Mercenary fighting for the Russians has a different view:

Assuming we can believe what’s posted on Chinese social media; in this case I think we can.

Russia is running low on men, if hiring myriad of mercenaries is any indication. He paints a clear picture of the disadvantages (language barriers, no “brothers in arms” cohesion).

But these are not necessarily indicative of Russia losing the war. China has millions it can send to help and Russia has closed the borders to stop its own young men from fleeing.

Someone not me who has been in actual combat tell me if this is true:  Drones are a game changer.  I’ve seen camera footage from drones as they detect men or tanks, target and kill.  Death from a soulless robot from above.   Small and agile, unlike manned aircraft, harder to target with anti-aircraft weapons before it drops its load or suicides into you?  And cheap as hell compared to other means of aerial attack.  The technology will probably rapidly get better to make them even more deadly.

Russia isn’t going to be defeated. Nor will she just stop. As long as the U.S. pumps resources into Ukraine this will go on indefinitely.  Yes Russia has a manpower problem but so does Ukraine. Both sides will send men to die until none are left, then they’ll keep paying ever more mercenaries or worse, get their allies directly involved: Russia-China vs Ukraine-USA/NATO. Great.

We need Trump in office to tell these two to knock it off.

oh good grief.

f'n brilliant military strategy - preventing troops from firing for fear of provoking...

Did people learn nothing from Vietnam and Korea?

Once again you missed the point Bob.   If the Ukrainians want to wage a war with Russia, be my guest.  But what in the fuck are we (US) getting involved, and more over, why in the fuck are we funding one of the most corrupt governments in the world while they wage this war?

Oh, wait a minute “If we don’t defeat Russia there, we’ll have to fight them here!”   Or here’s another one “We want to save Ukraines democracy!”   HA!

We didn’t learn a fucking thing from VN, Afghanistan, Iraq and countless other “police actions” around the world.

And now the dictator wants to fire US produced missiles into Russia.   This of course would escalate and more than likely kick off WW3.

But still, a complete Russian victory over there will be far worse than us supporting Ukraine.

Why?

At least that is what Putin wants us to think, but the last thing he wants is all out war with the West.  And the cowardly west is buying it.

Of course he doesn't want war with NATO or the west.  But we have our SoS Blinken trying to push him into escalating.  Plus the regime in Washington has tried to stop or delay peace talks.   War is big business.

The jury is still out on that.  The delay by the Republican party has greatly reduced the chances of us getting anything out of it.

The Ukrainians will never "win" no matter how much money we pump into it.   Ukraine is another VN and Afghanistan rolled into one.

Your dictator buddy wants longer range missiles to hit Russian assets within Russia, not just Russian held territories.. This will lead to escalation.

You may want to ask yourself what we as the US has gotten out of dumping $200 billion into this shithole.

U.S. produced munitions have been fired into Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, all claimed by Russia as Russian territory as of 2022. Likewise into Crimea, which Russia declared as their territory back in 2014.

According to Putin and Kremlin "red line" warnings we should have kicked off WW3 by now. You might ask yourself what Putin or the power elites in the Kremlin have to gain by escalating to a world war versus what they have to lose.

Since Ukraine is already launching drones successfully toward distant targets deep inside Russia it isn't going to make a bit of difference if some munitions are now U.S. made.

Those drones don't do much damage.   A US made medium range warhead can.
