Nothing to get excited about. I'm positive that was all back to school shopping/haircuts. Cost me over $100 for kindergarten.

A friend of my wife lives south of Punta Gorda. They did not evacuate. Waiting to hear from them, but the storm track shows their house getting a direct hit.

Only here could the election of a facist be regarded as "a sign of hope"

16+ foot storm surge to hit Ft. Myers and the barrier islands. That is going to permanently alter the landscape/coast line.

If it goes into Tampa Bay (especially when the tide is rising) it will get ugly, fast.

Looks like it's going to get ugly.

My new neighbors who just partially moved in over the weekend are moving from Tampa. Their house doesn't close down there until next week, and 85% of their stuff is still down there. They are an older couple doing the reverse snow bird to be closer to kids/grandkids. They are worried.

The threat to China is their economy.  Any wrong move and it collapses setting them back centuries.  Xi has the party worried, and his trip to back Russia was a bad move.  China does not want to get dragged into a war backing Russia, nothing could come out of it that would benefit them.  Remember, China needs a market to sell to, and Russia wants war with China’s customers.

The new regime won’t call in the debt.  They still need us to buy their crap, and more importantly they need our technology.

So the coup could have been to stop Xi from pissing us off by allying witg Russia and invading Taiwan and our possibly boycotting them in response and further destroying their economy? Makes more sense then my thinking.

Xi has been under a lot of pressure from the CCP because of the teetering economy of China. Lots of bad decisions have been made, and the Chinese house of cards is in real danger of collapsing.  Many of the party officials want Xi replaced, so there are internal struggles happening.

The PLA was upset Xi went to meet with Russia, and if rumors are true, the PLA made their move while he was out of the country.  Supposedly when Xi returned he was placed under house arrest by the PLA.

So what happens if this is true and the new regime calls in all our debt and/or decides to invade Taiwan at the same time?

I don’t know. This article could be spinning it a bit, can’t tell if it’s biased.  It’s trying to paint him as a fumbling buffoon but putting it nicely, like, “Bless his heart.”  I haven’t been following this race and maybe don’t know what I’m talking about but I read Hillbilly Effigy and was impressed with his insight.  He very much connects with the economically depressed and that’s what’s really pissed off and motivated right now.  Maybe he doesn’t need fancy ads and smooth talk; gas and meat prices are speaking for him.  Turnout might be what matters.

His problem is he's not reaching out to those who haven't read his book. People have short memories. They might not remember what he ran for in the primaries, but they will sure remember that he forgot about him in this campaign. Forgetting about your voters didn't work for Hillary, and it's not working for him.

Just saw this article in the WSJ on J.D. Vance vs Tim Ryan:
Ohio Senate Race Pits Awkward Populist vs. Smooth Politico

Hopefully the link works. Basically sounds like Vance doesn't know how to run a campaign and either isn't getting good help or shunning it.

Shunning it, I believe. Ohio has a strong Republican party. Something is wrong with his campaign, and he needs to fix it. But I'm afraid it may be too late.

What’s the word on JD Vance in Ohio?

Not a damn thing. He's not campainging. No TV ads, no mailers, no nothing. It's like he fell off the face of the earth after he won the primary. There was a news article about GOP leadership getting after him about this a few weeks ago. Lots of other groups are attacking this opponent, but nothing from him. But honestly, I think he's going to end up another Paul Ryan RINO.

Ohio's Republican candidates are doing everything they can to lose come November. My U.S. House district candidate jusrlt got caught lying about serving in Afghanistan after 9/11 (he didn't), and our U.S. Senate candidate has not been campaining at all. I have a feeling Ohio is going blue and cheating won't be needed.

Spin Zone / Re: Cub/Boy Scouts-Anyone with recent experience?

Scouting is not the worst thing a kid can do, but you should get involved and influence the troop.  The changes aren’t about gays or women, it’s lowering the standards for badges. It used to be that to get merit badge, you had to display some knowledge and skill, but now you can show up for a class on Saturday morning and get 90% of it. The boys know cheap when they see it and that will impact their interest.

Timeline wise - left scouting about 3 years ago when my son aged out.

Our neighbors next door joined scouts last year, in a troop the next town over. They love it. They said their troop is large and all the kids came from the troop in our town to theirs, and have a much better experience. So we will probably go with them next week and check out their troop.
