None of the BOR are unlimited. The 2nd is no exception. I can understand the court opening the door to local regulation where 'one size fits all' doesn't work. When I'm up in NM in the back country, There's usually a rifle around, and it's  no big deal. Downtown Detroit would be a bad place to strap on a 30-06 and MAGA hat. I think the court decided to let the states and counties have some modest control.

Where we are going from a nation level is what's concerning. If the SCOTUS is not going to stand and deliver, I'm guessing at some point the legislature is going to find some way to strip it down.

When flying, might want to avoid any kind of faux uniform, epaulets, leather helmet, goggles, bomber jacket, etc.  ;)

Suggest Hawaiian shirt, cargo shorts, sandals and baseball cap.

I've recently had an in-law issue. I know I'm going to make an enemy, even though things are strained right now, but no more phones/PDAs at the dinner table. When I'm alone, or just the wife we often eat with the computer on. But with the rest of the family, I'm going to insist that there be no phones in the room during the meal, and after.

Like I said, parent bastard from hell. having said that, I'm a fey pussy compared to my father, who was WAY worse than I am.

How do y'all feel about Navions tarted up as faux warbirds?

I'm looking to buy a Navion in a few months and I've noticed that a number of them have been painted in military markings.  I've never served in the military, and the particular aircraft has never been in the military.   I can see painting an aircraft to match my service, or having an actual warbird painted in its service colors.  But I see Navions in all sorts of military markings.  I can get past an ugly paintjob, but fake military just doesn't feel right to me.

Get what you want. If it has military paint scheme, it's part of the plane. Don't let the right plane get away just because you are concerned about the paint job. If anyone gives you flack, just tell them you bought it that way, and are collecting donations for a repaint. Guessing they will walk away.

Semantics.  Macron means using people to build national strength.  Trump means making the country strong so people have better lives.

I'm going to go with the guy for whom English is the native language.

Uh, I didn't listen to the speech in the original language, but from what I can gather, you have it just backwards. Macron was triumphing globalism, and universal values, which certainly sounds like the decline of the individual. Trump has worked just the opposite. To remove structure and authority mechanisms from fed control and let the individual determine their nations greatness.

I don't see any relationship in Macron's speech to focus on his people. He's all about the UN, and global vision, etc. People be damned.

I'm the parent bastard from hell. All my kids were barred from most all social media until college. They could join up with thing associated with school or their specific activities. As for peer pressure, social media presence is no different from all the same shit in the last generation. Don't treat it any different. Incorrect clothes, wrong hairstyle, Funky car, bad shoes. Fuckem all.

All of my kids are extremely successful, and well advanced in their field already and they just graduated 4 & 3 years ago. Don't abrogate the parent duties just because of technology and access to a world of info. Make it count.

One more thing, as noted in the vid, parents can be just as bad as kids with getting wrapped up in social media. We NEVER, EVER put out any kind of social media info about our kids, or what they do, or accomplish, or how much better they are than the others. The kids were shown by US how we respected, and appreciated their success, and we commiserated with their failures. My girl said the failures were more instructive about life, and people than the successes.

I don't know about any of them, but leaving a forum is voluntary. The number of people who've been kicked of places for not being liberal enough is much higher.

Merkel doubles down.

https://dailycaller.com/2018/11/13/merkel-macron-european-army-trump/

At the cost of nothing, and the gain of plenty, I'm ready to take my US Army and all our materiel and come home from EU. Let them fight off the bear if they want to get a big head about it.

BTW, I served in NATO, if anyone cares.

Also says globalism of liberal values is worth defending.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it France who has been the most outspoken nationalists since - forever? As I recall me French history, they have fought with EVERYONE in Europe and parts of the African and islands around them. Refused US troops on French soil under NATO command. they also just passed, and Macron signed a very tough new immigration bill: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-43860880  to stem the tide of 'global' people from entering the country.

So, I think what he meant is: Nationalism, and being elite in France is good. Nationalism by the US, Russia, Germany, etc is bad - because, well they are not French.

Macron is a lightweight douche bag.

Congrats!  Maybe I missed it.  What plane are you getting?

Thanks, not a done deal yet. You didn't miss it, I haven't given any details. Aside from saying it has wings, fuselage, and pretty black tires, I will be keeping the details confidential to protect me from those who would/do wish me ill-will.

My blue state just passed an initiative requiring that guns be kept in gun safes when not in use.

Pretty easy to get around this one.  At the time I was arrested, the gun was "in use" in defense of my person/family/property.  Unless the legislation defines "in use" as 'draw, aim, fire or something, anytime it's on my person it is "in use".

Unless/until those laws are broken, challenged, and escalated to SCOTUS, the defendant will LOSE in every case. Heller v DC is the gold standard of defense for the 2nd A and here's a snippet at the end of the ruling: "Nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions on the commercial sale of arms."

So, the SCOTUS just carved out a HUGE loophole in the 2nd A allowing lesser govts to stand with their laws and regulations until each one is tested at the fed level. It's estimated that the cost of the Heller decision was about $3.6 million and it took more than 5 years. The court was divided by 5-4, and could easily have gone the other way. While the current court is in no danger of overturning Heller, the forces of gun control took careful note of the arguments, and the limitations of the ruling. Modern laws on gun control have been carefully designed to work their way around Heller. In the case of WA it sounds exactly like they are 'permitting' the individual to keep and bear, but that the 'bear' is being restricted by the various trigger lock, unloading, locked cabinet, etc.

Each and every one of these cases will have to go through state appeals, then the fed circuit, and finally to the SCOTUS. If you live in a circuit with a liberal court, even if you have the money, it will likely get rejected from cert to SCOTUS, and the circuit court ruling against the defendant will stand.

Sorry.

The wing loading on the T-18 at 'real' gross weights gives me some pause. Same with the hot little Lancair, and to lesser extent the RV family. Of course, the combined wing+power loading is good because most of them are over-powered somewhat, but for my mission, it looks like I'm not going to have fun getting in and out of high, hot, heavy locations with any of the fast 2 place planes.

I showed the little lady an RV-6A locally at a friends place and she said it doesn't hold enough stuff for us. Which is very true, we tend to take the proverbial kitchen sink along when we go somewhere. There are a few EXP planes with bigger baggage holds, but we also want the 4 seats for occasional pax back there. The bigger RV family are just too expensive. If I'm gonna pay 6 bills for a plane, it's gonna have more than the RV-10, maybe a Mooney.

My offer was accepted, we're in the process of insp starting tomorrow. May be a plane owner by this wknd.

Get a Stinson, and call it a day.

They are good flyers and land like a dream. Outstanding design, and I think very good looking. Unfortunately, no matter if one fits 800HP on it, the plane will only go 117MPH in a vertical dive.   :)

Frankly, I find Steingar's posts underwhelming. Too often there is no depth. It's a one or two liner, then the shouting match starts. That's not who I'm talking about. I've seen folks chase off good, moderate and Libertarian-leaning forum participants. Hell, I've seen a couple people go straight to ad hominem attacks against regular participants who are CLEARLY extremely conservative, just because they had the audacity to think outside the right-wing box for a moment.

Hehe, heh - no prob. I can take. Once in a while it feels good to have someone use some choice words for opinions that are not all neo-con all the time. Becky is frustrated, and rightly so. We have had a remarkable couple of years, and it is quite frustrating to see all the gains go to waste with a mid-term election where the forces of actual evil are not being kept at bay.
