Finally got a chance to watch the entire debate.  I found it embarrassing that everyone, with the exception of Carson, allowed themselves to be goaded into the personal attacks by the moderators.  Seeing that CBS is a main stream outlet and pulls from a larger overall audience, I suspect that many folks were turned off by the whole debate.  In my opinion Carson was the only adult on the stage.

The point is, why tax businesses at all?  It just gets passed right on to the consumer.

Was he talking about Corporate income tax?  If so it now varies from 15% all the way up to a whopping 39%.  So a flat 16% wouldn't be out of line.

From Cruz's website:

Quote
BUSINESS FLAT TAX – SINGLE RATE: 16%
The corporate income tax along with the payroll tax are abolished, replaced by a 16% Business Flat Tax.

  • The current corporate tax code is riddled with years of accumulated loopholes and special favors, burdening U.S. businesses with the highest top tax rate among the advanced nations. This convoluted and anti-competitive structure will be replaced with a simple 16% tax on net business sales (gross sales minus expenses and capital expenditures).
  • The current payroll tax discourages work and job creation. The vast majority of Americans pay more in payroll tax than in income tax. The Simple Flat Tax will eliminate the payroll tax, boosting jobs and wages for working Americans, while guaranteeing funding for Social Security and Medicare.

So Cruz says, "16% tax on business"  Is there not a politician alive that understands that a tax like that gets passed right to the consumer.  Jackasses.   ::)

It's fun to watch Bernie doing so well, getting all excited yet being trounced in the delegate count due to the DNC's super delegate deal.

A very intriguing Federal Security Services (FSB) report prepared for The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (SLEDKOM) relating to the trial of Ukrainian “spy/terrorist” Nadiya (Nadezhda) Savchenko states that “beyond top secret” emails obtained from a “private computer storage device” belonging to former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “should/must” be allowed into the sentencing phase of this case due not only to their “critical relevance”, but, also, because the “apprehension” of them falls outside the purview of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

Yes.  and the income tax, as originally passed was to be applied only to millionaires, and only at 1%.

And social security was 1%.  And toll road tolls were supposed to be phased out once the road was paid for.

Once a tax and the collection mechanism are in place, it grows like a cancer.  Show me something where that has not happened.

Not that I disagree entirely but we had the toll booths torn down on a section of highway here in the Atlanta area.  It was done by a Republican governor and Republican legislature.

This race could get really interesting. I can see both Sanders and Trump, after getting dumped by the respective Dem and Rep kingmakers, going into the general as independents. A four way election. Who would win? Would the Republican nominee stand a chance?

You left out Bloomberg

Spin Zone / Re: EAA Changes to Young Eagles Program
« on: February 08, 2016, 01:05:14 PM »
This whole debate is utterly laughable.  Sorry, parents will entrust the very lives of their children to complete strangers but they're worried about molestation?  Moreover, how am I supposed to molest anyone with my hands full of airplane?

I am done with Young Eagles.  Moreover, only an idiot would claim that the Young Eagles program is stemming the tide of the declining pilot population without some sort of metric to show that the Young Eagles program is indeed stemming said tide, and I have yet to see any kind of metric.  Moreover, the lack of said metric is telling, the YE program has been running long enough and has flow enough youngsters that quantitative assessment is quite possible.  If such was done and the results positive I'm certain the EAA would very loudly and very publicly declare victory.

Personally, I thin it is up to the Chapter to get folks to go further.  The EAA has Sporty's backing the ground school for those 14 and older.  If a chapter just flies the kids and that's it, we won't groom any new pilots.  I've got half a dozen in ground school right now and 6-10 working on our Ultra-Lite Pietenpol every Saturday.  It takes a bit of work to get there.

I hate to think how much the cost of college will increase when it is "free".

It will increase to whatever the government decrees it is willing to pay out.

I challenge anyone to point out where I said that.

See:  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

Certainly easier to argue against an extreme position than the position  that was actually put forth.

No one said that you said that.  Your tacit support of free college though would indicate support for all the things likely to accompany that as I mentioned in the OP.  Do you have counter indications that those things would not happen?

We currently find a way to guarantee the first 12 years of education to all American children.

And I'd say that does not need to be an effective ceiling to what we offer.

Would an initial increase to 14 years, to include Community College, be that radical a suggestion? Then see how that works before extending it to 16 with certain limitations.

Not saying I favor it, but neither am I dismissing it out of hand.

So you are saying that you're okay with the government having control of college education and picking winners and losers there as they do in other areas they control?
