From what we know, it appears to be a high speed abort.   Someone on the ground saw a puff of smoke from an engine then the TR's deployed.

On a transport jet, take off is predicated on weight, temperature, wind, and runway conditions.  The profile is at V1 the aircraft can be brought to a stop with remaining runway (which includes the over run area).  After V1 the airplane should continue the takeoff, and if it has an engine loss it should clear the runway end at 35 feet for the first segment.

High speed abort is risky.  There are very few items that would predicate a high speed abort.  IOW's, once above 100 knots the crew would have to be certain the aircraft will not fly to abort (control jam, aircraft fire, etc)   Engine failure you are better off to continue the takeoff, get in the air, deal with the emergency and bring it back.

The media is desperate to keep these stories under lid.   They are afraid it will inspire others as well.

More is coming.

If you're too shitty of a pilot to put your own gear down, maybe you shouldn't be starting threads calling other people's errors out. Pot calling the kettle black and all.

Gear ups and other mishaps happen for various reasons.   Are you privy to the details?

It would help me avoid dealing with and paying a d-bag DPE?

Usually just asking around can get someone familiar with a DPE.

Is there an internal FAA system that collects public opinion about ASIs also? :D I would find that incredibly useful also, as a member of the public.

Don't know.  Given that so few people have any actual interactions with FAA ASI's anymore, unless they are on a 135 or a 121 certificate (or Part 145 repair station).

DPE's are appointed by the administrator.  Therefore the administrator must provide oversight of their operations.

I can't see having a DPE public opinion page on the net provided by the FAA as being useful.

I routinely did 300 RVR departures (in a jet).   Once above 80 knots visibility disappears, and rotation is strictly on instruments.

Also above 80 knots we were committed to go.

In a GA airplane, I'm not departing a field I can't make an immediate return to.

Is there a way for the general public to access this information? I haven’t seen it.

 No, it's internal.

Group purchase!  I'm in for $10.

I'll see your ten and raise you $20.

Well, it’s the best we’ve got about DPEs right now.

I understand that there has been a mandate for the FAA to develop a feedback and tracking system. Could be an improvement depending on how it is implemented. But being a government implemented system, I will be somewhat skeptical.

AFAIK, that system is already in place.

OK, so you're a Fed.

 No, I'm a drunk and a gambler.

But back to my question to you that you just avoided.  What's your screen name on PoA?   Or are you putting your hypocrisy on full display?

What do you mean?

Can't figure it out?    So what's your screen name over on PoA?

R&W, I mean "Doc".

It's fun to watch the rumor mill on PoA twist and turn.  Also amusing to watch those who disagree invent creative ways to attack posters (PoA) as a way to justify their views.
