Spin Zone / Police state film

Has anyone heard about this?

“Police State” is a movie that I never wanted to make, because I never wanted America to get to a point where a movie like this needed to be made. I feel like the animal that alerts the herd to approaching danger, so we can take precautionary steps before it’s too late.

I used to use any browser to navigate to DUCKDUCKGO.COM.

I don't know how old it is, but I never knew they had their own browser for windows (and MAC, I think).  I loaded it and so far, I like it.

Spin Zone / Here's how we deal with "gun violence" in Florida.

Seven fatal shootings have rocked Daytona Beach since the beginning of the year and police officials said they have plans to combat the rise in gun violence.

Quote
The strategies designed to fight the wave of gun violence include an intensified collaboration with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to enhance intelligence sharing and coordination of all enforcement efforts, the chief said.

“This joint approach allows us to pool our expertise and resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for perpetuating violence in our community,” the chief said.

Nothing about taking our guns away.

In fact, DeSantis recently signed into law concealed carry without a permit.

Spin Zone / Climate change
« on: June 28, 2023, 02:06:15 PM »
Becky suggested I start this thread to prove we can have a legitimate and rational discussion about Climate Change.
My statements were:

Climate change is real.
People contribute to climate change.
Does that mean we should kill all the people?

I am convinced climate change is happening.  I don't really understand how anyone can deny that.  Thirty years ago, my dock on the intracoastal waterway was never under water.  In the past 6 years it gets submerged at least once a year and has had to be rebuild three times due to hurricanes.
I found a catfish on my front lawn after hurricane Matthew.

If you think CC is not happening, feel free to say so, but my thinking goes more along the lines of what do we do about it?

And before someone asks "Well, what is the right temperature", don't bother it is useless question.  The best answer to that is 42.

So, what can we do about it?  Very little. But how do we deal with it?
I have a concrete block house on a slab.  I can't do much to raise it up.  I put up Hurricane rated impact windows, PLUS I installed hurricane shutters on the front of the house that faces the  intracoastal.  Soon I will replace my 7 yr old shingle roof with a steel roof.

I also think we need to stop paying people to rebuild their houses and businesses in hurricane prone areas, like along the beach.  And we should stop subsidizing insurance that pays people to rebuild those houses and let the market determine insurance rates.

Legislatively, I don't have an answer.  The government does things like mandating EVs, which improves nothing and in the long run may even be worse.  But I do think we could do more to reduce pollution.

Ok, let's hear that legitimate and rational discussion that Becky thinks we can have.

Spin Zone / My disappointment of a nephew, and Bud Light
« on: June 22, 2023, 03:15:30 PM »
This is the nephew I have mentioned a couple of times that wouldn't marry his baby mother of 4 kids because she would "lose her benefits".  That alone makes me sick.

He also used to disappoint me because he drank Bud Light instead of real beer.

But now, he refuses to drink Bud Light because of the Dylan Mulvaney thing.  Ok. I sort of understand that.

But his new beer of choice is Michelob Light. Huh?  It's the same company.

Spin Zone / EVs, This is going to go well!
« on: April 26, 2023, 01:26:59 PM »
I consider myself an EV fan, but mostly for the performance, reduced maintenance, and the convenience of having a fully fueled car every morning.

But EVs aren't for everyone or every situation.  Here is one such situation.

I wonder how big a battery an Abrams tank would need, especially in the winter.

If I were to voice my opinion on this twit I would sound just like #7.

Spin Zone / Abortion
« on: April 06, 2023, 04:05:01 AM »
I don't agree with all the hand-wringing about "we are doomed",  "There is nothing we can do" etc.
And I especially don't agree with the feeling that there is nothing we can do because however many people vote Republican, the Dems will just cheat and create all the votes they need.

I do agree with the conservative stances on things like economics, defense, gun rights, personal responsibility, voter ID, border security and a lot more, but there are some very hot and very divisive issues where we need to find some middle ground.

I think many of the Republicans problems are brought on by themselves.
(go ahead, call me a pussy, rino, liberal troll whatever).

But I think one of the big things killing their chances at the polls is their stance on abortion.  I don't agree with abortion, but I don't think my opinion should be foisted on others.

Here is what I think the Repbulican position on abortion should be:

Abortion should be decided on by the woman over 18 (or pick an age), her doctor, AND the father.
  Or
decided by the girl, her doctor AND her parents.

The Federal government should not fund abortion, but they should not stand in the way of private abortion financing

They should not turn doctors and abortion clinics into criminals, unless they do something criminal (like selling baby parts).

That would take a lot of the stamina out of the pro-abortionist movement, and thus the anti-Republican movement.

There are other issues.  When I get time I will start another similar thread on the environment.

Fire away.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley says she supports a proposed bill that would make it legal to carry guns without a permit or training, The State newspaper reports.

The proposed Constitutional Carry Act (S. 115) would decriminalize carrying a firearm without a permit — effectively eliminating the need for a concealed weapons license and related training — and would allow people to carry firearms either concealed or out in the open.

“Criminals are dangerous," Haley said Tuesday, "and I think that every resident should be allowed to protect themselves from criminals."

If enacted, South Carolina would be the sixth state with such a law. Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Vermont and Wyoming already have similar laws on the books
