Spin Zone / Re: Dems Lose Another Election

Assault isn't acceptable.

Which is probably why he got a fine for it and apologized the next day.  By local law, what he did was a misdemeanor, similar to public nudity or public drunkness.  We have all done and said things when we got angry that we should not have.  Only Dems are losing their mind over this.  It was wrong, but we don't need to take the guy out and shoot him.

We all hope he does better when he gets to Congress.

My God you're absolutely right.  Real ID standards discriminate against blacks and poor white trash. We need to get DHS to back off that shit. Otherwise commercial flying won't be like Greyhound anymore.

You guys aren't paying attention to me.

I think you're dead right on that.

The NSA needed new rules, and whomever was President after 9/11 would have issued them. So much for blaming Bush, Steingar.  As for what Obama was doing, I say again I won't judge until I know exactly what he was trying to do and that means evidence not conjecture.

The NSA has new rules, but the trouble is that the new rules don't appear to be fully followed.  The new situation creates opportunities to use the power of our intelligence for partisan purposes to spy on the other guys - in this case, Republicans.  There is adequate evidence that this has happened, including the unmasking of Gen Flynn (no relation) and a more general 350% increase in unmaskings of Americans ordered by political appointees during the year preceding the election.

When the new rules were put in place, we were promised that this would never happen.  But in DC, never just means "a year or two until your forget".

Spin Zone / Re: Trump's FY18 Budget Proposal
« on: May 27, 2017, 08:14:02 AM »
Gave it a quick read, would give it 3 stars out of 5 in the Science Fiction category - pretty much like any other Presidential budget.  The Republicans have their pet spending ideas, the Democrats have their's, just shifting the costs around, and rosy predictions.  Some quick observations.

1.) Any estimate past two years is an educated guess, anything past 5 years is just a plain guess.
2.) The 3% GDP growth rate, while possible, is pretty optimistic.  If that doesn't happen, the future year estimates are garbage.
3.) Government spending continues to rise.
4.) Note that the budget still shows revenue from the estate & gift tax, thought the President was going to abolish that.
5.) Since the tax reform is still conceptual, hard to predict the effect.  The budget seems to assume that revenues will continue to increase without missing a beat.  How the President will implement HUGE tax cuts and still pull that off is beyond me.
6.) There is that 2 trillion in "effect of economic feedback".  I've heard that it is the revenue increase that makes the tax cuts revenue neutral.  If that is true, then his budget table (S-1) is correct.  Not sure you can also then show that 2 trillion as a separate line item on Table S-2 as deficit reduction.  That needs clarification.
7.) the "two-penny Plan' (1.4 trillion in savings) is pretty nebulous.
8.) There is still an increase of a trillion dollars in the national debt over the next two years. And continued increases after that.

Guess I'll need to dive in with some more detail later.

I guess reality and liberal hyperbole is a hard choice for you to make

but

THE ESTATE TAX is the law until it is abolished by congress.

Stay with me here...

CONGRESS is not Donald Trump.

I know hating Donald Trump is paramount in the minds of every democrat. I understand your devotion to the agenda.

CONGRESS is an elected body. Its members are elected along something called a CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS.

CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS is not another name for Donald Trump.

Other than the horrible years under Obama, three percent is a strong rate of growth. You are confused by the paltry movement along those lines made common by the FORMER President, Obama.

Obama is not another name for Donald Trump.

There is another item in the budget proposed by President Trump that address reducing government. The budget proposes closing down a number of agencies that created by the executive branch but were never approved by CONGRESS.

CONGRESS is not another name for Donald Trump.

Spin Zone / Re: Russia meeting - what gives?

Another big story regarding Trump/Russia.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/russian-ambassador-told-moscow-that-kushner-wanted-secret-communications-channel-with-kremlin/2017/05/26/520a14b4-422d-11e7-9869-bac8b446820a_story.html?utm_term=.76851197f088
If I ever see any real evidence of any real wrongdoing, I might be troubled.

But so far it is a bunch of rumor spread by un-named, anonymous sources of possible links to things that may or may not have actually been a problem.  But that is enough for WaPo, and if it is enough for WaPo, then it is enough for all the rest of the frenzied media.  And if it is enough fore the frenzied media, then it is enough for 47% of the US population.

Sounds better than pretending there's a magical dude in heaven! I mean, at least Julius Caesar was actually there in front of them.

Cute. Counter with bigotry. How liberal of you. Why are liberals so often racist AND bigoted?
Why are liberals so willing to accuse others of racism and bigotry while engaged in racism and bigotry?
Liberalism: It's the ultimate hypocrisy.

This is silly. What did you think I meant, that we were ruled by King Xenu?

I take being a CITIZEN over being a SUBJECT very seriously.  It is NOT silly.

I disagree. Even if Trump resigned or was impeached and removed, Pence would become the next President, followed by Paul Ryan and so on. Our system of government is well in tact.

I would expect that a new vice president would be selected by Pence and approved very quickly before Ryan rose to the presidency.  It's hard to imagine someone worse for the job and more universally despised than Ryan.

Let's also remember that just because a set of information is harmful to national security does not mean that the governed people shouldn't know about it.

I don't like the term "governed people".  Didn't we fight a revolution to change that?  Doesn't the government work for us?

Saying there is a coup is hyperbole. I'll agree there are people who are actively trying to damage Trump and his administration and I think there are many who would love to see Trump resign or be impeached and removed. But that's hardly a coup.

I think there is a planned, methodical approach by the Democrats, and the Media to undermine the Trump Administration.  I don't think calling it a Coup is hyperbole.  I think it is real, call it what you will, but except for the violence, we are seeing all the indications of an attempt to overthrow the legitimate President of the U.S., without any facts, nor a rationale for doing it.  When the false accusations don't work, they may resort to violence.  That is if trump continues to actually do what he said he would do.  If he folds, and we remain business as usual (crony, big government, more taxes, etc) then they will back off.

The government likes to keep you frightened.  The media likes it too, sells cars and breakfast cereals.  Fact of the matter is you are far more lily to die of a plethora of mundane causes than be harmed by a terrorist. I say this having had a terrorist attack at my home institution.  Freedom is more important than security.

This is true but the problem with this line of argument (to support not discriminating against ideologies associated with terrorism) is your assumption that this rate will remain static.  As we saw pre WWII in Germany, very small problems can escalate and spread into all encompassing problems. If Islamic terrorism is not nipped in the bud, it will become much more widespread.

The second problem with your line of argument is that while the odds of being a direct victim of terrorism is very small, the attacks result in very significant social changes that do impact us all in a negative way, such as the creation of TSA as DJ points out.

Liberals are always stunned when they realize that conservatives are not just old white guys but run the gambit of ethnic backgrounds including those who are considered non-white.   As always liberal premises are never close to reality.

The whole Trump Russia narrative is there to delegitimize the presidency and to further slow down any implementation of the administration.

The Democrat propagandist media (95% of it) is staging a COUP, as I have said before.  It is purposeful undermining of the legitimate government of the United States, and they need to be held accountable for it.

My point remains. This site wasn't started as a conservative discussion forum, it just happened that the majority of regular posters here are more conservative minded. I want more people to post here in general, including more people with differing view points. Generally speaking, you're not likely to see people name calling here whereas if I posted over at DailyKos, I would likely be immediately insulted for daring to disagree with their narrative. But again, that's a known liberal site. PilotSpin wasn't started to be a conservative site.

My thoughts exactly.  Nobody mandates this site to be conservative leaning.  As a group, it seems, pilots/aircraft owners are more conservative by nature.  We are responsible individuals, we pay for things, and we accept being held accountable for our actions.  Plus we burn 100LL, and/or Jet A.  By contrast, many liberal/progressives (not all, mind you) blame everyone else for their circumstances, have a victim mentality, and often think the USA is a empire that enjoys taking advantage of others, and exploiting them.

My question remains: how many of you participate in discussions at DailyKos or other liberal controlled discussion sites?
The difference is that DailyKos is a known liberal site. PilotSpin is not a conservative nor a liberal site, it's just a site open to political discussions. As it happens, the majority of posters happen to be more conservative.
