I’ll try it.  Nothing wrong with black women.  But if it gets preachy or “hate men” or anything I’ll drop it.
Not woke at all. One thing that took me back was Meghan Markle. I was planning on disliking her just because of the way she screwed up Harry, etc.

Instead, she is a half way decent actress, and a sympathetic character on this show. I was pleasantly surprised.

Welcome to the summer solstice, otherwise known as the longest day of the year, or more accurately, the most daylight hours in the northern hemisphere.

Good day for grilling.

Now enjoy the days getting shorter.

I take my steak medium well and my ribs hot…thank you very much.

The senile, walking crime syndicate known as pedophile joe biden, thinks he can build a railroad across the ocean.

I think he should be locked up in a memory care unit and his entire cabinet indicted for crimes against humanity.

That’s what happens when you make national energy policy based on the ramblings of a snot-nosed teenager on the autism spectrum.

Um, why don't you post a few of those here, so we can, uh, critique them. ;D

Okay!  Here's the sexiest picture ever taken of me.

I spent a couple years in Asia in the military. I got pretty good at telling which country Asians, well the females anyways, were from. And more importantly, if they had or had a dick removed.

Spin Zone / Re: Why do we age?
« on: May 07, 2023, 07:01:29 PM »
This is a very complex question that involves genetics, physiology, and evolution.  Most species have a lifespan more or less delimited by their size, larger animals require more time to make sufficient cells to create the adult animal, hence they reproduce later and live longer.  Smaller animals tend to reproduce more quickly and live shorter lives.

Some might point to telomeres, the repeat sequences that form the end caps of our DNA.  In humans these are put on embryonically, your cells don't make the requisite proteins or nucleic acids to reinforce them, hence they shorten as you age.  Then again, mice do express the proteins and nucleic acids to make telomeres, yet they peter out after just a few years.  There's more to it than that.

We could point to the build up of mutations as the driving force behind aging, and there is some evidence to back it up.  Animals with long life spans relative to size, like tortoises and psittacines have insanely good DNA repair, but still there's more to it.

Almost 20 years ago the Japanese scientist Yamanaka discovered a method to turn boring old somatic cells into exciting pluripotent stem cells.  Further research has shown that not only are these cells pluripotent, but they're also young.  Yamanaka found a veritable fountain of youth.  Aging is complex.  That said, there are only two certain things in life, death and taxes.

Think about how the US has adapted into a suburban lifestyle. There are few suburbs in this country that can be adequately serviced by public transportation. The entire nation is built on being able to literally drive door to door.  Homes are built that way, stores are built that way, and roads are built that way.

Their nirvana can literally never happen.

Won't stop them from doing everything they can to make it happen regardless of the "collateral damage" they cause.

I think the goal of the Left/Government/Corporate Alliance is to funnel the non Elite into Public Transportation by making personal travel too expensive and too restrictive.

Spin Zone / Re: Chicago's New Mayor...

...is worse than the old mayor:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11950187/Chicagos-new-liberal-mayor-blames-spiraling-violent-crime-BUSINESSES.html

"Brandon Johnson, a former union organizer who was elected on Tuesday, said the city doesn't have money to solve its problem because '70 percent of large corporations in the state of Illinois don't pay a corporate tax'."

'It's that type of restraint on our budget that has caused the type if disinvestment that has led to poverty, of course that has led to violence,' said Johnson, who didn't give the source for his claim.

The 47-year-old Cook County commissioner beat candidate Paul Vallas, 69, who had the backing of Chicago's police union, by around 13,000 votes. Johnson will replace ousted mayor Lori Lightfoot, who fell out of favor after crime surged under her.

Top of Johnson's agenda will be reversing the city's spiraling crime rate and dealing with out-of-control homelessness that's transformed part of O'Hare International Airport into a grubby makeshift shelter."

Let's go, uhh, Brandon.

Part of the problem is that if someone new (or not so new) says anything that isn't part of the Pilotspin Party line, they immediately get criticized from a dozen people.  Some criticisms are valid, some are not and some are just plane mean and insulting.  Trying to respond to such a deluge would be a herculean task and most people don't have the incentive to participate in such a one sided discussion.   Even if someone actually agrees with the majority, if they stray off the Pilotspin party line they get called a pussy, Rino, MSM tool.   Why would someone put up with that?
To be fair, I don’t think there is a PilotSpin party line. Certainly most of us are conservative, most have liked Trump when he was president, and many support him for another term.

I differ only on the latter. I think you and I are probably on the same page.  Willingly jumping off the Trump train for valid, realistic reasons is yielding attacks only from one person.  Many here disagree with my support for DeSantis, but all but one can debate the issue, and we can both learn from that debate.

I didn’t debate my daughter when she was a teenager, and I don’t debate adults when they act like children - or try not to, but sometimes it’s too much to ignore.

Qualified immunity is not law passed by Congress nor is it in the Constitution. It was pretty much legislated by the bench and was a reaction to claims, true or not, of excessive police brutality against blacks. It is indeed abused but to what extent is debatable.  I am opposed to it on principle.  No one, law enforcement or not, violating a person’s fourth amendment rights, should be shielded from liability.  And it’s true we got along fine without it for most of our history.

But as a pragmatist, I worry that due to changing culture and demographics we are facing a critical shortage of police officers.  Ending qualified immunity may make this situation worse.  It is proven that strong policing cuts down on crime.  With the situation in the cities what they are, the last thing we want to do is weaken the police.  Even if ending qualified immunity doesn’t result in a dearth of policemen, it may result in police being reluctant to act for fear of lawsuits.

One solution is for municipalities to shield officers from liability (pay for their defense and any settlements).  I have a problem with the idea of low-salary police being open to high jury awards for trying to apprehend a criminal and making split second decisions under pressure. This hurts their families

On the other hand there are abusive cops, and corruption in many forces, and it is often the innocent, not criminals, who are victims of police “over-enthusiasm” and they deserve justice and compensation.

Having said all that, right now I don’t think it’s an issue Trump should press.  He will turn off libertarians and independents and he doesn’t need it to keep his MAGA core, so it’s not strategic, and he needs all the good strategy he can get to overcome the upcoming Democrat cheating.

2024 is more about getting rid of the Dems than about any of these myriad secondary issues.  Focus on the big ones and many of the small ones will take care of themselves. Crime was at its lowest when Trump was in office before the pandemic. Minority unemployment was at its lowest (there’s a correlation there).  Booming economy, low gas prices, no inflation, border under control, and no WW3.  Get that back:  Far more important than bickering over qualified immunity.

I have said many times that I don't personally like DT.  He is a self centered, narcissist jerk.  But back when he was President I liked almost all of the things he did.  But after losing the election he went off the rails.  Worse than even Hillary did.  I think he snapped and I don't want a President that has snapped.

If he gets in office again he’ll unsnap.

I mean, we’re going to need fossil fuels for at least another 10 years!

Either they are coming up with a substitute for plastics, or the faces of female politicians will begin to melt off their skulls in 11 years.

We have centuries of clean, domestic fossil fuels and finding more ever day. No need for replacements.
