Ha ha ha! What the hell is wrong with me?  I have better things to do than write tomes like that.

Ectually, I like them. they are little windows into the mind of quality examination, without fear of much bombastic critique(well, except for one hoser). ;)

Personally, I think the real damage is when the Democrats start poking around his finances.  Can you say Emoluments? That dog can hunt, and he has teeth, too.

There has never been a successful emoluments prosecution at the federal level concerning the US Constitutional prohibition. Never. Maybe Trump will be the first, but knowing what I know about all the financial dealings, it is a pandora's box if the Dems take it to conclusion.  The foreign emoluments is only applicable to congress. If the Dem congress wants to go there, Katy bar the door, because the minute another Dem is in office, SCOTUS will see to it that they are anally raped every day until the office holder gives up.

So, go ahead, make my day.

Tell me about it.  But my wife isn't stupid.  In fact, I'd say she is borderline genius.

I love my wife.
I respect my wife.

But the only reason we haven't divorced is that I stopped saying anything to her even tangentially positive about Trump.

But come 2020 . . .

There are a lot of brilliant liberals.

Just ask them.

Sadly, many brilliant geniuses are some of the most stupid people on the planet. I used to hang out with a bunch of nuclear PhDs. some of the smartest people in the world. I'm guessing many of them were liberal. They didn't understand jack-shit about economics, business, social policy, Marxism, dependence or sovereignty, etc. But - they could design the hell out of a Tokamak reactor. (not that it ever worked as intended)

Merkel doubles down.

At the cost of nothing, and the gain of plenty, I'm ready to take my US Army and all our materiel and come home from EU. Let them fight off the bear if they want to get a big head about it.

BTW, I served in NATO, if anyone cares.

End of the world?

Boy, be glad you weren't around for the 68 or 72 elections. That's why I wanted you to watch the Watergate bio.

2016 election, my precinct went about 86% for Trump, and the rest of the GOP folk. We had long lines at voting this past week. Early voting across the nation is the highest ever in a midterm since records have been kept. Don't gimme that do-goody-good bullshit about disenfranchisement. Everyone who wants to vote, can vote. Show an ID, take a ballot, do your thing. No ID? Cast a provisional vote in any precinct in the US and it will be evaluated and if found legit, it will count.

STFU and quit whining.

Spin Zone / Re: The Actual News

I just wrote a long letter to the editor of USA Today about this article:

https://www.usatoday.com/in-depth/news/nation/2018/10/31/george-soros-and-migrant-caravan-how-lie-multiplied-online/1824633002/

It was a very interesting article. I suggest folks read EVERY word. To start with, USA Today makes a startling comment in the headline. The public commentary out there in social media, and in political speech about Soros funding the caravan is a lie. That would mean something truly stunning. That USA Today, had fully investigated the funding of the invasion, also spoken to Soros and got a blanket denial, and then followed that up with records, and other evidence that Soros is truly NOT funding the caravan. It is very, very hard to prove a negative but somehow, USA Today started out with this fantastical assumption. Reading the article I was prepared at every para to find investigative results, interviews with banks, intl money groups, even Soros himself where he claims it is not true. To my disbelief, not one word of denial is anywhere in the article. Nothing, zip, nada. No statements, no investigation, no follow-up on where the funding is coming from. It's not free to feed people for 2 months on the road. Even poor people have to eat. Where did the money that was handed out in Guatemala come from? So far no one has found out, but USA Today is CERTAIN that it did not come from Soros or one of his philanthropic organizations.

I am - amazed. People read this headline and it is an instant unverified statement: "The funding for the caravan is NOT from Soros". People will read this and believe it in the absence of any kind of evidence.

I see two factors at work here. One is serious, and the other is more serious. First off - we are in the age of instant gratification, and instant decisions. Our attention span is about as long as the next headline, and the next headline comes at us every 2 minutes or less. This is why a liberal slanted media is so forceful. If one goes to cnn.com and sees the words 'Trump anti-semitism', then can then go to Vox and see 'anti-semitism in the age of Trump', then they can go to MSNBC and watch 2 minutes of the name 'Trump' associated in some way with 'anti-semitism'. It is echo chamber reinforcement, because no one wants to take more than 12 seconds to digest the reality. Ergo - they heard or saw it on 3 different outlets, therefore Trump must be an anti-semite.

The even more pernicious problem comes from the will to believe or hold faith in the abundant evidence to the contrary. This is far more prevalent in the liberal side than the conservative. they are followers. Either followers of a cult of personality(BO), or followers of doctrinal messaging(see above). If a liberal were confronted with the fact that Trump moved the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem it comes off as a negative. But - tell them that BO, and Clinton BOTH endorsed the same exact policy and watch as they try to fact-check that one in their mind. BO and Clinton said it(but failed), and Trump said it and did it. There are other policy positions that are similar, but in context this is the one that matters right now.

It saddens me that the liberals cannot choose to investigate any claims made by the hierarchy of the left messaging. We've all heard it too. The last time we went through something similar, with the will not to believe honest and direct evidence a lot of Jews got turned into ashes. A common theme of most of the #walkaway folks.

8 minutes worth of pleasure for anyone under 35. The woman who does the female part does an amazing job riffing off Meatloaf. I met him once when recording promo tracks. Very nice guy, but always has the knob turned up to 11. Manic, without the depressive that goes with it. The 'loaf could bring it.

I'm not sorry, that is a complete false equivalence attempt. Kissing on the cheeks between a royal and head of state is strictly peer-to-peer. It is in lieu of handshake, where both parties are equal. Now, if the kiss had been on the hand or ring, or some such you might have a case.  The bow(when done correctly, unlike BO) is strictly from a supplicant or person of lesser status to an elder, a boss, or superior

bowing to the engineer;

Elevator lady bowing to passengers and customers;

Nope, BO was being an ass, and plus he didn't' know the protocol for bowing anyway. More than a year spent in Japan, I learned a few things.

Well, I'm not on that website, but for once I clicked the link because it seems most people here are rejects from that site. As I know none of the background, and none of the foreground, I would say we have a fifth-columnist in our midst, and there is some monitoring of our posts here, for content which paints the mod or mods, or admins in a bad light. And they will take any microscopic slight by a member here as a reason to ban.

Sadly, I clicked on 'recent posts' and found a rather horrific story about someone being turned in to FAA for a social media comment. What a sad fucking state of affairs.

Anyone here want to turn me in here's your ammo: I hate the FAA with a white hot passion. I think they are mostly a bunch of useless mouths, sucking at the federal teat, and don't give a wet dribbly shit for 'safety' or helping pilots or plane owners. I also think the US in the means of the FBI/CIA/NSA/BATF and a bunch of other agencies are way, way, way out of control with electronic media. And with other forms, but surely with electronic media. To the collective 'crats at the fedguv I say to you: Consume quantities of feces, become ill, sit in the corner, and die quietly.

Well, you need to understand how this works. The NYT is a news organization. The fact that some highly partisan Dems used firearms to shoot up a Republican campaign office does not qualify as 'news' worthy. It's just a matter of editing content for the limited amount of space they have. Of course, electrons in an online media are expensive.

Bombers van showing a lot of Trump stickers, GOP red elephant, in the windows and once that reads "CNN sucks". Sounds like a complete loon from the far-right gone off the rails. Shame. We will be hearing about this for the next 8 years.

Well, you see liberals I don't trust you. I don't think you are being honest with us. Should the US have all three branches of govt in the hands of the liberals, then all those alt-left shit-sandwiches are possible. Gun control is the best example. The liberals will 'interpret' the word "infringed" to mean whatever they want it to mean. Nothing is cast in stone with the libs. They will break every law, extend every power(DREAM act), and force their policy in the face of concrete opposition(Obamacare).

The left is no longer a party of lawful respect for the constitution. Words mean whatever will advance the power-hungry party and twist the society to a place where we need permission to start a business, move our residence, etc.

People complain about Trump being power hungry. It's a complete lie. He's reduced the factor of govt in our lives. That's a good thing and I don't want to go back to being forced to have a women on our BOD(yes, that's a real thing now). I don't want to pay for the education of people here illegally. I also don't want to have open border(Beto in TX has already endorsed that, and he's running for a senate seat). I want to own 6 rifles, with 1200 rounds of ammo, and NOT ever register anything anywhere(lib judges have already ruled on registration at lower levels) for any reason.

The satire on that ad was soooooooo close to reality if the libs are allowed to run this country, that the rest of the nation woke up after 2012 and they were scared. Trump was no ones first choice. But - turn the reins of govt over to ---- Hillary? Are - you - fucking - kidding - me!!!??? Shockingly, from a policy perspective, Trump has knocked it out of the park. Sure there are things to improve with Trump. He's getting there. By the time 2020 rolls around he's going to be unstoppable. Go ahead, run Hillary again. Go for Booker, or SacajeWarren. Hickenlooper, I don't care. You could dig up JFK and he'd do a better job than any of the shit-wits currently at the top of the leftists.

I beams are welded to the round eave pipe.
Yes, for structural purpose, the dead load(no live load) on the roof will spread the rafters out, and the I beams keep them from spreading.
Yes, right now they are rafters. There will be vertical pipes from the rafter down to the cross beam then technically making it into a truss, although many roof trusses are individually reinforced with a ladder framework or similar.
The collar ties are also for lateral rigidity.
5 in 12 pitch.
We have a modest snow load at this latitude and elevation. I'm supporting the rafters with vertical pipe down to the crossbeams to transfer any minor snow loads down there. The I beams are the main load carriers. In the event of a wet snow of 3 feet, I've calculated the deflection of the I beam as about 4 inches over 40', presuming the load is equivalent across the roof span(it never is, most time loads slide to the eave section).

I don't often work in construction with wood, but sometimes I build smaller things with wood. I did a gazebo over a hot tub a while back. I'm mostly a metal guy. I built a carport with flat roof last year and used a mix of steel for the supports and wood for rafters, then metal R-panel for roofing. It came out real nice, but switching between wood and metal takes some special materials.
