We have good strategic reasons for being heavily involved in Germany, Japan, Saudi, and Korea. These are all areas where if the US left a vacuum, Russia or China would be happy to step in and take over our hegemony position. I do not want that to happen.

Boots on the ground in a stable but critical part of the world are as important as a world class navy. However there are a lot of places we don't need to police. Afghanistan is one of those.

Spin Zone / Re: Why Are Democrats So Violent?
« on: October 19, 2018, 02:20:47 PM »

I think you're closer to the truth here. Socialism/collectivism can't be achieved and maintained without the initiation of force and violence. And anyone who espouses a socialist goal must inevitably conclude their goals require an initiation of force, particularly against individualists.

Therefore, IMHO, initiation of force and violence results from a natural and required logical consequence of socialist ideology, not from any personality traits. (Though socialism may attract certain controlling-type personality traits.)

Whelp, my post-grad stuff was all about the populist movement overcoming individual wants and needs. Socialism was supposed to sell itself as a logical, organized and efficient way to govern large groups of people. As I recall the study material, anarchy was way, way over there on the right, then totalitarianism was way way over on the left and socialism was in the happy medium. Collectivism and communism made up the left side of the span, and republicanism and individualism made up the right side. But - don't make me draw it out, from 35 years ago, cause I can't.

The ideal Kant, and Hegel, and a few other constructors of the Great Society tell us that socialism is the natural and true design of large bodies of people. Which is likely why it is somewhat popular in major metro centers. They consume greatly, but actually produce very little. If socialism is to work, then I would say a 18 month stint on a farm, ranch or other outdoor facility away from a metro center would be required for anyone under the age of 24. Make it a form of pay forward so that they can understand what it takes to feed, cloth, shelter, water, and waste remove from a metropolis. It would do every kid a world of good to muck out a cow barn, and learn how to make pork ribs, grow beets, milk cows, plant and harvest corn/rice/wheat/sorghum/etc. Then, if they think that socialism is for them, lets go do it right. They have to put in the pot as well, and we'll see how they like real socialism.

This is the test case that everyone is saying will wind up in the supreme's lap.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/harvard-discrimination-trial-reveals-ivy-league-schools-different-sat-standards-for-asian-americans

The defenders from Hahvahd have just bald-faced lie about racial bias in admissions, and the other side has documented it quite well. We will see what kind of strict construction the new court comes up with.

My two cents worth. I can see both sides of this argument. Minorities will not be well represented in schools like Hahvahd if they just go straight off test scores and grades. But - the big rub comes in where we find out who gets to have their hands on the levers of admission, and why it's all done in secret. If they are going to use race, then say they are going to use race publicly. If they are going to score different races on different standards then publish those standards, stand up and admit it and defend it. Why is Hahvahd trying so hard to keep this under wraps? If they aren't doing anything against the law, then tell us your goals, aspirations, and reasoning for using bias to improve the student body mix, and give the disadvantaged a leg up.

On the other hand, I can see an Asian minority wondering why they work so hard, if they have to compete with others on an uneven playing field. It's quite personal to the student when they are not admitted for something they have absolutely no control over. "I'm sorry Kim-Soo, but you are just too smart, successful, honest, healthy, and giving of your time to attend Hahvahd. We are giving a slot to a Eduardo because he's from Colombia, and he's disadvantaged." It would make me furious.

I would agree that when some come out, they really, really come out and can do so in an agressive manner.  But I believe they are in the minority.  Of course, any group will have that sort of overly vocal, overly aggressive minority faction.  Unfortunate, many folks tend to always judge the entire group by that small minority.  That is a large contributor to the pervasive divisiveness that permeates our society.

Well, I'm not sure about the 'small minority' part of your statement, but have no evidence to the contrary. As for being divisive in a society, I would say I'm a big fan of individualism. but - being an iconic member of a small minority doesn't mean I need or will adapt my behavior for the petty dictates of said small minority. If they want to be taken as they are, then I insist on the same respect. I'm here, I'm straight, get over yourself already.

Min qualifications to become a US armed forces pilot: completion of HS with high enough grades to get into univ. Completion of univ degree in one of the sciences(rarely a humanity). Physical qualifications for service in the armed forces. Selection to one of the mililtary flight schools. Successful completion of flight school. Assignment and qualification to a flight squadron.

Min Qualifications to be a mob protester: IQ of approx 70. Loud mouth. Ability to follow simple instructions by an overseer.

As far as advocacy in the Senate goes for either pol side, I would prefer the fighter pilot. I'm sure some would prefer the mob protester.

If I was Trump I'd have my DNA tested in secret. He's likely to be just as much Native Amer as Pocahontas. If he gets the same basic report she got, he can publish that and blow them out of the water.

Haha! Monkey Wards was the enemy at our house. I think my dad bought a edge trimmer from them once and it didn't work right, so he never went back there again. Not long ago I went into a second hand store in another state, and looked at the door handles. I saw the unique font with the "M W" and I knew right away it used to be a Monkey Wards store. In a run down part of town, but was prolly a nice place back in the 70s.

You just don't get it. What's next, if you don't read back a clearance right, 'FAA, why did you fail to read back your clearance?' They already tried that neck size crap with medical. Just put 'safety' in front of any BS regulation and I guess everyone is ok with the anal probe.

Here's the literal quote, including full context of the statement:

"It has nothing to do with nepotism but people who know know that Ivanka would be dynamite. I’d be accused of nepotism even if there’s no one more competent in the world."

It can be found down near the end of the article on Yahoo developed by The Independent(which is nothing like honest independent).

What troubles me more than anything about the Ginsburg controversy is that she decided like many others to risk staying on the bench during the 2016 campaign thinking that Clinton had it locked up and she could retire with the surety that Clinton would elect a far-left Ginsburg 2.0. Once Trump was elected, and before inauguration she KNEW that an interim appt was never, ever going to be allowed to go through. It was a disaster from a political perspective as she now had to wait at least 4 years before a chance to retire with grace and dignity.

To be completely blunt(without wishing ill of her), she should have retired during the Obama admin, and been done with it. But no,,, she stayed on trying to get a woman's election as her siren song. Thankfully, Trump wrecked her grand plan, and has been a hagbag since Nov '16. Her actions have been COMPLETELY partisan since Trump election and it is the saddest commentary on impartial judicial bias since the Hugo Black KKK scandal.

I shared one of the videos on my page and I have not yet seen it show up in the feed.

Were you under the mistaken impression that you controlled your FB content? Surprising, I was certain you were much smarter than that.

I didn't say I had any blame for Ford. I can't say I've seen anyone here blame Ford for her actions. She got dragged into this by all the conniving Dem pols. Congrats to her for overcoming her horrifying experience.

In fact, I find it well - amazing that she was so resilient that only a few days after this so called 'fear for my life' experience, she walked up to one of the guys in the room, and in a congenial way, right in the parking lot of a Safeway store said "hi" to him. She didn't scream, point finger, tell an adult, her parent, a cop, or in any way indicate that the boy had been part of an attack that had tried to rape and kill her.

This is not blame, but - is this account believable? Would a 15YO girl who had been subjected to this violent assault walk up to the attackers best friend and say "hi"?

I also don't blame her for speaking up. But - why not call the authorities? The number for the FBI is well know. If she wanted to press charges, the number for the Potomac police can be found with a 20 second google search. Why speak up, and remain anonymous? Fear of reprisal, or fear of having to defend your accusation? And her defense of her accusation has changed more than 14 times since the letter was offered up. Most of those changes - after the all-star Democratic spin-masters have coached her perfectly. Hmmmmm?

No, I don't blame Ford for her actions. I'm sure she truly believes her drunken, wild-party story. I'm guessing that she has been thinking of it for years, and years, and it is etched in her mind(notwithstanding she is a professional psychology trained PhD). I'm sure something somewhere, sometime happened to her. And she is fixated on Kavanaugh. Her beliefs and her fixation are not useful when it comes to impeaching the next Jurist on the SCOTUS. sorry.

To be honest, I was utterly on the fence about this until I saw the guy in his Senate hearing.  The dude in that hearing has no business being on the Supreme Court.  The dude in that hearing has no business being in a courtroom of any sort.  The dude in that hearing was a whiny little shit who deserved nothing more than to be bitchslapped by a big buxom biker chick wearing a Hillary mask and lots of leather.

Like I said, appoint him.  The Blue Wave could use a good push.

Well, alrighty. I was on the fence at the time he was chosen(way, way before Ford) due to his "baggage"(literal quote). Not knowing that the Dems would have this kind of attack going. Also, I was ready to stick a fork in him when I saw his character on display at the start of his testimony. But then I realized pretty quickly that I was the one being unfair, and biased. That I sat and listened to the accuser, and I commiserated with her, and I thought that she likely was the victim of some kind of teen attack or assault. Notwithstanding, that her character was about as disgusting as I've seen in a 15YO girl. i.e. - way underage drinking, wanting to screw 56 MEN before college, slutty pictures, etc. So - it was hypocritical that I not offer the same hearing, and deliberation to Kavanaugh. I got off to the same kind of start that you are displaying now, after they've both been heard.

Which leads me to assess - that you were never really on the fence. You were willing to hear what he said, but not the content of his testimony, just as you(and I) fully bought into the testimony of Ford. You've been blinded as I was by the weakness and effete behaviors. Would I have been the same, given those circumstance? Would I have been domineering and forceful? Hard to say, I've never been in that kind of position.

If you were, as you say objective at the start, it's a sad thing to say that his demeanor during the testimony has swayed you away from him. Under the typical conditions of a lawyer, or jurist, or judge, where jurisprudence is to be weighed in the absence of passion, I guess I see your point. But - we are NOT talking about his jurisprudence here! We are talking about a personal attack of the most venal kind, filled with personal rancor, passion, rhetoric, argument, invective, and yes - political partisanship designed to use the nastiest form of male denigration short of murder.

In short, I don't like whiny men either. But - if he is guilty of what she said, then the Dems have taken the wrong turn at every step of the way to induce impartial and judicious or objective results. Ford sending her letter to the leading political member of the committee, refusing to be acknowledged, waiting until the end of advise and consent, leaking, assigning highly partisan lawyers to the victim, publishing rumor and hearsay, failure to research, shoddy testimony, and a dozen other ways the left has mucked this up. If you can't see that, and you still have a problem with his emotions on the stand - no one can help you.
