In an attempt to get away from the Orange One and the Doormat...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-10/brexit-poll-shows-leave-in-10-point-lead-two-weeks-before-vote

A poll of 2,000 voters shows a 55/45 in favour (and as we're discussing the UK, I insist on proper English spelling in this thread!) of leaving the EU.

Where do you guys stand on this issue?  Should the UK withdraw from the European Union, or remain in?

It t was summer, and a major U.S. political party had just chosen an inexperienced, unqualified, loutish, wealthy outsider with ambiguous party loyalties to be its presidential nominee. Some party luminaries thought he would help them win the general election. But many of the faithful were furious and mystified: How could their party compromise its ideals to such a degree?

Dear God, as in all things, The Simpsons prophesied the rise of Donald Trump.

The year was 1995.  The Season was 6, the Episode 12, called "Homer the Great", or colloquially as "The Stonecutter Episode"

Homer served in the role of Trump in this episode.  After a lifetime outside, he begged for membership in the Stonecutters.  He was finally, thanks to inheritance from his father, admitted to membership in the Stonecutters.

After his baffling and boorish behaviour (including using the Sacred Parchment - Stonecutters version of the Constitution) leads to him being banished from the Stonecutters by the members ("The Establishment"), the head of the local chapter (Number 1, Reince Preibus) notices that Home has "The Mark", a special signifier that makes him "The Chosen One", a long awaited leader, and he is installed as the head of the Stonecutters (nominee of the Republican Party).

He leads the Stonecutters (Republicans) to distinctly non-Stonecutter places, becoming mad with power, banishing those who (Lisa) disagree with him, whereupon, the local membership consults the Stonecutter world council (including George H.W. Bush) about whether they can kill him.

Number 1:  "We need to face the bitter truth, as long as we're Stonecutters, he will control our lives."
Moe (#NeverTrump):  "Maybe, but maybe we don't want to be Stonecutters no more"
Number 1:  "Welcome to the first meeting of the Ancient and Mystic Society of NoHomers"

A Maryland judge acquitted Baltimore police Officer Edward Nero of all charges Monday in the controversial death of Freddie Gray more than a year ago.

Gray's death touched off sometimes violent protests in the city and reignited Black Lives Matter demonstrations across the nation. Nero was the second officer to face trial, although the first case ended in a hung jury.

Spin Zone / Talk about a Bench-Slap
« on: May 20, 2016, 06:36:31 AM »
For those not familiar with the term...a bench slap is when a judge goes off on lawyers in their court in a particularly eloquent way.

The case in question is the DACA injunction lawsuit in Texas, where Texas and 25 other states have sued the Feds to stop the implementation of Obama's executive amnesty

This Court has found no authority to support the concept that it is ever ethical and appropriate conduct to mislead a court and opposing counsel; nor has the Government provided any authority to that effect. That being the case, the Court finds no need for a comprehensive dissertation on the duty of candor and honesty because counsel in this case failed miserably at both. The Government’s lawyers in this case clearly violated their ethical duties.
...
The misconduct in this case was intentional, serious and material. In fact, it is hard to imagine a more serious, more calculated plan of unethical conduct. There were over 100,000 instances of conduct contrary to counsel’s representations; such a sizable omission cannot be classified as immaterial.
...
Therefore, this Court, in an effort to ensure that all Justice Department attorneys who appear in the courts of the Plaintiff States that have been harmed by this misconduct are aware of and comply with their ethical duties, hereby orders that any attorney employed at the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. who appears, or seeks to appear, in a court (state or federal) in any of the 26 Plaintiff States annually attend a legal ethics course.

Clinton's server guy who set up and configured her bathroom e-mail server has mysteriously had his emails disappear from State shortly after a judge said that State had to turn them over.

As part of it's philanthropic work, the Clinton foundation released the results of it's study on the causes of hard drive failures in the government:
