Spin Zone / Outback Bowl
« on: January 01, 2019, 10:59:50 AM »
Asechrest, what’s life like on the ground in a Bowl City?  I’m torn. My daughter went to Veterinary School at MIssisippi State, but I hate the SEC and am a huge Big 10 fan.  MSU’s defense looks like the real deal. Holy crap. Simmons is an animal.

They just announced that the Outback Bowl brings $1 billion (with a B) in economic activity. I understand such things generate very significant economic activity, but 1,000 million dollars of activity?  That’s a LOT of Paella.

Spin Zone / Predictions for 2019
« on: December 31, 2018, 08:43:54 AM »
Let’s have some fun. Post your prediction(s) for 2019.  Here are mine:

1.  Given a taste of power by recapturing the House, 2019 will have the leftists become even more unhinged, unstable, and violent than we have seen since the 1960s.

2.  Ruth Bader Ginsburg will assume room temperature in 2019, and Trump’s nomination and subsequent hearings for her successor will make the Kavanaugh hearings look like a junior high musical.

Go.

Spin Zone / The Schumer & Pelosi Show
« on: December 23, 2018, 07:52:47 AM »
As good of an article as I’ve read in a long time on the current state of affairs between the Democrats and the rest of us.

My favorite paragraph:

“The left is all about identity politics.  They assign all of us to a group -- racial, class, and/or all of their fabricated gender categories.  The right is all about individuals, their character, their talent, their contributions to society.  We do not care about skin color, economic class or sexual orientation.  We do care about good vs. evil, right vs. wrong.  This makes us quite villainous in the eyes of the left for whom everything is relative. For example, we do not think poverty causes crime, unlearned values of Western Civilization do.  Try to steal an election? It is moral if it takes out an opponent.  We are, it appears, the left vs. the right, very different on a neurological level.”

Spin Zone / Cohen and Attorney-Client Privilege
« on: December 14, 2018, 01:19:02 PM »
Legal Beagles and others who stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last night:

Can Trump sue Cohen for breach of privilege for opening up his yap about things he’s talking about in public?  I’m not talking about things he was compelled to disclose in court, but for what he is saying now after pleading guilty.

Pilot Zone / F-16 Viper Demo Team coming to OSH
« on: December 04, 2018, 12:06:24 PM »
Cool stuff is coming to AirVenture this summer. And given that the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, and F-35 demo team are going to be at the Milwaukee Air and Water show during the same week, I’m pretty confident some of them will do a few passes at OSH like the Blue Angels did last year.

Pilot Zone / I lost a Hero Yesterday
« on: December 02, 2018, 06:58:39 AM »
I don’t have many hero’s in my life. But yesterday I lost a high school classmate, my quarterback, and a warrior.

The next two years will be fascinating, now that the left believes it has been unleashed. I predict a 1984-level win for Trump if they keep this shit up, and I’m certain they will.

Pilot Zone / Navion
« on: October 09, 2018, 03:45:28 PM »
I’ve been wanting my own aircraft for a long time.  It’s taken me a while to define my mission, and I’ve gone from a go-somewhere aircraft (even though as a renter the farthest I’ve gone is about 300nm) to a Warbird such as a T-6.

However, the best deal in the world to get into a Warbird is the CAF.  I already fly a CAF Fairchild PT-26, and am building my hours to get into our SNJ next spring/summer. The cost of getting into the SNJ is a ridiculously low $3,500 sponsor fee, plus an hourly rate and share of fixed costs split among about 5 active pilots. It would be foolish to buy a $150,000 T-6 and $15,000 in fixed annual costs when I have access to the CAF.

However, I think I’ve found a potential solution in a Navion, preferably one painted in military livery and with a larger engine, I.e. 260 or 300 hp Continental. It would be a stout go-somewhere plane, but also a fun aircraft to fly for $100 hamburgers.

They were built by North American (maker of the T-6, B-25, P-51) after the war and before North American began production of the F-86 Sabre, and then were subsequently licensed and built by Ryan. Great lineage.

I’m going to get a flight in one this month from someone in our wing who just got one, but does anyone here at PS have any experience or knowledge of owning and operating a Navion?

Pros and cons are welcome!

Pilot Zone / Thoughts on doing Commercial and CFI concurrently?
« on: October 04, 2018, 08:33:37 AM »
I’m working on my commercial certificate, and it was suggested that I take a couple more written exams and do my commercial and CFI simultaneously. I know it would involve two separate checkrides, and doing maneuvers from both the right and left seats.

Does anyone have any experience with this, or recommendations?

By the way, I’m a CPA and will be working for at least another 10 years. Any CFI work would be more of a hobby, not full time or even part time employment.

Spin Zone / Kavanaugh Hearing Turning into a Chaos

Watching it live on C-SPAN at work. Desperate people taking desperate measures. Pathetic.

NOT about social justice.

So said Jason Whitlock, Fox Sports 1 Anchor on the Tucker Carlson show tonight.

I agree completely. And FYI, Whitlock is black.

Spin Zone / Trump Revokes Brennan’s Security Clearance
« on: August 15, 2018, 01:42:48 PM »
My first question:  What took so long?

My second question:  In what world do former employees get to retain their security clearance for a single day after they leave government employment?

I have to turn in my building pass if I leave my employer.  I’m pretty sure I don’t continue to get access to its servers.

I’d appreciate a good explanation as to why this can possibly happen. I’ve got nothing.

Spin Zone / Heading to OSH - who’s with me?
« on: July 19, 2018, 08:09:40 AM »
I’m heading up to OSH this afternoon to work Flightline Ops starting tomorrow. I’ll come back down this weekend to fly this Fairchild PT-26 up to Warbirds. I’ll be checked out from politics, but keep up the good fight.

If anyone is going, check in here.

This is when I did a practice run of the Fisk Approach two weeks ago. I parked next to the Flightline Ops shack.
