Spin Zone / Re: Remember When Trump Skipped that Debate
« on: April 14, 2016, 05:37:37 AM »
Thats down right funny coming from a Cruz supporter.

I don't see many other options than Cruz.  Yes, if Trump is the nominee, I will vote for him, but I don't trust him either.

Are you denying that predatory lending practices caused the housing bubble and subsequent burst?
I'm not speaking for Stan, but those predatory lending practices were fueled and ignited bv the Federal Government, demanding that banks lend to non-credit worthy applicants.  In fact, those lenders were punished by denial of access to the (borrowing) window at the Fed if they refused.  But in order to make it palatable for them, they were promised that they would face no risk because Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would buy all their junk mortgages and the government would in effect guarantee their profit.

With such a setup, who wouldn't go out and make as many stupid loans as possible?  They get punished if they don't and rewarded if they do.  That was probably one of the most effective Government programs ever, and look what it caused.

Spin Zone / I Miss the Old PoA Leftists
« on: March 25, 2016, 02:21:21 PM »
Specifically I miss telling them how self-important their world view is.  They don't have to believe me; Thomas Sowell says it eloquently.  Tell me this description doesn't absolutely nail your garden variety pseudo-intellectual leftist?

Socialist or Fascist

Quote
What socialism, fascism and other ideologies of the left have in common is an assumption that some very wise people -- like themselves -- need to take decisions out of the hands of lesser people, like the rest of us, and impose those decisions by government fiat.

The left's vision is not only a vision of the world, but also a vision of themselves, as superior beings pursuing superior ends. In the United States, however, this vision conflicts with a Constitution that begins, "We the People..."

That is why the left has for more than a century been trying to get the Constitution's limitations on government loosened or evaded by judges' new interpretations, based on notions of "a living Constitution" that will take decisions out of the hands of "We the People," and transfer those decisions to our betters.

The self-flattery of the vision of the left also gives its true believers a huge ego stake in that vision, which means that mere facts are unlikely to make them reconsider, regardless of what evidence piles up against the vision of the left, and regardless of its disastrous consequences.

Plus it would be a safe bet someone would call Sowell "Pacist" for his trouble.

See, you support the latter part of the equation but not the former.  A liberal will be around next to support the former but not the latter.  Hence, the win-win.

Not if you're the baby.

Is this what we've come to?  A baby's life is a political bargaining chip?

Sounds like the solution is means testing for child bearing.  If you cannot support yourself and child in womb, the government will offer you $250 for an abortion.  If you decline the abortion you also decline all future welfare.  Seems like something both the right side and left side of the aisle can endorse.

Nope... speak for yourself.  I will never support state sanctioned/funded abortion.  If you want to kill your unborn child, that is on you.  I, nor anyone else should be forced to finance your morality, or lack thereof.

I'm with you on the risk, but if it comes down to  Trump versus Hillary or Bernie,  I will do everything I can to help Trump win.
Likewise, if it comes down to Cruz and (Hillary or Bernie), I will do all I can to help Cruz.  I'd rather have a poor leader with good ideas than a good or bad leader with bad ideas.

Wow. Just wow... If charities were effective at lifting people out of poverty, there wouldn't have ever been a need for government programs in the past or now. There is nothing, I repeat, nothing to stopping charity from getting people out of poverty right now! Charities are ineffective and while they are great to have and do their best, the results show they are not enough.
Why is it anybody other than the individual's responsibility to be lifted out of poverty?

Perhaps you care to explain how calling someone "first lady" who was in fact a first lady, or "Senator", who was in fact a Senator, or "Madam Secretary", who indeed served as secretary of state is hypocrisy.  I could easily call your comment idiocy, however.  I'm almost ready to be rid of this board.  Not only am I alone, but I have to fend off utter tripe instead of informed discussion.

No sir... the idiocy began with you claiming all but one GOP candidates are "bat-shit crazy".  One of which is a US Senator and may be the most accomplished attorney in recent history.  Another is a first generation legal immigrant who rose to the level of US Senator against huge odds and the third is one of the most successful individual businessmen in our country.  However, you choose to insult them and show respect for the two least accomplished people in the race for the Presidency.  Bernie is very likely the least accomplished public servant of our time. He's a communist hiding as a socialist (think about that for a second when you contemplate how far we have declined as a nation), and in my view truly un-American.  Then there is one of the most despicable human beings in public office who started off her career by getting booted from from the Watergate committee for fraud and ethics violations, and sunk to increasingly lower lows from that time to the present.

If you want to take your ball and go home to the faculty lounge, so be it.  However, if you have the intestinal fortitude to stick around, you might grow a little thicker skin should you chose to continue with the ridiculously idiotic statements.

Well, I support the protesters, as long as they protest legally.

I've been a protester myself, and the First Amendment enshrines that right.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

They weren't protesters at the Trump event, they were disruptors,  Protesters carry signs, and chant, peacefully, not taunt, and punch Trump supporters and cause mayhem to shutdown free speech.

I get that, but socialist people are too stupid to understand that.

A slight edit for all the Hillary and Bernie supporters out there...
