Many places won't reinstate mask requirements until they think the remaining unvaccinated people will never get vaccinated.

Part of the carrot for vaccinations is losing the face diaper.

Take that out of the equation and it's likely the rate of vaccination will not reach the desired level.

Spin Zone / Vax "hesitancy"
« on: July 18, 2021, 05:57:53 AM »
An opinion piece in the local newspaper claims that lack of total approval of vaccines creates hesitancy.

Apparently some people just aren't listening to those that haven't been vaccinated yet and who might never agree to get the shot(s).

Sure, some are probably waiting for full approval (let Mikey try it first...), but lack of honesty and the outright lies have sown distrust of those claiming that the vaccines are completely safe and effective.

Unfortunately, I don't have any magic to overcome this.  But, certainly one necessary step would be for those claiming to be leaders to establish credibility.

Spin Zone / Sales Tax holiday in Taxachusetts
« on: June 24, 2021, 06:54:23 AM »
In recent years, Taxachusetts has had a sales tax holiday weekend in August.  Stores get *very* busy that weekend.  In the days leading up to that weekend, some stores even setup paperwork for the sale to occur that weekend.

The Taxachusetts Gov (Baker) has proposed an expansion of that sales tax holiday... to the entire months of August and September.

A proposal that is likely doomed to fail in the heavily liberal legislature, but I like the in-your-face proposal.

Part of Gov Baker's reason for the proposal is that tax revenues are several billion higher than projected for the year closing 30 June.  This comes at a time when the usual liberal push for higher tax rates on millionaires has put a petition on the ballot (or at least are pushing very very hard for it).

Kind of a neat two-for-one on the part of the Governor...

Spin Zone / disenfranchising

If requiring eligible voters to show an ID is disenfranchising voters...

Why is having a driver's license not disenfranchising people?

Why is requiring an ID to board an airline flight not disenfranchising people?

Why is requiring an ID to enter a DNC campaign event not disenfranchising people?

Why is requiring an ID to open a bank account not disenfranchising people?

So screams the headline in the 30 May Boston Globe

Cue the fearmongers...

Watertown MA is going to vote on paving over a field dedicated to the memory of a fallen Marine.

It's going to be paved over for a parking lot for a temporary high school.

oh, not to worry, Watertown will restore the field after the new high school is completed.  Did I ever tell you about "trust me"?

Spin Zone / Referencing PilotSpin is not permitted
« on: May 27, 2021, 07:40:49 AM »
Just got an alert over on POA that one of my posts was deleted because I referenced PilotSpin

I don't quite remember how I put it in the post I made.  A number of times I've used "forum That Shall Not Be Named"

my words, the POA MC is worthless.

Posters can tell people to perform unnatural acts, but don't mention PilotSpin.

Spin Zone / now the complaint is the CDC was too quick
« on: May 21, 2021, 09:25:53 AM »
I read an op-ed piece in today's paper where the writer complained that the CDC new protocol (wrt being vaccinated and what we can now do) was too sudden... one week we have to wear masks and "suddenly" we don't

seriously?

Are we supposed to take this more slowly?  does the CDC need to gives us a warning that something might change?  two week notice?  how long?

good grief

Spin Zone / all that money spent on ads...
« on: May 20, 2021, 05:53:05 PM »
Just a wild thought.... think of all that money spent on advertisements featuring actors wearing masks.  and now they'll have to lose the masks.

or will they?

Spin Zone / The Count - for bflynn
« on: May 13, 2021, 06:55:22 AM »
What’s the Republicans’ most hated Sesame Street character?
The Count

It could be taken several ways.

One would be that Republicans hate/fear the actual "count" that was done in 2020.

Or, some never-trumpers hate having an actual count of valid votes.

Actually, I would have posted that the dims fear The Count.
