Spin Zone / CDC revised their planning scenario page
« on: September 12, 2020, 05:50:27 PM »
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scenarios.html

notably, the IFR in the CDC best estimate scenario has been significantly revised

0-19 years: 0.00003
20-49 years: 0.0002
50-69 years: 0.005
70+ years: 0.054

iirc, that number for 70+ is higher than previous best estimates.

Sometimes they give an overall CFR or IFR, sometimes they don't

Spin Zone / right-wing slant - huh?
« on: September 09, 2020, 10:52:18 AM »
A guy(?) on POA claims that right-wingers outnumber left-wingers like 20 to 1.

"we all know that this site [POA] is heavily weighted towards the right, probably by a margin of 20 to 1 or so. And not just right....reaaaally riiiiiiiight..."

huh?

If it was that biased, why did we lose (aka "loose") SZ on POA?

It would violate rules over on POA to even ask what that guy(?) is smoking, sooooo, I ask here.  In the words of Judge Hallar "are you on drugs?"

Spin Zone / Hoping everyone is enjoying the Labor Day holiday

Forget the various roots of Labor Day.... just enjoy the holiday and (if applicable) time off from work.

Spin Zone / Halloween
« on: September 01, 2020, 01:59:31 PM »
so, with all the panic over covid-19, what will happen in your neck of the woods wrt halloween?

I'm guessing Maskachusetts will prohibit children going door-to-door.

I'm guessing South Dakota will be normal ops.

Spin Zone / Mask - hmmm, make up your mind...
« on: August 28, 2020, 03:49:24 PM »
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html

has:

"Everyone should wear a mask in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. [emphasis mine] "

and also:

"Continue to keep about 6 feet between yourself and others. The mask is not a substitute for social distancing."

Spin Zone / Financial incentive to continue the feardemic
« on: August 28, 2020, 04:54:36 AM »
Maskachusetts is charging out-of-state workers state income tax even though these workers have not been allowed to work in the State.  And this will continue to 31 Dec 2020 or 1 month after the feardemic ends... whichever is later.

Spin Zone / Mandatory flu vaccination...
« on: August 28, 2020, 04:51:09 AM »
Maskachusetts' requirement for all school children to have a flu vaccination is, um, interesting.  Apparently children must be vaccinated by 31 Dec 2020 or they will not be allowed to attend to school... wait for it.... even if the school is still being conducted remotely.

What's the State that requires its workers to wear a mask in all meetings, even Zoom calls?

Pretty soon we'll have neighbors reporting people who aren't wearing masks inside their own homes...

Spin Zone / whitewashing history...

oops

Front page of today's Boston Herald has pictures of 5 people killed in shootings ... four from this year and, wait for it, Trayvon Martin.

I guess people don't understand the concept of self-defence.

Spin Zone / mandatory vaccine? and will you get vaccinated?
« on: August 27, 2020, 09:14:35 AM »
This could be an interesting discussion (but POA snowflakes keep causing such threads to be locked...)

so, one question is do you think a COVID-19 vaccination will be mandatory?

And would you get vaccinated when(if) a covid-19 vaccine becomes available?

An AP article reports claims that Univ Hong Kong scientists "claim to have the first evidence of someone being reinfected with the virus that causes COVID-19."

A different strain.

Note that the first time he had "mild symptoms" the first time and "none" the second time.

But people will take away that you can get infected again and you don't have lifelong immunity.  Almost nobody will notice that people get infected but not have any symptoms.  How many people get the virus and      don't     get     sick?

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-bubble-photographer-offensive-kamala-harris-joe-biden-meme-182540581.html

"A photographer working in the NBA bubble at Disney World was let go by the league after he posted an offensive meme about Kamala Harris, the newly announced Democratic candidate for vice president."

I wonder how many vulgar memes about President Trump have been posted by other people working with the NBA.  I'm sure those people have also been disciplined.

A democrat (Boston mayor walsh) and President Trump agree on something (Walsh called it "a disgrace" that a Mass Bail Fund group bailed out a convicted rapist that is now accused of committing yet another rape)

a reporter asked gov baker about how they determine a positive case rate per 100,000 for a community with 20000 residents.

oh my god.

I know reporters are dumber than a box of rocks, but that question just highlights a stunning stupidity.
