The polls having Cruz winning have two problems.  One they show Cruz's margin much smaller than the sampling error.  Number 2 is that we do not elect by popular vote.  We have that electoral college thing.  Hillary has more states that she can count on than does Cruz.  Cruz can't even count on sweeping the south.  He has no hope on the west coast and little hope in the Northeast.  That means he nearly has to sweep the south, Midwest, and the rural western states.  I would bet that doesn't happen.  I would bet good money that Hillary would beat Cruz unless she is indicted before the election, which I doubt will happen.

Spot on.  Cruz does not have the support needed to win in a general.  He has the far right conservatives and only PARTIAL support from evangelicals,which by the way are his core support base.  Moderate republicans and moderate democrats won't support him. Even the GOP and RNC don't support this guy.  The Clinton machine will rip him a new one before it's over.

If there is no majority on the first ballot at the convention, they should just drop the bottom candidate and have another ballot, repeat as necessary until one candidate gets a majority.

No new candidates introduced.  Leave it to the elected delegates.

Except it doesn't work that way.  It's the RNC's party and they write the rules.

Kasich is the spoiler and will go most if not all the way to Cleveland which will rob Cruz of votes. Kasich is looking at life after being Ohio Governor and if he plays his cards correctly he will find a position in the Trump administration (if Trump wins) or find favoritism with the GOP if the convention is brokered (for helping stop Cruz).

 Kasich could very well end up on a VP slot, for someone.

Completely agree.  However, I would be very curious to hear what you believe they should have done?

Congress holds the power of the purse.  By simply threatening to defund several programs of the President they could have made him back off his lax attitude on immigration.  Also they could defund the million$ that the Administration is spending on illegal immigrants to harbor and aid them.

It is this fanaticism — this complete unwillingness to change their policy or even to debate the possibility of serious change — that has put us in the position we are today.

But I do not see how things can go on as they are now. I do not see how you can ask the working-class people of this country to support a collection of policies that have failed them over and over and over.

Even today, with the fate of the party at stake, their only argument is to attack Trump and his supporters, to call them stupid, and racist, nativist, and isolationist and every other epithet they can lift from the editorial pages of the New York Times and the Washington Post.

In the end, they have left the opponents of the status quo no choice — they must either defeat Rubio, and radically change the power structure of the GOP, or they must watch Obama's immigration policy, Obama's trade policy, Bush’s foreign policy, and Bush’s economic policy, be implemented.

On Tuesday, we’ll know how the voters react to those alternatives.

Lucifer, I think most of congress' problems are related to weak president along with very weak congressional leaders.  I think a strong president will shake things up enough that some coordination will start to happen. 

 The Democratic side of Congress is indeed strong, they show that by leading Ryan/McConnell around by the nose and forcing them to give them EVERYTHING they want.  In reality Harry Reid is still in charge of the Senate and the dems still control the House.

 A President Cruz will have a difficult if not impossible task of getting anything through as the democrats hate him and half of the Republicans (including the majority of Senate Republicans) despise him.

 Now all of this is based upon the current make up of Congress.  Come November that could change dramatically.

 Bottom line is this: Unless the President can form a coalition in Congress and the Senate, any and all proposals by a candidate is nothing more than vote pandering.

When he was President, I thought MEH, an actor.  Looking back, he was the best President in my lifetime.
