Really, how effective could this be?

Nevermind all the other pipelines that were already routed through the same area

Spin Zone / If we have to have "universal" medical care...
« on: February 07, 2016, 12:16:25 PM »
then why do the idiots in DC got to make it so damn complicated....

formulas, credits, IRS, fines, stupid websites, 20,000 pages of lawas, etc, etc, etc...

Its really easy, increase the Medicare tax rate out of your paycheck from 1.45 to 3, use it to triple the amount of VA medical centers, if you don't have/can't afford or just want free medical care go to the VA center and stand in line behind a Veteran.

otherwise, continue on as normal if you want to have Private Insurance and Private Health care.

geez, for a bunch of "smart" people they sure are stupid

Accident Review/Never Again (I hope..) / Never again I hope...
« on: January 31, 2016, 07:27:03 PM »
While hopping helicopter rides at Mount Rushmore this past year, I was climbing out of the Keystone helipad which is roughly 2 miles to NE and 4500' up to 5800' which is eye level with the monument.

I had a 210 call on freq (123.3) that he was 5800 and one mile north of the monument.... hmmmm.... that is exactly where I am.... caught a glimpse of him through the upper left corner of the windscreen and immediately dove down and right. So yea, he basically almost descended into me from behind(best guess 20' away from my rotor disc) and that was the first call he made.

So if you are cruising through the area, just give a shout out on 123.3. Plenty of room in the "pattern" for ya'll starch wingers to fit in.

However, the tour operator does actually have special permission, many man hours spent with FAA, US Dept of Forestry and what not and whatever the boss had to do, every year to break the "2000" foot rule. At the end of the day we probably get 30 phone calls a year complaining about us overflying someone's house when it was a starch winger. This makes life tough on the boss, especially when it comes time to renew his agreement with the forest service and what not. I'm sure you business owners out there can appreciate what I'm saying.

I was going to make up a Google map of our routes but I'm just too dang lazy. I flew at 5800 - 6200 but our lead pilot, she would, heh, fly as high as 7500  :o in front of the Rushmore monument. Basically our routes go around Rushmore, from Rushmore up to Harney Peak, and over to Crazy Horse and back. Also a heli base located a mile south of Crazy Horse. The people on the North Side of Harney Peak ridge (near Custer) complain even more. We fly around 7500 at Crazy Horse (some fly higher.... ::))

Rusty & Student Pilots / MEI as initial
« on: January 29, 2016, 06:50:50 AM »
looking through the PTS it looks like doing your MEI as your initial FI might actually be a tad easier ?

opinions ?

background - 1600 TT 1480 Helo CRH-I and PSEL, building FW time and adding A-I & CMEL for purposes of applying at Regional airline, need to do 25 hours multi engine anyhow might as well do CFI while at it...

Spin Zone / Auto insurance
« on: January 25, 2016, 02:16:59 PM »
Had to pick up a new policy after divorce, I pay more for less on my auto insurance than I do for my Avemco policy.

No accident history, no tickets in the last 20 years, driving a little tiny econobox....

This is from USAA. Pulled a quick quote from State Farm it looked about the same.

Happy with USAA just didn't realize how ridiculous it was priced these day.

How's it work, I thought I saw a "how-to" on the AOPA site years ago but darned if I can find it.

So yea,,,, what's the deal ?

File a DVFR flight plan, process through customs out and in at port of choice (FPR?), bring my passport, etc etc ?

Thanks
