant personal distress, and time had to be taken off the project to heal from traumatic harm" of having to read students' responses in the survey.
As my wife often says, "Boo fucking hoo."

Spin Zone / Take back the language!
« on: May 02, 2023, 03:35:27 PM »
So I say to my wife, "I need some gender-affirming care."  She says, "Come here you big stud, I have your gender-affirming care right now!"

So I say, let's take back the language!  We who are not of the Trans mentality should start using "gender-affirming care" in all its literalness.  Affirm my gender, baby!

Spin Zone / Trans and Blackface
« on: April 10, 2023, 08:25:22 AM »
According to Wiki (Yeah, I know): Blackface is a form of theatrical makeup used predominantly by non-black people to portray a caricature of a black person.  I've known a lot of women, but I've never known one so over the top freakshow as Dylan Mulvaney and others like him.  Real women just don't behave like they do.  Maybe I've seen actual trans women out on the streets, but they act and behave like real women.  I'm cool with that.  But never such outrageous behavior.  It's like trans blackface.  Womenface?  They are a caricature of women.  How is this not offensive to women?  To everyone?

OK, drag shows are a thing.  Over the top for entertainment.  Not my thing, but whatever.  But now it's leaking out of the theater and into the classroom.  I'm not OK with that.  Again, another example of Womenface.

The freaks are taking over.
