Me too, we had interest rates around that. There seems to be a difference now though. Young people seem unable to afford to buy a house.  But my husband and I could when we were young, even with those interest rates. Is it that the prices are higher than they were back then (adjusted)?  Is it that the young people aren’t earning as much?  Is that because fewer women worked back then? (Dumping women into the workforce created more supply and lowered salaries and wages?)  Or is it because they aren’t marrying and are trying to buy homes by themselves?

There’s a different feel this time around.

I am not claiming this is the primary cause but perhaps it is also contributing. In some sense houses are more sophisticated now and may thus just cost more in real dollars. There is also a lot more regulation and code compliance which likely drives up prices. Many municipalities have actually banned things like the small house movement which was designed to provide more smaller but livable spaces.

lol.  What do I say I am?
If you are talking about me, my politics are a lot like yours.  I'm just not an asshole about it.
It is sort of weird isn’t it? I would have to say I agree with 95+% of Number7’s actual positions. It is as though he has some strange need to antagonize and attack every single poster here. Over the years this has included virtually everyone that I would characterize as being highly liberty oriented.

I don’t think we know enough about him to really say what the cause is. Obviously there are a few brain illnesses that tend to result in this sort of behavior but one can’t diagnose without more information. Perhaps we will be learning more in the future.

I don’t think Little Joe is expecting any special respect due to private aspects which he has not disclosed.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

And Number7 is a coward full of hot air. Anything which vaguely threatens his lord and savior Donald Trump causes him to become irrational and nearly incoherent, lashing out at the speaker.

He resorts to such petty tactics as using diminutives for the other speaker and is constantly engaging in logical fallacies. Perhaps he was flunked out of school so doesn’t know any better. Or perhaps he is impaired in his ability to express himself. He is afraid to tell us who he really is perhaps because he is just a nobody and has never accomplished anything in his life.

Or perhaps he is simply a dying old man who is cranky because he can’t sleep. Who knows?

If it leads to a relatively peaceful breakup of the Federal government, I am all for it.

The vast majority of those people are average citizens who felt the election was mishandled and fraudulent.

I see what you mean. I don't think it is at all right what was done with the vast majority of prosecutions so do not mean to suggest that here.

In terms of comparison to my prior statement I note that they weren't just "speaking out". They were, admirably in my opinion, taking direct concrete action. Unfortunately in the police state we now live in that will sometimes get you in trouble unless you are very careful how you do it.

If they were going to physically try and prevent the certification, I think they just should have planned better.

I suspect as you say most were just average citizens who were misled into thinking they were involved in a peaceful protest. A fair amount of the misleading may have been by government agents. The problem is that in these sort of undercover actions the government agents are allowed to lie and suggest to you that you take an action they regard as illegal to try and trap you. The legal standard is that if they can show you were otherwise "inclined" to take the illegal action, they can prosecute you.

I have been reading through this book over the past month. (It may have been suggested to me by a poster here.)

I find it a very interesting exploration of the evolutionary basis of political behaviors and the preference for freedom.

One quote that struck me today - “Therefore a rational citizen will pay much more attention to deciding what kind of car or breakfast cereal he wants than to who he prefers for President.”

This has always struck me as true and a primary reason to limit the effect which politicians have on our lives.

Example:

“Ideological leftists are evil, cowardly, pathetic scum.”

Me:  - agree!

I guess it depends on one's purpose and audience. If you are speaking to someone you actually believe is a leftist, what purpose is served by making such a statement? OTOH, if one simply wants emotional support for one's beliefs or just likes to raz up the crowd, I guess it makes sense.

I try to look on the bright side. Perhaps this will work out like the election of Lincoln. Some fair fraction of the states won't be able to stomach the elected President and will decide to leave the Federal government. If that can work out without a civil war, it would be a very good thing.

Let the states like CA and NY that clearly no longer want to follow the rules in the Constitution peacefully go their own way.

There are times of violence, a true riot, and times of peacefully just walking around. Out of all those thousands of hours you can pick and choose which snippets to focus on and construct a distorted view of what really happened.

Outside there was more and one reason was because the police were tear gassing and shooting rubber bullets, pissing off the crowd.  Even so, the great majority of people there were non-violent.

Yes, there were some people actually committing violent crimes. But even then the sentences have been over the top.

I don’t think we are going to vote our way out of this folks.

Best I hope for is a relatively peaceful secession or a convention of the states working (which has it’s risks but likely should be tried at this point).

I think one of these happens when the Federal government defaults. I don’t think those people in DC will ever be able to stop spending like drunken sailors.

I hope TX secedes soon as it will encourage other states.

surprising how long the POA thread on Lewiston lasted before being locked...
Remember, discussion of politics is ok there so long as the majority of it agrees with the anti rights woke biases of the moderators.

No, no, and no. They should have realized and accounted for the limitations of their knowledge at the time.
