Spin Zone / Re: Fauci Lied

No money has gone fro GoF research.  You don't even know what it is and wouldn't know it if it bit you in the six. My pet tortoises know more biology than you ever will.   All you know is what you read on Twitter.

The money in Wuhan was to track coronaviruses in bats because
  • That's where the bats were that carried them
  • the bat coronaviruses had previously jumped into domestic animals and humans
You’re right. Money isn’t fungible, and really, what’s the risk of sending $40 MM US taxpayer dollars to a communist Chinese government lab right next to a Chinese military bioweapons lab?  What could go wrong?

Lucifer is such an alarmist.

No kidding, especially the old style linear springs that went along the upper door rails, those suckers will kill you. In our old house we ran safety cables inside them so at least they'd just follow the cable if they broke.
Beat me to it about the springs. I agree.

The fatality rate of COVID has remained steady at around 1% overall.  Had we done nothing we'd be looking at 3 million dead.  I don't care about economic upheaval, you can't put a price on human life.  I do feel badly for those who's mental health has been adversely affected, though I do point out that media connectivity has gotten really good.  Can't have everything.

Leave it to a cloistered academic to not care about economic upheaval.

To all those who lost their jobs due to foolish and unnecessary shutdowns, the 1 in 6 or 100,000 restaurants who permanently closed due to shutdowns, the 3 million restaurant employees who lost their jobs, they should all just eat cake, right?

You are such a heartless prick. I can’t believe they allow you to teach young people.

Spin Zone / Re: Bare shelves Biden
« on: October 21, 2021, 02:09:46 PM »
Of course you guys all loved Trump while the shelves ran bare while he was POTUS.
Hoarding toilet paper was a result of irrational human behavior brought on my government-induced fear, and didn’t involve hundreds of container ships sitting offshore waiting to be unloaded.

Please try to keep up.

Glad to see Trump is still living rent-free in your brain.

Biden's team built a fake set of the WH for TV recordings.  Not clear why they didn't use the original, maybe someone else had it already booked.
Probably Bill visiting his old BJ locations.

Bongino has big balls. He’s already vaccinated, but is making a stand for freedom.

Candace Owens!
Not a bad choice. Can you imagine her debating pretty much anyone on the D side?

I meant Colin Powell from or with covid not you from or with grief. I knew what you meant.
According to Wikipedia, he was being treated for multiple myeloma. But nothing to see here - don’t look at the cancer behind the curtain. It was Covid. Yea, that’s the ticket.

His speech at the 2020 DNC Convention violated Reagan’s 11th Commandment, and was unforgivable.

Spin Zone / Re: C-19 No More Dangerous Than Seasonal Flu
« on: October 18, 2021, 11:04:45 AM »
Not that I think anyone cares, but govt officials in Norway say they have been misquoted.  The public health dept of Norway said this:

“Our position, as stated in the news article, is that at this point in the pandemic we must start approaching COVID-19 as one of several respiratory diseases circulating with seasonal variation. This means that the control measures that will be applicable for various respiratory diseases will require the same level of societal preparedness. This does not mean that illness from coronavirus and the seasonal flu are similar.”

It’s a subtle difference, but apparently close enough for the right to embrace the otherwise liberal Norway.

https://www.thip.media/health-news-fact-check/fact-check-have-norway-reclassified-covid-as-a-ordinary-flu/24886/
How is that any different from the original article?  Or did you just reflexively think that we are just lemmings who follow something that fits our agenda, and not read the article?

From the original article:

“The Norwegian Institute of Public Health FHI has made the remarkable, but statistically supported, decision to classify Covid-19 as a respiratory disease that is as dangerous as the common flu. It is clarified that the pandemic is not over, but that it has entered a new phase where Covid-19 is now equated with a common respiratory disease, such as a flu or respiratory infection. This is done, among other things, due to the mutations that the Coronavirus has undergone, which makes it less dangerous, together with increased natural and vaccination-induced immunity that has been achieved in Norwegian society.”

That was excellent. Richard was my first Navion instructor, so I texted him about it.

I told him that the presentation of the Cessna 340 accident was outstanding. It’s great for the AOPA Air Safety Institute to get out in front of this, in a very thoughtful and respectful way. There are too many YouTube armchair quarterbacks out there wanting to be the first to point blame at someone or something. I’m sure you know the guy I’m talking about.

Here was his response:

“Stan - Thanks for the feedback and the affirmation of value of these. You are exactly correct in why we’re doing them!”

Accident Review/Never Again (I hope..) / Re: Glastar crash near Wausheka
« on: October 14, 2021, 09:20:19 PM »
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been too busy to post about it. I keep my Navion at Waukesha (KUES). I checked with my friends when this happened and no one knew anything about it. I checked the METARs and ceilings were 400-800’. I just assumed the pilot was instrument rated.  I’m sorry, SVFR on a long-distance flight and not being IR is stupid as fuck.

Do you mean the 172RG Cutlass? That will be rather close in layout to the 172 fixed gear, won’t it?

I agree that a couple of things make for a bigger risk:

Bouncing back and forth versus just moving over.
Moving between planes which have a middling similarity - not really close but also not really different.

Combination of those two is a situation I am certainly going to be very careful about in the future. Admittedly not a terribly common combination.
Yes, sorry. A C-172RG. It was a very good complex airplane to use in training, plus it’s got a good 20+knots over a 172.

Thanks for the candid explanation of the incident. IMHO, unless the field is very short, I'd avoid configuration changes while on the rollout. Wait until you pull off the runway, stop, and then do your post landing and clean up the airplane.
One of my primary instructors drilled into me, even in a welded gear 172, to say after turning off the runway and proceeding to clean up “It looks like a flap, it feels like a flap, it is a flap.”

I use that to this day and particularly in my Navion, when such things really matter.
